Here is the full news on it Groban, Blige Enjoy Huge Weeks On Album ChartJosh Groban December 27, 2007, 10:20 AM ET Chris M. Walsh, N.Y.Josh Groban's "Noel" (143/Reprise) this week becomes the first Christmas album to top The Billboard 200 for five straight weeks, after moving 757,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Groban's total, which was up 13% from last week, helped hold off hefty competition from Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains" (Geffen), the only debut to crack the top 10 this week. The R&B star's ninth album landed at No. 2 and shifted 629,000 copies. Despite a whopping 62% sales spike, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) slips 2-3 in its sixth week on the chart, selling 474,000. The Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (Eagles Recording Co.) also slides down one spot to No. 4 with 313,000 (+30%). Moving 260,000 copies, Miley Cyrus' Disney double-disc set "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus" jumps 7-5 thanks to a 46% sales increase from the previous week. The "Now 26" multi-label hits compilation slides 4-6, pulling in 235,000 copies (+22%) in its sixth week of release. Arista Nashville artist Carrie Underwood jumps to slots to No. 7 with "Carnival Ride," on a 57% increase to 216,000. Big Machine artist Taylor Swift remained at No. 8 with her self-titled debut, selling 187,000 (+35%). Disney's "High School Musical 2" fell 6-9 on 185,000 copies sold (+4%) and Jive artist Chris Brown rounded out the top 10 after a 65% leap to 176,000 for "Exclusive." After an 11-5 jump last week, Mannheim Steamroller's American Gramophone set "Christmas Song" stumbles to No. 14 with 151,000, a 16% fall. The set was only one of three releases in the top 50 to post fewer sales this week from last. The other two were Bow Wow & Omarion's "Face Off" (T.U.G./Columbia) -- last week's top debut -- which fell 11-29 to 83,000 (-22%), and "Audio Day Dream" (Arista/J) from "American Idol" alum Blake Lewis, which drifted 32-44 and sold 55,000 (-4%). Other debuts this week include Jaheim's Atlantic debut "The Makings of a Man," which moved 176,000 at No. 11, Lupe Fiasco's sophomore Atlantic effort "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool" at No. 15 on 143,000 and "The Fight of My Life" (Gospocentric) from gospel artist Kirk Franklin, new at No. 33 (74,000) Sales during the pre-holiday week were 25.57 million units, a 42% over last week, but lagged behind the same week in 2006 by 18% (31.26 million). stillwater Posted December 28, 2007 at 01:33 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 01:33 AM Agree 100%. Taking Chances' sales is quite a letdown. Celine should have sold more considering the promo she did. She worked hard promoting it as she was pretty much everywhere. Goes to show, if an album doesn't carry a hit single, people generally won't buy it. I'm also quite disappointed with how Sony is handling Celine as a resident artist. Does anybody know what's holding Sony in releasing a follow-up single? Taking Chances as a carrier single never took off. Sony should have already made the move to counter the lukewarm response to the song. I'm rarin' to see Celine back on top of the charts. A New Day in Las Vegas dvd is flying off the shelves. Why not re-package the dvd with the Taking Chances cd. Paging Sony!!!!! In my opinion sales are still bit disappointing...Alica's sales are way flattering...just this week 474,000........That's what great single does. Does anyone has Celine sales for past week? Quote

I feel listening to Celine makes me classier....makes me just better overalll....and well...I mean come on...we obviously have a richer taste in music. Black Kitten Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:00 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 02:00 AM i agree. celine's sales is a bit disappointing and she's close to being out of the top 20. look at alicia keys' as i am, the cd is carrying 'no one' and 'like you'll never see me again' which is the reason people are buying her cd. that's what good singles can do to the entire album. i hope sony will release a strong single from taking chances because celine is running out of time. the holiday is almost over. but i still doubt sony is taking care of their artists the way they should. look at the disappointing sales of the king of pop michael jackson's last cd, invincible. anyone??? Ashane Posted December 28, 2007 at 04:56 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 04:56 AM You all have great points... Being a Celine fan in the USA can be really frustrating.... "Taking Chances" never really took off and the promotion of the album in stores is dismal... I was in target just the other day and had to cruise 6 or 7 aisles before I found her album under the title "Easy Listening". It got me so frustrated that I decided to try another store "Best Buy" where the album didnt feature in the Top 20 section and was hidden behind her older albums. I dont know about you guys, but I did a little store reshuffling and moved all the new albums to the top rack in front of Mariah Carey and Dido..... It's so frustrating... Then afterward, I searched for "A NEW DAY" DVD and found that it was on the bottom rack not visible to anyone but 5 year olds or the occassional midget. Granted there were about 15 copies.... so what did I do... I picked them all up and planted them on the top shelf visible to all.... I was so mad that I actually purchased 3 copies... Where are all the posters, Celine stands, window treatments? "A NEW DAY" got some great exposure on Yahoo.com and in the papers but Celine's promotion for the album can be seen on reruns of the view and the Ellen show... Thank god for the writer's strike. Sony really needs to get cracking and send a stong song to radio as more competition lurkes in the wings including Madonna, Mariah and Janet Jackson... I know Im going on here but I just wanted to see if you'd had trouble finding this album and what type of stand you are taking??? PS - The DVD was amazing... IF anyone is reading this and lives in Boston, MA... let me know as I'd love to meet up and share Celine moments and stories! Quote
Prince Whiskers Posted December 28, 2007 at 06:52 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 06:52 AM If Celine says that sales no longer concern her that much, let's at least TRY to give her leeway. Do you want her to unravel psychologically due to persistent fan dissent? Quote http://cdn.webecoist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/modern-pet-solo-blown-glass.jpg
dj_a_rock Posted December 28, 2007 at 07:57 AM Posted December 28, 2007 at 07:57 AM In my opinion sales are still bit disappointing...Alica's sales are way flattering...just this week 474,000........That's what great single does. Does anyone has Celine sales for past week? Alicia sold half million in just a week? OMG!!! Quote

How can this be dissapointing, I dont think some people understand how good this is. We need to say Well Done becuase there arent many artists that can do this, these days. Celine's sales are steady and she has staying power where as I think most of them that are selling bigger like Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse will be long gone in a few years time. 20 odd years on she is still selling millions. WELL DONE NOW PLEASE LESS OF THE NEGATIVITY Quote
