Stations That Are Playing Taking Chances

A friend of mine works as a DJ for our local pop radio (kinda like KISS) and he says that they WILL absolutely NOT be playing the song unless it makes a huge splash nationwide (like on MTV or KISS; which is this stations rival). He did say that their adult-contemporary station is playing it. woo...... hoo??

I thought we were the only ones who couldn't hear Celine on the radio yet.... I've emailed Sony BMG Arg thousand of times... no reply!

I think this is the main problem everywhere. Most POP stations are waiting to see if this song will take off before adding it to their playlist. So, Taking Chances will first have to reach the top 5 on AC Charts (which will happen very soon!!) and then it will probably start making a cross-over to Hot AC and POP, hopefully. It seems that POP stations don't want to be known as the Celine stations until others start playing it... It's a catch 22!

You are probably right but it's so ridiculous. If a song is good, then u play it that's all! It's not fair at all for Celine. They should do like our big radio stations here in Quebec. They were not playing her songs anymore but now Taking Chances is already a success.

Hey guys-

 

I emailed the local Pop station here in Boston (Kiss108) and asked the morning DJ to play the song. He then forwarded my request to their music director who actually got back to me earlier today and asked "If I was working for Sony to promote the single?" I explained, that he was crazy and that I was just a huge fan and thought the song has amazing potential. Now keep in mind that this is the same music director who debuted the song last Saturday on the Top 30 Countdown as a music extra. He explained that when Sony (Columbia) came into the studio to promote the song that they didn't tell him who the artist was... ie. mystery artist similar to Z100 in NYC. The music director went through every artist on the Columbia roster and didnt realize it was Celine. After being told it was her, he was stunned and couldnt get over how great she sounded. He explained that the song is going to be a sure hit... I asked him when the official role out of the song will be to the other DJ's and he explained songs such as these take about 2 weeks for them to heat up....

 

Looks like we might need to wait just a little longer for mass exposure and growth of TC....

I KNEW IT!! I knew that was why she was labeled Mystery Artist. They didnt want people to prejudge the track because its Celine. I dunno though...it totally sounds like her to me!

 

Z100 took her off their system cause I tried to request her the other day and they said there were no entries matching that song. Maybe they didn't get enough of a response? Or maybe they found out it was Celine and decided to get rid of it.

dont ask me what radi station it was (i work at a hospital in the UK) was working today and the ward clerk had the radio on and taking chances was being played, i heard the dj say something about it being great after, but i was too busy working looking after people, i honestly dont know what station it was, but i do know for sure it has been played at least once in the UK, if anyone knows anything about UK radio the dial was all the way to the left except for maybe a centimeter if that helps, not sure if it was am fm etc, but there cant be that many stations at around the 50 - 90 mark!!!

I cannot believe that news about Z100 by the way. Sony would actually go to them and not have the guts to say "oh this a great new sound for Celine Dion, can you support it?" Can you imagine any other artists record label having to do this?

 

Moreover the news about Radio 2 adding the song to the playlist from is superb news. The significance of that cannot be underestimated for the chances of the single and album to do well in the UK. I hope Sony UK continues this by sending out the song to commercial and local radio nationwide now.

Well it's a change of strategy (all by a new team) and I have to see it works or what they're trying to prove is true. People, and especially radio DJ's/stations are quite judging about Céline. And with this approach they'll actually first LISTEN to the song, before giving an opinion. Where in the past, or the way it usually goes, the DJ goes like "Celine Dion?! Yuck" before even having heard the song. Now they'll have no choice but to listen and THEN have an opinion. I actually applaud Columbia for doing this, I might add, daring approach.

 

Same way in Holland. A radio station that usually plays quite hip stuff (so not-Céline), actually had the premiere here. The DJ even admitted it on air...."when I first saw the name of this artist I said, do I HAVE to play this?? but then I actually heard the song and I quite like it!".
