I can't believe this album is 10 years old! I remember getting it like yesterday!! Till this date the album still sounds fresh and young

 

When ANDHC was released, it all looked so promising! Céline was charting with ANDHC and IA! And She was all over the place!!

 

So sad that GTSW and Vegas threw that all away

Oh yes, it looks like it´s start of next great decade for Céline in music industry, but one year later everything changed.

That's probably true, this album marked an inflexion point in her career, she came from the top of her career and this album just confirmed how versatile she could be, to still be doing great ballads but at the same time she had the renewed image of a fresh singer who could adapt her voice and style to all the genres.

 

Unfortunately this slowly began to change in 2003 (thanks to Las Vegas contract ). I don't know if she will ever care to come back with an album like A New Day Has Come or will be covering old songs for the rest of her career

I remember playing A New Day Has Come over and over and over again this time 10 years ago. I Surrender was such a jaw dropping vocal tour de force. I'm Alive was so new and up-beat. Sorry For Love was a killer dance floor anthem in the waiting. Almost every track was excellent and there were so many great singles waiting to be released after A New Day Has Come and I'm Alive. It was a great time.

And then....... Thud!

 

It's a terrible irony that an album as great as A New Day Has Come has to be blighted by being associated with that "chart career killing single"

yeah... unfortunately that's the way it went down! Any other possible single: RIFOY, HYEBIL, IS, SFL, WTWOLYW would have done nothing but good.... but GTSW was ironiaclly the saddest single...

 

Looking back they should have rereleased ANDHC with a bonus disc of 5 to 10 new songs... but that alone wouldn't have been enough.... the singles needed good videos and a performance here and there. AND... didn't give any room for that

Yeah... the only positive thing I can think they brought with chosing GTSW as a single is that they did a great video for the song, with a sexy Céline that we can rarely see in other videos. And they also released another unseen-before photo as the cover for the single (keeping in mind that the album barely had original photos from the photoshoot because they were replaced inundating the booklet with RC pics ).

 

And also we got a new song as b-side (All Because Of You).

 

Not too bad after all, the song wasn't the best choice but the single had some extra goodies that we would die to get today from her (one unreleased song and an unreleased photo?)

You know, regardless of the success of Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love, in many ways I regard A New Day Has Come as the album that defines Celine.

 

She came back to the scene and it was her first full length English album since 1997 and it would've been so easy to carry on where they left off and got the old gang back together - David Foster, Diane Warren etc - but they decided to go in a different direction and it so payed off. Those 2 years completely away from music completely benefited her entire team. I remember Sony marketing Taking Chances with "the new English album everyone is talking about", well I would argue they should've used that line for "A New Day Has Come" - the album is that good!

 

I don't think it's any coincidence the that this album debuted at number 1 in over 20 countries as it was very relevant at the time, Celine looked fresh and sounded great. The singles choices to launch the album were 100% correct and on Celine's promotional tour of the world she performed her new material and forgot about her old stuff which is exactly the thing to do when launching any new album. We've covered the horrendous decision to release Goodbyes The Saddest Word before but by that time Celine was caught up in Vegas rehearsals anyway so the promotion for the album was likely over.

 

The biggest tragedy about the album is that after only 10 years it doesn't live on in Celine's live concert set list. There isn't a single song from A New Day Has Come that makes her Vegas show that reminds people of this album, not a single song who might leave the Vegas show and think "Oh I must get hold of that album." Hopefully in shows, and tours, to come the album will be re-visited as there really are some classics which should be given the chance to be performed especially with the backing of a full orchestra. Imagine "Prayer" or "The Greatest Reward" given the orchestral treatment and how much would we all love a performance of the radio remix version of "A New Day Has Come" on the next tour, regardless if she forgets the lyrics or not.

IMO The Greatest Reward would be a perfect opener to the current show....

 

It was too bad ANDHC radio mix didn't survive the hickup during the TC tour, but I am glad that IA is gone (for) now.

I don't even want to remember how Shania's "Up!" album, released some months later in november, had up to 8 (EIGHT) singles and the album's commercial life run through 2004, while Céline's ANDHC...

You know, if I'd been in their shoes, I would have never released One Heart in the way they conceived it, as a "new album", and instead I would have released a new 2 CD edition of ANDHC in 2003 with all the new songs included in One Heart. Of course I would have never released the pathetic "special edition" of ANDHC in november (who on Earth had the idea of including the 2 new songs in a DVD to watch on TV?¿?¿? ).

 

So for what they did with OH and the special edition of ANDHC, they'd have better saved them and release a 2CD edition of ANDHC with all the new songs and continue the promotion of the album, which was #1 in around 20 countries by the way

 

But... One Heart opened the age of nosense in Céline's discography and promotion career-_-

That's no excuse. One Heart video took less than 1 day of Céline's time and it's greater than IDAN, which was the first single of One Heart for example.

 

I'm afraid we're talking of a different problem here, and we know it. If they want to deliver a decent promotion out of an album, they'll do it. And if they want to do 4 videos instead of 1, they'll do them too. It's not even a matter of money today, we've had enough examples of how a simple videoclip can reach everybody with only a choreography on the screen (Beyoncé), so she has no excuse. They've been just lazy and don't give a damn about releasing singles or videoclips, that's all

The video was great for GTSW, but it didn't really fit the song properly at all. Mind you the I can't think what video could fit that depressing "my mother has only a short time to live" song. Happy Mother's Day my arse!

 

I guess back in 2002, releasing special editions with a full bonus CD was a pretty unusual concept. But yes, youre so right Jav. It would have been a lot better than the bizarre CD Rom thing we got instead.

 

I think RIFOY would have been a great single. It's got some great Celine-isms running through it. And I love that ending. Think I will watch the TV special tonight. Haven't seen in a long time.

One of the things I still don't understand about the promotion of this album is why she sang all the songs 100% live on La Fureur de Céline and then lipped to Right In Front Of You. Why??

I think Céline doesn't feel comfortable singing upbeat songs in English. Live versions of English upbeat songs are usually in lower key and a bit slowed down. In a special like that, they want to show of the songs most closely to the album versions. That's why she lipped it IMO.

Really like your idea of TGR on the current show, specially with the acapella beginning. About the uptempo songs not live, then what about GTSW?

I have to disagree in regards to Celine not being happy singing upbeat songs in English... as she seem to idolize 'LCMM''.... and has fcuking more than murdered it!!! As over recent years, shes screamed it, made up her own words to it, forgot the words to it, and added random noises and stupid hand gestures to it! She needs to retire this crap song once and for all, and perform other uptempos of hers, or have brand new uptempos to perform... because this song is neither popular, or a classic, its a become a headache, so lets evolve it ''finally''....

Darren! Stop dissing LCMM. It wouldn't be a Celine concert without it. It's a Celine tradition and it's going nowhere. Deal with it bucko!!

 

But even though I will miss it if and when it does go, I would like to see some other uptemp songs get a look in during the next tour. ANDHC had plenty of candidates to fill its shoes. Let's hope Celine is aware it's 10 years old and is playing it a bit this week. She may get inspired.

I didn't say UNHAPPY, i said UNCOMFORTABLE!

 

In French she doesn't have problems: Prière Païenne, JIOTI etc... But in English the songs are either slower and lower key and or very shortened: TTWII, ANDHC RM, SOL, FA...

 

I think she's afraid to keep up with the pase of the song and messing up the lyrics, so that IMO results in fast uptempo songs in either being lipped or slowed down.

Yeah I have to admit I do like LCMM being part of a Celine concert too. It's the most "fun" upbeat song she sings live.

 

Back to ANDHC, another thing I found bizarre about the re-release was the strange white out cover design they decided to go for.

I can't believe it's been 10 years. Just to celebrate its anniversary I've decided to listen to it, I honestly haven't listening to it FOR AGES. I have most of Celine's albums on my laptop, but some reasons, I don't have this one.

And I had forgotten how much I LOVED that album! I remember being so excited that she was back! I hadn't listened to her for a long time, I had taken a break while she did haha and my musical tastes had changed, but she remained, amongst the novelties.

 

Right now, it's Right In Front Of Me, I'm nearly crying. I can't believe I had forgotten what an incredible album it is! What a pleasure for my ears! That's the Celine I miss. I don't need big hits like in the 1990's, I don't care about them, I just need music that Celine believes in, and I do believe she believed in that album.

Nope. Not 1. Another upbeat in addition to LCMM is a different story, that I'd be very happy with. They could even replace RDMH now. But not LCMM. I could cope if they decided to cut it down to only a few bars, but to completely remove it would be a very sad day in Celine history.

I've had that song in my head for ages now RIFOY was asking to be a radio single SO bad! Same as WTWOLYR She could have done some very nice & fresh videos with these songs.

I noticed that yesterday when I was checking my different editions of the album. Indeed, that's the Epic UK edition, it's almost impossible to figure out how the cover looks in that white slipcase But the Columbia edition released in France had the cover slightly different, is like "silvered" and you can notice the photo much better:

And then you have other editions such as those from Asia and Korea which released the slipcase in full colour as it should be (much nicer)

I was listening to the ''A New Has Come'' album yesterday and I was like : ''Oh god! This album sounds so outdated''. Then I had the same reaction when I listened to Kylie Minogue's ''Fever''. These albums were great when they came out but they lost all their freshness afterward and this is the main problem with most of those popish albums from the early 00's.
