idroveallnight Posted April 20, 2023 at 12:54 AM Posted April 20, 2023 at 12:54 AM It’s definitely been a mixed bag since ANDHC. Rather than embracing the ballads that made her famous they just kept moving toward pop songs and covers that just weren’t the genre people fell in love with her for. It always surprised me that I Surrender was never released as a single but is one of the most performed songs on these singing competition shows. I’m sure it had to do with the pressure of remaining fresh and relevant as she entered her 30s/40s and to be “cool.” Look at Adele for example… she has stayed in the same lane with her ballady music and done remarkably well as a performer just showcasing her voice. There is also a clear progression to her music. That is amazing to me considering Celine has been so intensely scrutinized and criticized by the media for her schmaltzy love songs. Whatever the difference is, Celine has cemented herself as a legend in music history. Whatever new music is released is for the fans. Quote

Even the ballads that she did record, they turned out shittty for the most part because of the “bedroom voice”, because they haven’t been produced good enough, or no proper bridge/chorus or a combination of all of those things! I wish Celine and her team would realize that old school Celine is cool now. Stop trying to be Sia or Adele and just be authentic. Authentic Celine will always be winner. 3 Quote

LukeD Posted April 20, 2023 at 01:52 AM Posted April 20, 2023 at 01:52 AM I agree with the comment above but disagree that Adele has showcased progression with her music. To me it's like she's released the same album 4 times already. 4 Quote
CourageProject Posted April 20, 2023 at 01:57 AM Posted April 20, 2023 at 01:57 AM if he is relieved that it means that it's an old song and it's finally getting out there. If it was recently recorded he wouldn't have to be relieved it is FINALLY coming outI think he means to have collaborated with Celine Quote

That is the Celine that sells out the concerts, so lean into that. That’s the one we fell in love with. 3 Quote
idroveallnight Posted April 20, 2023 at 03:03 AM Posted April 20, 2023 at 03:03 AM The difference is that Adele has always had the "cool factor" and Celine was always looked at as either an old lady or an ironic goofball. I’ve always chalked up Celine’s goofiness to humility, like I know how goddamned talented I am but I try to not take myself too seriously. She can have powerhouse vocals but still be relatable. As far as the cool factor for Adele, it’s her music, lyrics, and image. I think Celine could have easily had that if they just remained consistent and leveraged her francophone roots. It was just a different world when Celine came on the scene, but she paved the path for the Adeles to be cool while singing ballads. 3 Quote

Alex_Incognito Posted April 20, 2023 at 02:28 PM Posted April 20, 2023 at 02:28 PM I don't think Celine came across as goofy until the last 10 or 15 years. She had a better composure about herself up until ANDHC and OH. Then the lid came off the can and she couldn't get it back on. 4 Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990

She finally took that “heck of a break” in 2000, and came back quirky and goofy after 2 years of picking her own tomatoes. Sun poison? Quote

I am happy to hear who the authentic celine is.. I dont think that celine is authentically a balladeer.. she has too much energiee to be that.. her voice lends itself very well to ballads but im sure she loves uotempo songs just as much .. its what industry has marketed her to be doesnt mean thats authentically her.. she seems to be really fond of rock music also Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk 4 Quote

She had nothing to prove when she came back in 2002... and was clearly taking things easier than she did in the 90s, when she was still building her career and status. Quote
Celinefan2019 Posted April 22, 2023 at 01:28 PM Posted April 22, 2023 at 01:28 PM Yes, I agree. Besides LMTL was one of the last additions to the album. That is really telling. The only aspect of her career that I have a massive problem with is how her records after OH and up until Courage did not have a clear direction. It is as if they were targeting for both older and younger audiences at the same time or they were neglecting one of these audiences in specific instances. To the point where nothing worked. What are songs like 'A Song For You', 'A World To Believe In', 'New Dawn', 'Right Next To The Right One' doing in an album that was marketed as being edgy and pop/rock? What are songs like 'Overjoyed' and 'At Seventeen' doing in album that is supposed to be cool and youthful? How come she delivered what is the epitome of an AC show in 2011 onwards, but wanted to target a younger audience with her music? Point is, she had to stick to one audience IMO rather than trying to navigate in both territories. The only album that managed to balance out a youthful sound and old covers is ANDHC. Because ANDHC unlike most of her material is a concept album. Therefore songs like 'At Last' and 'Nature Boy' are thematically incorporated and flow nicely. The transition between songs is a smooth one. There is an organic connection. I did not feel this in Taking Chances and Loved Me Back To Life, so it was refreshing to me that Courage was an album with brand new material only, and very clear themes of love, loss, vulnerability and individuality. The Courage album was the start of a new Celine era. Is it okay to call it a hit? Or a flop? Its a bit early to predict since the movie hasn't been released, but I would love to know the insight of the more knowledgeable fans.
