New English Album PREVIEW Review

I really hope there's a max of 3 covers on this album.... quite a pity really with all these great people involved. But we'll see..

Frankly I'm not surprised at all. We would have much more info from the proper writers if they had written something explicitely for Céline. But it's no big deal. The point is what the songs mean to her.

it seems more and more as if they just took various songs that were previously recorded and most of them were never hits and decided to put them all on the album....i expected much more this time

the songs might be great but what does it say about their attitude? basicly celine never worked with all of those producers that were mentioned - she just took songs they recorded with other artists , songs that flopped , and recorded them again...i dont know what to think

her last real and full english album was in 2002 - it's so sad they r so careless musicly and artisticly when it comes to her english career...

Her last full Engish albm was in 2002?? You mean "A New Day Has Come"?? Sorry to break it to you party pooper but on that album there were a total of 6 covers (including 1 adaptation of her own French song):

It's no secret that Celine loves to do covers. They are mainly unknown to the general public.

I don't usually mind when she does covers. I'm more concerned with the actual song and how she sounds, but you should limit the amount per album so you don't become knows as a cover artist. Celine's obviously cemented her status, but she tends to do quite a bit of covers that nobody really knew of which is how she gets by under the radar I think.

 

And when I heard the song in Vegas it sounded very out of place with the rest of the songs considering most of them had a heavy guitar arrangement and this one kicks in with a weird sounding ukelele, and it's very acoustic so it took me by surprise. It will probably sound a bit better the more I listen to it and I can surely say it sounds a helluva lot better than this Tim guy; he can't really sing at all.

 

I should specify vocally, again, Celine sings it pretty much just like this guy did only sounds better doing it. Not a lot of variation from the original.

But knowing that none of the songs were finalized (mix wise), maybe they'll take note and amp it up a little so it doesn't sound out of place. Maybe not. Anyways, that singer is not known outside Denmark so I highly doubt anyone would've heard that song before unless they live in Scandinavia. Just a guess.

 

And it doesn't bother me either that she does cover songs... just not too many, whether the song is previously known or not.

 

Looks like only Alone is a very well known song among all of the covers she's planning to release. To me that's acceptable... sort of!

 

I just hope that Eyes On Me is not the same song that Samantha Jade is about to relase on her debut album. That would mean Timabaland has served Celine some leftover and that I don't particularly like.

 

At least the Ne-Yo and R. Kelly songs are originals

They are. They both made a big deal talking to the press about it. If the songs were covers the media would point the finger at them big time. You just don't say "I wrote a song for Celine Dion" and know it was recorded by someone else before.

I agree with both of you at the same time... So far we have the confirmation of 3 covers.. Out of 14 is no big deal, considering that some of her albuns had more than that... I'm kind of worried when we talk about covers exactly for the reason that people can start spreading words that she's a cover singer and yada yada. But as only a few people in the whole world know the songs she's covering , then it's not a motive for so much worry... And then the most important becomes, as siur said, what the songs really mean to her and how she's gonna transform them into a "Céline song" And I'm sure she's gonna do a great job on that!

I know a lot of you do not like the fact that she does some covers, but I don't care. I would probably have never even heard of "I Surrender All" if she had not recorded it....plus I don't think that there is one person on this forum that doesn't think that song is Amazing. Plus I probably would never have heard of "Ten Days" or had an appreciation for "If You Asked Me Too" or "All By Myself" if Celine had not recorded those songs. Yes I do like her to have original songs, but covers are fine too because neither I nor most of the general public will even know that they are covers or will have ever heard the original before.

So I know they won't change things at this point, but wouldn't it make the most sense for the first single to the Ne-Yo or R. Kelly song? Given the airplay of the recent singles she has released, who is to say a lot of radio stations will look at it and say, ok...its another Celine Dion song, who cares, why play it? (besides her fans of course)

 

So 99.9% of radio stations will play something from R. Kelly or Ne-Yo...if they FIRST released the song with one of those guys, the radio stations wouldnt have any problem playing the song, even if Celine is in it, because it also has one of the other guys.

 

If the song is successful, people that got tired of Celine back before her break, may kind of turn their head and take a second look. This would open up the door for her to get more airplay on songs that will be released after the first single and more popularity.

 

Just a thought.

Honestly, I dont know if there are those duets for sure, but there seems to be a lot of people talking about it.

The R.Kelly duet wouldnt be out of the question, after all they did perform I'm Your Angel, which was a great song with an r&b feel and it made it to #1 in the US if I am not mistaken?

Ever since Jennifer Lopez announced that she would be going on tour with her hubby...the radio stations here in Birmingham have played her songs ALL THE TIME. I can only assume that she's paid the stations to play these songs. She needs the promotion.

I just hope that some ppl here realize that through all their talk about how much they dislike Céline doing covers and singing some absolutely UNKNOWN songs that have been performed only once or twice live in concert they spoil their listening experience big time.

 

It has been widely known that such practice was used by Céline and her team over and over again throughout the course of her English career - and even moreso for her comeback album "Falling Into You". And as we also know "Taking Chances" is a concept album in the sense of "Falling Into You" (they both share many similiraties) no fan should wonder they handle some song like they do now.

 

Don't be so hard on yourself, guys and don't judge before you listened the proper Céline's version. I think we owe her a fair judgment - even if some songs have been performed once (sic) before, doesn't mean Céline didn't find something special, attracting, alluring and magical in them for herself, something that she was apparently willing to explore and put her vintage stamp upon.

And like OMG, what do you care if they are covers? "1 fille & 4 types" had a lot of covers, Patricia Kaas's "Dans ma chair" has covers, many singers cover songs.Many famous singers choose unknown songs to promote them or to resing them in their own way.I really don't get it at all.This is very redundant.

Come on, everybody is speaking about covers but nobody speaks about the song. That's what counts no ? I totally love the song. The acoustic and folk sound... I've always wanted to heard Céline sing this kind of track...I'm really amazed to see that she will sing blues, rock and this amazing deep and acoustic ballad. I don't know, this song sounds like an old classic from a road movie, and in the same time it is totally fresh.

 

For the moment, we have less covers than on her previous album...The only problem is that know we are aware of the situation 3 month in advance, which was not the case with LTAL or FIY. Of course I'm always surprised to see that with all the great composers who whant to compose for her, there are so many covers. But it is almost the same case for everyone, particularly for the pop and R'nB.

 

Sorry, I don't remind, could someone confirm if A song for you is the cover that everyone know ? If yes, it is with alone, the 2 only real covers on the album.

Well..i'm a little lost here...!! I've just come back from 1 month "in the middle of nowhere" without computer, tv etc...Just a dream!!!!!
