Jay718 Posted January 24, 2020 at 09:35 PM Posted January 24, 2020 at 09:35 PM Yeah, I mean...I don't want photos/video. I was only wondering if Maman was laid to rest and if the services were complete. I respect the privacy of the family during this time. "Je vais bien"...I want to be well? Ah, just googled- "I'm Fine" 1 Quote http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh275/Jay7180/im_13.jpg
Angel2006 Posted January 25, 2020 at 02:07 AM Posted January 25, 2020 at 02:07 AM That's good, I'm glad it will be private. That is how things like this should be in my opinion. Celine doesn't need the media attention during this difficult time, so I'm glad the family is making there mom's funeral as private as they possibly can. RIP Maman Dion You are with the angels now, because that's what you are! 2 Quote
mirage Posted January 25, 2020 at 12:28 PM Posted January 25, 2020 at 12:28 PM Crazy that in 2003 we got images from Adhemar etc and now in these social media times nothing. Quote
Xpresso Posted January 25, 2020 at 01:31 PM Posted January 25, 2020 at 01:31 PM I suspect the funeral hasn't taken place yet. But Maman Dion was quite private so this should be a very low-key affair. Quote
Jay718 Posted February 1, 2020 at 06:17 PM Posted February 1, 2020 at 06:17 PM So, we are to assume the services for Maman have been completed? Was there any official statement confirming she has been laid to rest? Quote http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh275/Jay7180/im_13.jpg

Also, won't Celine be in Montreal doing the makeup shows then? It would make sense, the timing. Why would it only make sense if she was cremated? But yeah it is very late... here in Holland a body has to be buried or cremated between 36 hours and max 6 work days after death... But I guess these rules don't apply to famous/rich people... Céline has a show in Montreal on the 19th and then nothing till the 22nd. So the date makes sense in a way. (It's my birthday tho, so that's kinda weird for me! Chantemoi Posted February 5, 2020 at 09:30 PM Posted February 5, 2020 at 09:30 PM (edited) As a funeral director, I have to chime in here and “lay to rest” some of the speculation.. 1) I sincerely doubt Thérèse was cremated.. Was Adhémar cremated? If yes, then yes; if no, then no. I have NEVER heard of one spouse doing burial, and the other cremation (unless there was a second marriage in between). I’m sure it’s happened, but it would be extremely rare, if not downright odd. Yes, you can be cremated and then buried. Why? It’s cheaper and less wasteful (no casket, no vault, less land used, etc.). Of course, you could argue it’s bad for the environment, but we won’t go there... 2) How devout of a Catholic was she? The Church used to be extremely outspoken about it, but nowadays they are less strict and tolerate cremation (though I don’t know if they will perform a funeral mass or not?). Of course, I’m sure this depends somewhat on local culture and attitudes, which are changing all the time. Typically, older folks (WWII era) are buried. 3) Protocol depends on state/local laws, which vary obviously. Even the individual cemetery where the deceased is to be buried might have certain rules, requirements, or restrictions. Where I live, you can not bury without a permit from local authorities, and you cannot cremate without an additional signature from the coroner. Without looking up Québécois funeral law I can tell you that, with the fame & fortune the Dion family possess, there would be absolutely zero delay in this process. 4) We’ve held bodies at our mortuary for up to a month before they are buried. At that point, the body —even if embalmed— would be unviewable. (Not that they couldnt see her, but she would be so horribly decomposed that it would be a traumatic thing to witness as a family member.) Maybe the Dion family already viewed her shortly after her death and are holding her body at a morgue until the service at a later date? That’s quite plausible... 5) Unless someone has been to the grave and can confirm otherwise, my guess is that Thérèse was already laid to rest, next to Adhémar, in a small, private ceremony. No press, no reporters, mid-concert speech about it... private! I know this is really eating some of you alive to not have answers, but really we ought to move on from this topic until there is actual news to report. scielle Posted February 21, 2020 at 03:14 AM Posted February 21, 2020 at 03:14 AM Here's a piece from La Presse about today's memorial: https://www.lapresse.ca/arts/celebrites/202002/20/01-5261752-un-dernier-au-revoir-a-maman-dion.php She was indeed cremated. All the surviving children were there today, as was Therese's sister Jacqueline.Interesting that they had Alexandra Stréliski's Inscape playing in the background. I must say, I'm surprised Celine didn't close with Ce n'etait q'un reve during these last two shows in Montreal. I thought it would have been a given. 2 Quote
Chantemoi Posted February 21, 2020 at 03:54 AM Posted February 21, 2020 at 03:54 AM (edited) The article from La Presse mentioned that Céline arrived through a side entrance, while the rest of the family showed up in a bus (or possibly multiple buses?). Her sister, Jacqueline, said with a slight smile that she will turn 89 years old in May. Thérèse’s urn was on display among hundreds of white roses, the Medals of honour she had received for her charitable work, and numerous photographs of the family throughout the decades. Attendees had to be confirmed on a guest list made by the family. Once admitted, were each given a card which had lyrics from 2 songs — one of which was « Ce n’était qu’un reve » and the other was a song entitled « Quand », which was co-written by Claudette Dion. Vito Luprano, Josélito Michaud, Sister Angèle, and Julie Snyder were among the notable attendees who paid their respects, as well as certain members of the press. Sister Angèle commented that when she last saw Thérèse, she was suffering from arthritis and told her “I’m ready to die”. Edited February 21, 2020 at 03:57 AM by Chantemoi 1 Quote
