Celine’s last GREAT ballad, not “good or okay” but GREAT ballad was “I Surrender” anyone who tells you otherwise shouldn’t be trusted, just saying :)

Lol.

I was realizing that this movie has 5 new songs, comes out 5/5 and this year Céline has turned 55.

Since her lucky number is 5, may it bring a better year than how 2022 was.

It only comes out in America on 5, for the rest of the world it is still 12.

The single is now available in Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio...

That makes me think the full soundtrack will be too...

He was losing his touch. Taking Chances was objectively a mixed bag of an album that did not stand to the "edgy" marketing and he had no pragmatic plan whatsoever for LMBTL. He initially wanted half songs to be old covers. 🥴 He then changed that to an extent only and we got an album that feels like an unfinished project. The intro of Overjoyed is like a time capsule to the past. 😝

I actually have a feeling that Sony didn’t care for the concept and ordered more new songs for the album. I don’t think it was Rene’s choice to change concepts. He was so thrilled about that second Vegas show, as seen on “Three Boys and a New Show.” He probably really wanted to immortalize some of his favorites from the show as studio recordings. Sony was probably like “Meh. Here’s a song from Sia, and we will have a few more on the way for you too.”

I would have loved more songs like Overjoyed, How Do You Keep The Music Playing, etc. instead of the new songs on LMBTL. I always envisioned Celine recording duets albums, Christmas albums, jazz albums, etc. In line with someone like Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Sarah Brightman, etc. But she proved me wrong! I think it would have resonated more with her casual fanbase if she recorded less trendy music and more classics.

From OH to Courage she has recorded few power ballads but I have a problem with all of them. I do not think they are bad but they are far from amazing IMO.

- I Know What Love Is - beautiful melody and vocals but bland lyrics. Musically it could have been taken out any of her mid-90s albums.

- The Reason I Go On. Same as the above.

- Breakaway. Note-to-note copy of the original, she did not add anything new to the song and I do not like how they handled her voice. She sounds thin and like she is pushing some notes. The lyrics are strong but I do not relate. When I decide to leave, I just leave! 😆

- Always Be Your Girl. Worst lyrics out of any ballad she has ever recorded. This song made me hate buttons and sleeves 😝

- The Hard Way is not a power ballad. I know many fans think it is, but I disagree.

That said, I can find amazing soft ballads in all her albums and this is great. Examples would be Stand By Your Side, Je T'aime Encore, In Some Small Way, My Love, Didn't Know Love, Boundaries, For The Lover That I Lost, Perfect Goodbye. ❤️

IKWLI I believe was actually recorded during the sessions for ATW. So you’re pretty spot on there lol.

I wouldn’t say he’s the Kanye blueprint lol. Definitely the ego of an artist though, for sure. But Mr. West is a completely different kind of horrible.

I still think she’s too young by todays standards to foray into the realm of the types of albums you speak of. I wouldn’t have minded if she had done a full album of the Vegas songs though. It would have made sense as a promotional tool. But I still crave new music from Celine. LMBTL was the most current (at the time) song she ever released as a single. It was right on time. And I love the production on most of the new songs on the LMBTL album.

IDK if any anglophone fans actually realize that English is not the most spoken language in the world so in many cases Celine Music is loved mainly because of its melody and dominantly because of Celine’s voice and charisma … I can assure you that lyrics are not that important in most cases.

That was a knock-out track. Made you think she was going in a great direction. I'll never forget sitting in my hotel room in Angers, France watching the Sur les Plaines performance the day it was performed on youtube. I was hooked.

Well, she recorded Mr Paganini...Who knows what more songs are unreleased?

It's a known fact. Even Celine herself stated several times that before she even learned English, she loved singing songs in English without understanding a word. I started listening to her French songs before the Internet became so popular, so I couldn't find a translation, but still enjoyed her voice and music. So yes, instrumental is by far more important than lyrics.

I still remember the rumours that she was going to debut a new single at the show. The more the show progressed and no new song I was a bit disappointed but when she introduced it towards the end and the music started my friends had to pretty much hold me as I just about fell over. Lol

Yes, I agree. Besides LMTL was one of the last additions to the album. That is really telling.

The only aspect of her career that I have a massive problem with is how her records after OH and up until Courage did not have a clear direction. It is as if they were targeting for both older and younger audiences at the same time or they were neglecting one of these audiences in specific instances. To the point where nothing worked. What are songs like 'A Song For You', 'A World To Believe In', 'New Dawn', 'Right Next To The Right One' doing in an album that was marketed as being edgy and pop/rock? What are songs like 'Overjoyed' and 'At Seventeen' doing in album that is supposed to be cool and youthful? How come she delivered what is the epitome of an AC show in 2011 onwards, but wanted to target a younger audience with her music? Point is, she had to stick to one audience IMO rather than trying to navigate in both territories.

The only album that managed to balance out a youthful sound and old covers is ANDHC. Because ANDHC unlike most of her material is a concept album. Therefore songs like 'At Last' and 'Nature Boy' are thematically incorporated and flow nicely. The transition between songs is a smooth one. There is an organic connection. I did not feel this in Taking Chances and Loved Me Back To Life, so it was refreshing to me that Courage was an album with brand new material only, and very clear themes of love, loss, vulnerability and individuality.

if he is relieved that it means that it's an old song and it's finally getting out there. If it was recently recorded he wouldn't have to be relieved it is FINALLY coming out

I think the sound of most of the new songs on the album were pretty cohesive.

Thank You

Unfinished Songs

Even though the album had a mixed bag of producers, there was still a cohesive sound. Which his not always the case when you have too many cooks in the kitchen. “Thankful” is the closest to classic Celine on the album, but it still has an air of modernity to it. “Always Be Your Girl,” while it’s not lyrically something that I can relate to (it’s literally a love letter to her children), she does sound gorgeous on it. I wonder if there are any original tracks that didn’t make it to the album in lieu of the Vegas songs they did include. Would be interesting to know if there were 2 or 3 songs that would have sounded good with the rest of the new ones to make a great completely original album.

He did say “actually” happening, not “finally” happening. He could be alluding to the fact that he just can’t believe his luck on being part of the project.

I do think “One Heart” was pretty consistent in sound, mood and theme. It’s actually quite possibly tied as my third favorite Celine album. From track 1-14, it’s a tried and true pop album. AND it sounded pretty current for 2003. The only song that is mildly out of place, is “Love Is All We Need.” Yet, it somehow still fits and ends on a note that is a perfect segue (for sound’s sake) into the next Max Martin penned “Faith.” The whole album just flows very well and I very rarely skip a track while listening to it.

Interestingly, Craig McConnell (who co-wrote The Chase) responded to this on IG, saying his team also pitched for it, which seems to suggest the song was specifically done for the movie, not a “leftover”.

It came out during a very vulnerable time in my life, and I can relate so many of the songs to that period of time. I love it. Such a nostalgic treasure.

Yes, I agree. And to make it clear I meant to exclude OH from the point I was making, this is why I said ''after OH''. I was referring to the years from 2004 - 2013 specifically. OH is very consistent, very fresh, colourful and youthful. The only thing I dislike is the recycled songs. I would put 'You and I' and 'Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way' in their place. I think they would add so much to it.
