Celine has always tried to stay up with the trends and up until A New Day Has Come generally she was ahead of the trends. The type of music she was doing in the 90's was popular everywhere and she reaped the rewards for it. Even a bold recording of That's The Way It Is worked for her because it was the right thing to do at the right time.

 

When she returned from her hiatus she clearly wanted to move forward and stay with the current trends hence her recording songs like I'm Alive, When The Wrong One Loves You Right and Rain, Tax (It's Inevitable) but it was too late even in 2002. The whole pop scene had moved on and people weren't interested. Whatever you believe she tried to emulate Cher in 2003 by releasing a pure and simple dance song in "I Drove All Night." The fans loved it because it was new and funky for Celine but the general public had heard it all before from a thousand different artists 5 years earlier and simply, no one was interested.

 

It was then they simply decided to abandon the idea of Celine "keeping up" by doing Miracle and although successful to some degree even that proved that Celine really does need to take a massive leap in terms of her next English recordings as Miracle will not be remembered in years to come, if it's even remembered now.

 

Celine does have the ability to remain at the top but as a world class pop singer she needs to move with the times and record songs that people want to hear and sadly since 2002 she's just been one step behind. Hopefully in October of this year it's our Celine that's setting the trends!

I think songs like Femme comme Chacune, Les Paradis, Le Tempe Qui Compte in english will do very well... not too much over the top, nice sound, guitars, sing a long...

I think that's sad since Miracle was a really solid record in terms that it was one that she really wanted to do. She chose the songs for it. It was harmonic and genuine. The song arrangements were really good. In my opinion if she does something like that for her next album and reworks her vocal techniques for the better (that's one of the things you might hold agains Miracle) she can surprise as all. I really don't want an album that has "desperate need of another #1 hit" written on it.

i dont think so, just remember how many english hits celine have on her english career: one or two?!!!!!

and how many hits have much more youngest artists like christina,pink, beyonce? TONS of hits!!! 4,5,6 hitsongs from every disc!! and celine? still nothing, still radio and people unfriendly songs, so i hope rene finally get clever and from many poor english albums (unknown to most people )yes we love that albums but only WE!!! celines fans)). we will have finally first celine succes

you forgot TT which spent 14 weeks or something at no 1 in the UK (never happened again for any artist I think...)and of course there is ABM and OOR...

 

Look Pink, X-tina, Beyoncé are now a lot on the radio, because they are hot artists now... but Céline was a hot artist 10 years ago and played everywhere! In 10 years I don't think Pink, X-tina, Beyoncé will have much airplay, not as much as today... that's called life... you come, you go...

 

btw...The only songs I hear from X-tina is Beautiful.. not the other '4' hits.. and from pink the same story...

With one BIG differnce! I can't remember hearing any of their previous hits right now but i Do remember hearing "Just walk away" on Star Fm yesterday (Thessaloniki, Greece) (And many others of course)! After all, a career based on hits only ain't gonna last long unless good songs are recorded. As you said... Christina and Beyonce are "IN" but Celine is a Performer!

I agree with shaun on many points.. but I like to add that IDAN wasn't that good promoted.. duh hahaha but Céline only performed it in the US, and there wasn't any promo in Europe... and no station, here in Holland, played the song... for the 'cool' stations Céline has never been cool and for the easy listening station the song was too much... She might have had a hit with HYEBIL but sony decided to cancel the single

Exactly! And since she does not have to prove anything to anyone anymore she could focus on making high quality albums artistically (like her French albums). Even if they would not be so "commercial" she has a huge fan base who would buy her albums even then....

Personally I'd love to hear a rock album, but I'm okey with all genres.

well I'm not so sure about that... HYEBIL the clip was actually shown on TMF, a dutch music channel... now IDAN and OH didn't even make it.. and some stations where playing it too... she could have had a little hit then!

This album scares me. Seriously... The Ben Moody songs will probably be really cool. But all this Snoop, Ne-Yo, Timbaland talk is seriously scaring me. We'll see what happens but I'm afraid.

Those who are sceptical towards the new additions to Céline's team miss the point I think. Just as Gategno has been added to Céline's producers team - he did his VERY VERY best already cuzz it was the very first time he worked with her. I heard and saw IDAN on tv and radio quite often in the Uk (in N.Ireland at least). I was on a bus once going home from Belfast and IDAN came on and I sqealed like sissy-girl. The coolfm DJ loved it. But then it fizzled away... the song is a hit with the gay crowd anyway- it's on nearly every night I'm out in Manchester. All the poofters doing the steering wheel move- love it! This new album will be loved by us, wait and see. I am slightly worried if she can stand out amongst Whitney, Mariah etc- I know she can still sell and do well but I want her to headbutt that big-titted wonder right out of her league- as she did in the 90s. She will undoubtedly get slack for trying to recreate herself...but hey, when has Celine not got slack for everything? Ne-yo has just come on my iTunes while writing this...if Celine's voice was added to this music- heaven. We say she has to move on...I can't reiterate often enough that it'll be subtle- it won't be her bumping and grinding Timba's Versace clothed leg. A L L W I L L B E W E L L

This is exciting! For them to realize that Celine needs a change. It's just natural - if people see something they don't expect of Celine, then we'll take notice. Just like Madonna--it's all about reinventing. So I'm very happy that this will be a fresh, totally new album.

 

I just hope Celine stays true to what she's good at - and just throws in some new sounds.

We've all been crying out for Sony to support Celine's career and to get her back to the top and it seems that they are doing everything in their power with this upcoming English album to do just that.

 

They are recruiting the highest profile producers and writers to work with Celine to enable her to return with a fresh, modern and new sound. Celine will get stick for trying to change, of that there is no doubt, but I am highly interested to hear the results of Celine moving with the times.

 

Sony see Celine as a popular music singer and I commend them for encouraging her to record music that is right now very popular!

Hello y'all! I thought I'd start this thread to encourage everyone to stop posting their fears and worries of Celine's proposed r'n b collaboration in the Official English Album Thread. It's getting a tad long-winded and should really only be for official news. Here we can spam till our hearts are uncontent.

 

What are your guesses for names of the album? Hand Over My Heart or whatever it was is poop and if it is called that I won't buy it.

 

Who else thinks 2 of the to-be-confirmed tracks will be the Lennox Duet and The Show Must Go On?

 

P.s I Knew I Loved You seems old to me already- I don't particularly want this in her English repertoire despite it being a good song.
