Nikosn17 Posted June 19, 2009 at 04:13 PM Posted June 19, 2009 at 04:13 PM I agree the winner is: Universal Music Group. Maybe they planned all these. and this too: Can Mariah Carey finally win top Grammy Awards?Mariah Carey goes on the offensive in her new single – "Obsessed" – taking on Eminem among others. The track is the first off of her album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" due out Aug. 25. That release date means this 12th studio album by Mariah Carey just makes the new Aug. 31 cut-off for Grammy Awards eligibility. What ? Quote
LuisMa Posted June 19, 2009 at 04:18 PM Posted June 19, 2009 at 04:18 PM I don't think they really care about the cut-off date for the Grammys. In any artist's case, if the album is tremendously good, it doesn't matter whether you release it within this year's eligibility period or the next, because it can still receive a nomination. Quote
LuisMa Posted June 19, 2009 at 05:03 PM Posted June 19, 2009 at 05:03 PM Mariah on Chart Beat CAN'T SPELL MARY J. BLIGE WITHOUT 'R' AND 'B': The format cornerstone charts her 57th entry on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as "The One" opens at No. 60. Blige arrived with the eventual No. 1 "You Remind Me" on the May 2, 1992, chart. Blige's sum extends her lead for most charted titles among women in the '90s and '00s. In second place is Mariah Carey with 47 entries, although that total should increase next week. "Obsessed," the first single from Carey's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," due Aug. 25, looks likely to roar onto next week's chart following its release to radio Tuesday (June 17). Nikosn17 Posted June 20, 2009 at 06:27 AM Posted June 20, 2009 at 06:27 AM (edited) Song of the Summer: Mariah Carey DominatesIt's late, the weather's nice (for the moment), and we've got big news so we're just gonna lay it on you: Mariah Carey has snatched the No. 1 Song of the Summer spot from the Black Eyed Peas, whose "Boom Boom Pow" is officially overplayed out – and faces an enemy from within: "I Gotta Feeling," by the Black Eyed Peas. Elsewhere, Cobra Starship and the Gossip burst the bounds of their respective genres to offer straight-up summer hotness, and Sean Kingston has us so ready to dance in front of the AC in our unmentionables. Whether or not it's about Eminem, as some maintain (and the lyrics don't say Marshall Mathers to us – more like Stan), Mariah Carey's "Obsessed" contains one of the all-time great put-downs: "You're a mom-and-pop, I'm a corporation." (And you know Wal-Mart haters are turned on.) If nothing else, Mariah's an institution: Second only to the Beatles in No. 1 singles, she's the closest thing this summer has to a dominant (pun intended) diva – Keri Hilson's gonna touch her? Fergie? And, like the best summer tracks, this song's a shape-shifter: it's a slow jam, but with Gucci Mane on the remix; it's sexy, but a dis track; it's dark, but you'll sing along. Spin us right round, Mariah, and feel free to do so all summer. 1. Mariah Carey, "Obsessed": Congratulations to Mariah on the Power Rankings' first-ever No. 1 debut. On a side note, another notch in Mariah's impressive SOTS CV are her gritty choices in remix partners: following in the footsteps of O.D.B. and Jadakiss come Gucci Mane and the official "Obsessed" remix.Source: New York Magazine Movie Review: TennesseeTennessee (Vivendi Ent.)By Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel Movie Critic2 out of 5 stars Tennessee, a formulaic indie road drama, plays like a prospectus for an indie film. New Mexico has filmmaker incentives, so we'll shoot a lot of it there. Find a pop star willing to work cheap as she takes another stab at a film career. Those two elements secure your funding. Now try and write a movie around them. This isn't really Mariah Carey's movie, and she doesn't take the chances here that she does in the acclaimed Sundance drama Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. But she has a knack for playing beaten down and a way with a world-weary line. "A good day?" she's asked. "I can't even tell any more," she drawls in a way any waitress will recognize. Her willingness to trek to Tennessee (and New Mexico) shows her to be indie-friendly, which means this movie may do things for her movie career even if virtually nobody sees it or buys the soundtrack. Tennessee is currently playing in limited theaters.Source: Orlando Sentinel For the third day in a row, Mariah Carey’s new single “Obsessed” won the days song battle with over 85% of the votes on The Hot 30 Countdown in Australia. They'll repress the downloads on iTunes for a few weeks until the airplay is at its peak. And then she'll have a huge first week downloads and if the airplay is strong enough it'll hit #1 but I guess for a week or 2. I can't believe how successful are BEP now. Quote

LuisMa Posted June 22, 2009 at 12:04 PM Posted June 22, 2009 at 12:04 PM ^ Probably around 1,5 M. With 3 days left to remove recurrents, this is how "Obsessed" is doing on Hot 100 airplay. No. 148 - Mariah Carey (+6.3 million) Though it's gaining a lot, I believe TMB had already cracked the top 100 in spins by the same time it was released last year. Quote

Nikosn17 Posted June 22, 2009 at 08:12 PM Posted June 22, 2009 at 08:12 PM Yeah me too. But now Mariah's fans have to worry about BEP and the possibility of them breaking Mariah's record for most weeks at #1... Quote
LuisMa Posted June 22, 2009 at 08:43 PM Posted June 22, 2009 at 08:43 PM (edited) I think BEP could have momentum enough to grab the number one spot two more weeks after this one, so they would be at 14, but 16 is a bit hard, as "Boom Boom Pow" is falling rapidly on CHR and Rhythmic, and Urban did not add it. So now number 1 will depend on how stable their sales become and if their loss in airplay is not taken by any of the other growing tracks. Of all the songs now on the chart, the closest competitors are Keri Hilson or GaGa, but they are still trailing by quite some chart points. Edited June 22, 2009 at 08:45 PM by LuisMa Quote
LuisMa Posted June 23, 2009 at 09:31 AM Posted June 23, 2009 at 09:31 AM Drake is hot on Urban and Rhythmic, but not so hot on Pop (not even Top 40 Airplay). The song was not made available on Tuesday, so it lacks the sales from that day. Also, for the past couple of days it has lost sales on iTunes and is currently trailing both BEP songs. I think it will move up to number 3 this week, but it'll start to falter next week. Though I hate the song, I was hoping it would claim number 1, but not even "I Gotta Feeling" will... yet. "I Gotta Feeling" could be a serious competitor for number 1 in the following weeks, as its airplay is zooming. Quote
Nikosn17 Posted June 23, 2009 at 10:12 AM Posted June 23, 2009 at 10:12 AM damn... it will be really sad if this awful song breaks the record. It may not break OSD's record but I think it's gonna break WBT's record for most weeks at #1 this decade Quote
LuisMa Posted June 24, 2009 at 05:53 PM Posted June 24, 2009 at 05:53 PM "Obsessed" has currently 9 million + of audience. By contrast, TMB had 40 million + its first days of airplay. Quote
LuisMa Posted June 24, 2009 at 06:34 PM Posted June 24, 2009 at 06:34 PM On this week's Hot 100 Airplay: No. 154 - Mariah Carey (+8.5 million) And this week's Hot Digital sales: 1 1 BLACK EYED PEAS I GOTTA FEELING 232264 -7 249133 4813972 2 BLACK EYED PEAS BOOM BOOM POW 183227 -15 215886 2985513-- 3 DRAKE BEST I EVER HAD 152549 999 63 202729 That means "Boom Boom Pow" will comfortably spend a 12th week atop the Hot 100. This is the first week that they've missed the 200000 copies-sold mark, but 183000 is pretty impressive. Drake did not have steam enough to race to number one. Quote
