I watched the 2002 World Children's Day concert on YouTube last night. And whoever said her voice was at its absolute best then was totally right. She was AMAZING after 3 years of rest. Flawless

Indeed. Her voice in 2002 was close to perfection because of that rest. No trembling at any point, any raspiness, not the least sign of fatigue during any song she performed anywhere during the whole promotion of 2002. Just clear and strong vocals as in the mid 90s. Rest is exactly what she needs so bad now. But it's the opposite she's doing all the time lol :hmm: :unsure:

Lots of things to consider...

First of all, Celine's voice quality changed through the years. For example, it became much stronger in 1987 compared to previous recordings, even "En amour" or "Fais ce que tu voudras" released in 1986. And we can notice the same for every album since then.

Then, she improved her vocal technique, followed her doctors advice to the letter and in less than five years reached the peak of her voice quality (that was the prognosis in early 1991). Her voice became more flexible, had more nuances, became thinner, could sound soft, high, raspy... everything we listen on FIY. FIY was recorded during one of the most busiest years for Celine. She was working a lot but had discipline.

Doctors told her to forget about technique when she entered the recording studio or sang live. Emotions should take its place. And I think that if a singer wants to be different from her peers, she has to have her own style. The most popular singers out there are not perfect, but have something different that make them stand out from the rest. Perfect singers with the best technique hardly ever become successful.

The problem is that most of the time she places her tongue in the wrong place and thats what creates that feeling that she doesn't set her voice free. A bit like Shakira. And most of the time, she is nasal. I don't hear that on FIY, most of LTAL and the new songs on ATW. On the ANDHC making of she said that she didn't train her voice during her break, so she had to do it again for it to be more flexible. I don't like the way she sounds on "I'm Alive" and "Rain Tax", I guess they were among the first tracks she recorded. On the "Ten Days" she recorded live with Garou she sounds out of key. On the Millenium Concert in 1999 she was out of key too. Her voice sounded weak on "Au Coeur du Stade" but was so strong on the tracks she recorded for ATW two months later!

"Miracle" is a disaster as is the Vegas CD. I think 150 shows in Vegas and her father's illness and death took a toll on her voice.

Now... "La mer et l'enfant" in "Une seule fois" sounded awful. But I think that's the way she wanted to sing it because other tracks don't sound that bad. "Didn't Know Love" recorded that year or in 2012 (I don't remember) is among her best performances of the last decade. Unfortunately since "Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way" she started using the grainy voice and kept using it whenever she has the chance. It's not a voice problem, she wants to sound like that.

Some of you say a few contradictory things. First you say that doing so many shows harms her voice but in the same breath you say that she uses a lot of playback. Playback doesn't harm her voice!

The only problem is that she is not training her voice as she should and that she wants to sound nasal, grainy, dry, weak, she feels like screaming in the middle of the song (forgetting what Marnay and Goldman taught her). What worries me most is her sounding out of key so often (last time in "Immotality" at the Bee Gees Grammys Salute).

Comparing to now.. I think she overused her voice last year, last concert from the tour she was struggling to hit the notes, than vegas again, look at this ending of MHWGO and ABM ( the worst in my opinion)

And finally the last concert where she went out of pitch in incredible. (in my opinion, im not a professional! )

So yes she really needs to rest the voice and train it properly, im not sure if the change of her vocal coach was a good thing.

I think she can get her "nuances" back but not without resting and training her voice, she clearly loves to sing and it's smart enough to know "the instrument" i just hope this tour and series of concerts after (In vegas) will not take a tole on her voice again like 2016

If she can't do prolonged rest/training, I think she could actually get most of the way there by returning to her old habit of not speaking the day of a performance (or the night before unto)...obviously very hard with kids, but still.

Perfection!

Up until she was off key during (Everything I do) I do it for you with Bryan Adams at the Millenium concert, I had never heard Céline sing off key or even anything less than what I'd consider perfect!

I used to watch Live in Memphis every time it came on VH1 and that was almost every week - Anyone remember when they used to have 'Céline Dion day' every so often? They showed concerts, interviews and videos... those were some of the best days of my childhood!

Anyway, she's not a machine and I respect the fact that back then her voice was her number one priority. That has now changed but she's still amazing (EUS album) and beside the music she still brings me so much joy just being herself so she can do whatever she wants and I won't complain! 😀

She didn't even fihisn some phrases properly cutting the words on the way to their end.

Well, I know that one might consider our constant concern about her vocal state ridiculous but the fact is that she badly needs rest. The tour is just in a month!

She needs proper training or a long voice rest, which I think it's not possible due to her schedule

There won't be a proper vocal rest as long as she is in Vegas and keeps coming back and forth to do that sequence of shows, for which she looks way uninspired long ago :innocent: :hmm:

The lack of inspiration and the repetitive setlists to which she forces her voice also take its toll in this issue about her voice.

But then it would have happened in the AND-run as well.... She really needs to take care of her voice. In TSMGO she's in some parts not on key and that is not what we are used to while hearing Céline though... Or she had a really off day that night. Proper vocal training, back to basic and rest is what she needs... She has to sing with an open throat again. Just like the clip of ABM in 2011. There she was open. Listen to that end, damn... She was resonating out there and belt with ease. Take care of your voice, Céline...

Since i guess she can not do anything about her schedule i think that maybe a different training for her voice could help, im not an specialist but this seems to fit the circumstances, i just don't think she wants to have days of silence and hard training again.. She keeps singing coz thats her passion..

And yes this runs of repetitive concerts and setlist might be soooo boring and kinda makes her lazy with her voice i guess.. But after all she's a professional and knows her instrument i mean she probably is aware of the changes in her voice

I'm of the thought that this "vocal change" is just her protecting her voice. I mean maybe she's singing lower to help preserve her voice since she knows she's got a lot on her plate this summer/fall/winter. I think she's 100% aware. I don't think she's getting lazy with her technique, but really the opposite.

I didn't mean she's getting lazy with her vocal technique, i meant to sing the same songs maybe can put her at a "robotic" way with some songs even live ones and this can effect her voice like becoming nasal.. Im sure she's aware of her voice condition I just don't know what/if she's gonna change anything for the crazy lots of concerts to come this year
