thank you very much for this great write up! The world was really hungry for more Céline in 2002!! The album was still such a success a year after its release. And that's also due to the fact that Céline promoted the hell out of it! You cannot help but wonder what would have happened if she didn't have the Vegas deal... I am sure her path on radio play etc. would have been much different!

 

As you said it's a shame I Surrender was never released as a single. I think it could have been huge too. And as pretty as GTSW is as a song, IMO it should have never been a single. I would have gone with:

 

1. A New Day Has Come

2. I'm Alive

3. I Surrender (to remind people she's still the ballad queen)

4. When The Wrong One Loves You Right (ft. Destiny's Child)

5. Sorry For Love (with awesome remixes)

6. Have You Ever Been In Love (a nice last single, that could have been a Céline classic)

Yeah, that's probably their plan. I just fear that by that time people might not care about Celine anymore, because the world will be totally different, and we will be much older and have other priorities than waiting for Celine Dion material.

 

I think the problem with team Celine and Sony is that they think that the interest in Celine will last forever and grow stronger. However, I think the opposite might be the case. Remember when Celine was in her prime releasing 2 albums a year and performing in Vegas while doing a lot of promo? During that time people did not have a very positive attitude towards her. She was mocked and criticized quite a lot. Only after Rene passed, people started to have a lot of sympathy for her. But I don't know if she can ride that wave forever, especially if she disspears completely and doesn't even reach out to the people, let alone her fans, which she obviously forgot about a long time ago.

I am so happy they released this. Yes we have it already but new fans may not have seen this. It’s good to have it officially on her channels.

 

I too would like something new but that is always going to be the case with us fans. Let’s see. They did surprise us with IACBTMN making of last year!

From 2002- until “A New Day…” wrapped in 2007 was all pretty epic.

They lost me with the “Taking Chances” album it was a big let down in my opinion lol.

Absolutely not! Loved that album and she tried so many different things. The world tour after was also epic.

“Taking chances” album was for me one of her worst albums. Of course there were a couple exceptions, but as a whole.. . Was a let down FOR ME, I only speak for me.

 

Slightly off topic, but for me her three worst albums are…

 

Miracle, Taking Chances, and Loved Me Back To Life.

I think “Courage” tho not my favorite album was finally a step in right direction again for a English album. But Sony and Celine killed that.

I think I was barely starting to become a fan then, so I didn't have expectations of the album. But I think it is a really good effort personally -- similarly to how you feel about Courage, I feel that was a step in the right direction for Celine musically.

I’m still hoping for another smooth, fluid voiced classic Celine Dion album in English. A new duet or two, a couple uptempo songs, some dramatic power ballads, and I’d also love a couple jazzy songs. Bring back David Foster and Diane Warren for a few songs. Include a French song.

 

If I were on Celine’s team, I’d remind her that the “coolest” thing she can do is to stay true to herself and release a CELINE DION album… not an album full of Sia / Adele / LP songs.

 

She sounded so beautiful on Ashes. I’d love more new songs like that, where she sounds like her beautiful self.

 

With that said, I think Celine felt like she wanted to fulfill Rene’s dream and expectations of perfection for so long that now she finally wants to do what she wants to do in the studio. Let go of perfection and just let loose.

 

For me, she’s yet to release a proper follow up in English to A New Day Has Come. Even though I do like many of the songs on her albums since then.

I think if she had released an entire album written by LP, then we would probably have her best album since ANDHC. The Sia and Adele discography are not the way to go...especially if those writers are giving them their second-rate material. New songs please, not covers.

 

And Dianne Warren's best songs may have been behind her. Unfinished Songs was great, Superwoman not so much.

The rumor is only the opening and closing tracks, “I Drove All Night” and “Jetaime Encore” were recorded for the album and the rest were songs intended for ANDHC album that weren’t included? Anyone have details?

 

If true it makes sense why love both albums, probably my favorite two albums.

The other songs were from the ANDHC recording session 2001-2002

I Drove All Night, Je T'Aime Encore new songs from 2003
