Ajax Posted June 20, 2020 at 09:37 AM Posted June 20, 2020 at 09:37 AM (edited) As per usual I don’t agree 😁 people have a short memory. During all A new day era even if it was better when she was out of Vegas on TV for example it Has been the worst. She was clogged as f***. Her voice was not fuller at all. She was making like weird animal sounds. It was painful to listen to. I’m not exaggerating. Like fans were doing petitions to alert on her voice for the live album just as an exemple. In 2020 she s doing way better. I’m not telling it’s perfect nor that I don’t agree with some thin elements and yodeling. But she has never sound that good since a long time. And yes in term of several aspects. Her global approach and mastering reaches again a high technical level. She finally manage to control her too deep nasal and old sound for a richer beautiful low register. globally the her tone has never been that beautiful since a long time. Her higher belts is reaching again the technical precision and perfect pitch (see courage live and Une Chance qu’on sa) She is mixing different vocal technics like never before with a rich and full voice, her raisonnance and vibrato being that strong (The prayer 2020) and so on. She clearly improved. No one would want her to go back to the vocal A new day era with that awful clogged too deep nasal voice mixed with mouse dying sounds. And I must add that Courage the album is not representative at all of those recent clear improvements. courage is 2017 2019 era mainly. Not the worst but more of a transition period vocally as well as being quite exhausted still by her recent personal life I would say. Edited June 20, 2020 at 09:41 AM by Ajax 3 Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted June 20, 2020 at 10:25 AM Posted June 20, 2020 at 10:25 AM (edited) We have different ears. So, yeah! I prefer the Final year of A New Day which was sounded fuller instead of a froggy thin vocals about the lower notes. I think A New Day (Seduces Me as an example) it has a better low notes. Fuller sound than the current which sounded lighter and I think it’s ok since at least some will love her “new voice” in 2020. But i prefer the thicker vocals like in A New Day whether you call it clogged. But her new voice were already sounded like singing in a can like it was said last last week by a fellow member in this forum. i think with her new voice. Some parts she can’t control without any yodeling and the “eur” froggy-granny sound and some sounded weak and flat like in Lying Down. Before the chorus, it’s a bit weak and thin if you asked me. Better to ask a professional to compare which are better. Obviously, it’s the 2007 version. More open and controlled thicker vocals than a thin nasal vocals but can hit higher notes by mixing it. BTW, her belts are also better in final years of A New Day compared to the new one. She can’t belt longer than before. If You Asked Me To is one of it. Yes, she can hold the note but the thin flat vocals exists Edited June 20, 2020 at 10:38 AM by jpatdeleon09 Quote
Céline RO Posted June 20, 2020 at 11:18 AM Posted June 20, 2020 at 11:18 AM Btw, isn’t Shania older than Céline? I have noticed that her voice got thinner as well. Yes, Shania is older than Céline but with her voice it’s something completely different. 1 Quote The best is yet to come...

First of all, how can you say that her low notes are thin and light now and that they were fuller and better in 2007? Listen to the low notes section in this video, they’re beautifully full to me, definitely more so than in 2007 (especially the F3/F#3): https://youtu.be/wldpN-TgVQ4 I think nowadays her voice is actually the opposite of thin. It’s fuller and more powerful than in the late 2000s, almost like it was in the 90s. You can clearly hear it in many songs. For example RDMH in which the lines “and it gets stronger...and it gets deeper...and it gets higher” sounded thin and mixed in 2007-2009. Now they sound fuller, more chesty again. Just listen to how full and powerful her voice sounds at one of her most recent shows, in March 2020 (I also love that angle and lighting): https://youtu.be/wZYaJU2XUoM In my opinion, better than in the Taking Chances era. 2021 will be a new prime, I’m telling you! I’m judging her Lying Down performance. Isn’t that song requires low notes? It’s a bit thin. 2007 Seduces Me 6:26 - That low note is so healthy more controlled, dynamics, low notes are healthy, bedroom voice are placed in the right moment. The fuller sound is not (louder or higher) it’s the thickness of the voice. So, the RDMH performances that you were saying are not full but she can go higher (mixed range) still not thick. Also, you picked the awful sound quality. 2020 RDMH - See. It’s a bit thin. Shaky 2007 RDMH - Consistent, More Open. Also more energetic Belting parts 2007 - BYLM - thicker, more depth 2020 - IYAMT - flat, thin, no depth at all and it sounded like singing in a can this is an example of singing like in a can like her voice is not fully open. Maybe it’s the eq of the sound guy for her new voice but obviously her voice is thinner compared before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQRIpyRw2Mw Edited June 20, 2020 at 12:43 PM by jpatdeleon09 Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted June 20, 2020 at 12:47 PM Posted June 20, 2020 at 12:47 PM (edited) I think for her new voice. I want her again to sing more relaxed like she used to. Slowly but clearly. Now, what i’ve noticed is she sounded tense like “ok ok the high part is coming focus on that...” Even though the sound quality is bad. Listen how she sounded relaxed, slow and clear. Not to loose. Not worrying if she will do the high note at the end. Even though she didn’t do that the result is still amazing. Dynamics are present https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjN758Jrec4 2020 listen to (Far across the distance and spaces) - you can notice that thinness of her new voice and the way she sang it. Too loose but the humming at the end is way beautiful than in 2009. Original version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joZ7F1vKKrQ Edited June 20, 2020 at 12:56 PM by jpatdeleon09 Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted June 20, 2020 at 01:10 PM Posted June 20, 2020 at 01:10 PM (edited) But I still want to see Courage Tour in person. Of course, as i said before it’s better to see it in person than listening to a fancam (since it changes the sound quality. BIG TIME!) Based on my experience back in 2018. Her voice is really better in person. Now.. mostly, her proshot don’t give it justice. More on fancams or sometimes fancams are better than on the proshot. I think it depends on the gadgets used and how the noise canceling feature can affect the sound quality Edited June 20, 2020 at 01:11 PM by jpatdeleon09 2 Quote

And I think therefore the best time to see Celine, theoretically, would've been in Vegas at CP during the height of her voice...so maybe 2007. I was so curious when she’s about to lipped to the chorus of the song if it’s obvious transitioning from live vocals to pre recorded track (since it was my first time to hear her live in person. I’m used to just listening to fancams from celine fans who goes at her concerts and record everything) And I was amazed! It’s like she’s still singing Live. So, it’s really better to hear her live than watching on fancams because it really has huge difference from the sound quality. Like her voice is so perfect. Unlike on fancams, her voice changes. I don’t know why that happens. I’m really sure there’s science behind that lol Quote

Céline RO Posted June 22, 2020 at 01:55 PM Posted June 22, 2020 at 01:55 PM A captivating interview with Céline’s vocal coach Johanne Raby: What I found most interesting is that she says that the voice only matures at age 30 and only reaches its peak at age 50-55. She also reinforces what Céline has said many times before, that a singer is an athlete and has to do vocal exercises everyday. Johanne says that if singers do work on their voice everyday, their voice shouldn’t get any deeper as a singer gets older (ages 60-70). She also talks about Céline’s 2018 ear surgery and her song “Ashes”. The only thing I find a bit worrying about her is that she doesn’t seem demanding enough. She seems more like a “yes person” who’s easy to satisfy. However, if she is responsible for Céline’s voice improving, I’m happy. 3 Quote The best is yet to come...

In all of the aspects of Celine's career this is by far for me the most interesting part. I would die listening to all her coaches speaking about how they work with her, what they really think of her voice, technic, how she works on her voice, her real dedication, analysis on her voice changes, how she behave during lessons, how much she works, what aspect she wants to improve, focus on....All of that. I don’t think Skype is a good idea when the coach must be able to hear every subtle thing in Céline’s voice. With Céline’s old vocal coach Monique Cardinal (the one she had from 2015 to presumably 2017), she used to come to Vegas every once in a while and stay there for a few days or weeks to work with Céline. Maybe Johanne does too. Quote The best is yet to come...
