DuonganhCDF Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:38 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:38 PM I've wasted my day waiting for the first day sales. I dont need the prediction infos ^^. Quote
Alex_Incognito Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:39 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:39 PM Jesus H. Christ, thanks Sony. Though, Celine is an artist that sells more CDs than downloads. We must keep that in mind. Oh well, I thought a #1 would be hard with the lack of promotion. Who's buying the Alicia LP? I don't know any Alicia fans! lol Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
Ted Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:40 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:40 PM (edited) I just bought 10 albums of Taking Chances for Thanksgiving gifts, today. We have so many people for dinner. I, also, bought 2 albums and 1 CD DVD for myself. I might buy more for Christmas gifts. takingchances83 Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:44 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:44 PM In the US Celine had a tv appearance on Ellen today, this may boost her sales further in the week. To be honest it shouldnt matter so much if Alicia wins, celine is the biggest selling female artist of all time and has nothing to prove, Alicia is more modern and has only been around a few years it no real surprise shes selling more. The millions who went to see the vegas show will surely get the album soon but perhaps nt in the first week, there will be plenty of buyers of the album who went to A New Day surely. in the UK its very tough week, and the tv adverts havent been big enough to reach people who dont listen to radio 2 and who arent celines normal audience, plus the big mistake to not physically release the single! but Westlife are huge, leonas a new artist who has huge hype not to mention an exceptional voice, and spice girls are huge here or at least were. So Celine is doing well to get to no 4 and may go higher either later this week or in the run up to christmas i hope so anyway! Everyone tells friends and family how good the album is and try to get them to get a copy! Quote

thevoice Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:52 PM Author Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:52 PM still even if her numbers will turn higher - there is no way she'll sell more than alicia this week...i mean 550k?!?! she could easily debut at no 1 on almost every other week tho Quote
isurrender Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:56 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 08:56 PM To be honest, I knew that Alicia would be no1 but not with so much difference.I'm a bit disappointed as I expected at least 400.000 copies. She is doing a lot of promotion there (and Alicia even more than Celine, I saw her planning and she has a hit as well). One heart sold almost the double! Quote
krazy_kool_dude Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:03 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:03 PM Sony are gonna have to start forcing radios to play Celine's music! Pay them whatever. The next single has got to be a HIT! Quote http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/4136/siggyju5.jpg
takingchances83 Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:14 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:14 PM i dont know if its just cos it celine dion that they wont play it! i cant understand why Taking Chances didnt get more airplay, i get it in the US as its mainly rnb that gets played but in Europe it should be all over the radio. I dont understnad it, whether sony didnt push it enough? I doubt its sony fault tho, just bad song choice even though i love it and can see any other song on the album being a better first single! there isnt much else she can do musically, if she goes too far her fans wont like it and if she does her normal style radio wont play it. But id say push a rockier track like fade away with a great video or surprise and see how that does, she also should do a movie theme again to get the airplay and promo perhaps to a big movie with a killer song or a big duet ? i dont know but end of day the album is another success and we cant expect her to maintain her 90s popularity the music scene is so different. Loup_garou Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:16 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:16 PM Perez's "Report" Celine vs. Alicia: Who Will Come Out On Top? The numbers are in! Both Celine Dion and Alicia Keys released new albums this week. And while they didn’t come into it with any of the Kanye/50 hype, both are expected to sell very well. Only one will take the #1 spot, though. No One is expected to sell about 550,000 copies, music biz peeps tell PerezHilton.com. Meanwhile, Dion’s Taking Chances, her first English-language album in four years, should sell about 250,000. Congrats to both women. See, people still buy CDs! http://perezhilton.com/?p=8784 Quote
nickah79 Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:27 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:27 PM 250,000 copies? Who comes up with these estimates? That's ridiculously too low. I believe she will sell more than 250,000 copies. Quote
takingchances83 Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:30 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:30 PM i would definetly say over 400k, with the promo plus the vegas show being so popular. Quote
Shaun Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:37 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:37 PM If she continues to promote only her old material without speaking a word about her new album, nothing will change. CelineDion.com says "The new English album everyone is talking about" - yeah everyone except Celine!! I totally see your point. If Celine finishes on 250k then I consider that a poor week to be honest. However the promo for the US has literally just started so hopefully as the the week goes on the numbers will improve. Celine has to start concentrating on her new material though, I agree. That's one thing I commend her for on her UK promo tour, she performed her new material. If I remember correctly "A New Day Has Come" debuted at #1 in 17 countries, "Taking Chances" will struggle to make it to the top in 1. How times have changed eh? Shamrock_1982 Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:41 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 09:41 PM i rekon celine will be no.1 with the album here, but not till around xmas (after ''an audience with celine'' air and the outdoor uk promo kicks in).....competition is tough this week and there's no way she can catch up with leona before sunday sadly... She made a new album which is rather different to bring a new fresh image...And she isn't promoting anything about those new songs...She even doesn't sing her entire old songs, what is that ??? It's nothing... She can continues to do all the most important shows...It won't change anything... Worst, she is destroying the album ! She is even not capable of paying musicians to create an athmosphere ! I can't believe it. We know what is the problem : TIME !If René was a little bit more clever, he would have scheduled less show, and then she would have had the time to prepare some real live like for exemple : Right next, New Daw, Woman in me, This time, My love.... And she would have intoduced the album with that... Indeed, all the artists do that...Except Celine actually. Quote

firebird Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:02 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:02 PM Maybe she should hire a bunch of old overrated "writers" whose books nobody has ever heard of to keep the promotion machine rolling?! ...Wait, she's done that before .. Regarding promotion she's been off the track for a while, that's more than clear. The sad thing is that her people at SonyBMG seem to have lived in the same bubble. Quote

Shaun Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:06 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:06 PM Good point about the "Taking Chances" CBS special next year, that will prove invaluable in airing her material and also propelling the album back up the charts. I have no doubt the album will sell fairly well between now and Christmas on Celine's name alone but after that the Sony promo machine has to pull out all the stops for Celine and get her new single the exposure it will need. Add to that any promotional appearances Celine makes she must stop singing songs from albums from over 10 years ago, concentrate on the new stuff Celine / Rene / Sony. Please! LuisMa Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:17 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:17 PM I am very disappointed at the sales, but still I saw it coming. Lead-off track did not click with audiences, so they should have made a contingency plan à la Shayne Ward, whose "If That's Ok With You" was a disaster, and they quickly changed the lead single to "No U Hang Up," resulting in a big chart debut. So many single-worthy hits on "Taking Chances" and they chose a lackluster one. Then, it's amazing that Celine is doing promo this week, but why sing so many old songs on Oprah???? I know it was a fan-themed show, but still we are the fans and we love her old stuff, but she needs to showcase her amazing new material and bring new fans onboard!! And there she is, singing six songs, of which just two are "brand" new. Now, if we look at the terrible side of business, Fergie's album has had four Top 2 singles in the US, with a fifth one on the way up, and the album has just managed to sell an approximate 3 million copies. That's just depressing! Sony has to wisely choose Celine's next single! She needs a hit desperately. I remember people saying that after saturating the airwaves with "My Heart Will Go On," she would not have another hit single, and she proved them wrong by scoring three massive hits afterwards. Now, as Chuck Taylor said, she is just one year older than Gwen Stefani, and there are radio-ready hits that can make her commercially viable, so she needs that push from the record label and a lot of support! I just hope her album does more than that sum of 250000 copies that retailers are projecting. Quote

lyn Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:32 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:32 PM You know it just occurred to me that the kind of people who are going to buy this album (i.e. older folks) are not the people who're going to know the exact day it comes out -- who don't roam blogs and don't go to forums and aren't the kind of people who'd download it immediately or rush right out and get it, but there's still a huge lot of people who are prepared to buy the album and will. I expect the album to do poorly this week, but to peak for sure in the upcoming ones. Quote Philadelphia, PA, Sept 5 2008.New York, NY, Sept 16 2008, Madison-Freaking-Square Garden.

kdw123 Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:47 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 10:47 PM (edited) I'm sorry, but the 250,000 copies estimate is only a rumor and and a bad one at that. Celine will sell much more than that amount this week! I have only heard the Target commercial for AK and otherwise have never heard another of her songs (that I remember at least), but I am NOT impressed from the Target commercial and would never buy one of her CDs. In stores in my area, Celine's CD has been selling really like crazy and AK's CD is just sitting on the racks gathering dust. Let's wait for some official sales numbers before we start complaining or panicing over false rumors! Edited November 14, 2007 at 10:49 PM by kdw123 Quote
Xpresso Posted November 14, 2007 at 11:06 PM Posted November 14, 2007 at 11:06 PM Gee, RELAX people!! There are many artists out there who would love to sell 250 000 albums in the first week!! For a legend like Celine, it's quite amazing really. Look at artists that have been around for a long time and they don't sell like Celine does. If Sony wanted a #1 album, then they should have released it a little earlier - mid October or so to avoid the November storm... It's actually pretty good to sell that many albums without a huge hit single. Now if it's true that she will sell half of Alicia, then it's better that she maintains the second position with the minimum number of albums and keep those sales for week 2 to overtake Alicia in the next few weeks (if there are no other big releases next week)! Celine's core fanbase doesn't rush out on day 1 to buy the album but eventually picks it up when they go shopping... But I agree she has to stop singing her old songs while promoting the new album...
