...because Jim Steinman is respected as a songwriter/producer in his own right. Since Céline does not write or produce her own work, she has to be judged by the songwriters and producers she chooses to work with. In her English repertoire, they are on average are bland or "middle-of-the-road" -Jim Steinman being one of the few exceptions because he crafted a specific style.

 

Happy to have him mentioned, but so often online we see critics and the general public try to make Celine a footnote in that song or downplay her role in its success. That's why when I initially read the review and saw his name were the first words mentioned, I rolled my eyes.

Recently we were talking about Celines DVDs and why she doesnt necessarily need Julie Snyder to produce everything for her. Last night I watched Helene Fischers „Wenn alles durchdreht“ concert movie on the German channel ZDF and I was literally blown away by the quality of the production and the way the concert was captured. There were so many nuances that really make it worth buying the DVD. Also the sound was truly unbelievable. For a German star and a concert in Munich, I really haven’t expected that. It was highest world class. It’s really worth checking out. Celine needs a production team just like that! Edited by ryba

Also, wasn't Angela mean to Céline at the Oscars? (I seem to remember Peabo saying as much)

 

All water under the bridge of course. But she's not obligated to post about every celeb she's ever had a connection with. Especially if the encounter was not that positive.

As far as I know, she called Celine "this Canadian singer". She treated her like she was a nobody.

Bryson: What I did not get was when there was a lot of opposition to us doing the Oscars — Céline and I doing the Oscars. Behind-the-scenes stuff that you didn't know; we didn't know until a week, 10 days before the Oscars if it was gonna happen or not. [Angela Lansbury] wanted to sing the song herself. You're a teapot. I'm sorry. Let's be honest, she's a teapot. What's she gonna wear, a teapot outfit out on the stage at the Oscars?

 

In the animation itself, within the structure, it works perfectly. It's OK, you can take liberties vocally in theatre. She took liberties in Sweeney Todd. So hey, great. I'm not mad at you for that, but this is totally different. This is not Sweeney Todd. With her as a teapot, I think it is really appropriate. But there's a difference between singing a song as a teapot, Sweeney Todd, and singing a song at the Oscars that was recorded by two honest-to-goodness great vocalists. And there's a difference between those three things. I mean there's a lot of difference. So to appease her, they let her come out and sing a verse. And then we came out and sang the real version.

 

 

Lansbury: No, I don't [remember discussions regarding who would sing at the Oscars], to be quite truthful. I don't remember there being any altercation on the subject of who would be singing it. They may have been more aware of it than I was. But I just went along for the ride. And, no, I didn't know at the time.

 

Peabo Bryson and I sang it at the same time, we sang it together in L.A. at the Academy Awards. We sang it with the great lady, Canadian singer [Celine Dion]. But of course to reach the broadest possible audience, they put the three of us together singing as a better way to get it launched with the mass audience. And that was the time. I also sang it in Paris at Disneyland in Paris, and that was very exciting, because we were singing with opera singers and God knows what. But it was a huge song. "Tale as old as time." And it is, absolutely, I cherish the song. I think it's so special.

Just because she forgot Céline’s name doesn’t mean she was throwing shade. She even called her a lady. Do these sound like the words of an egomaniac?

Angela Lansbury was a saint and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. :lmao:

 

If one just reads the Wikipedia page about the song, they would know that Ashman and Menken offered it to Angela first, who was initially reluctant to take it because she was self-conscious about how her voice had aged. But… agreed to sing a demo (a one-take recording that made it to the soundtrack à la MHWGO) just in case they couldn’t find a different singer/actress for the part —as she hadn’t yet even accepted the part of Mrs. Potts. So it seems obvious to me that a.) they probably did write the song with her in mind, and b.) she wasn’t so high on her horse to think that she was exclusively entitled to it.

 

And frankly, we’ve known all along that Céline and Peabo were brought in by to milk that song for every penny it was worth, and that’s exactly what they did.

 

According to Wikipedia: “Disney first recruited solely Dion to record a radio-friendly version of it in order to promote the film. However, the studio was concerned that the then-newcomer would not attract a large enough audience in the United States on her own, so they hired the more prominent Bryson to be her duet partner.“

I agree with you. I didn't actually knew who Angela was till recently, but if the story of how she was rude with Celine is based solely on Peabo's words, I wouldn't trust it.

 

It just doesn't make any sense. Angela wouldn't be powerful enough inside Disney to the point of causing a delay in the preparation to Oscars because of her wishes. She was just one voice in the animated movie.

 

It's more believable to think that Disney's heads, the ones in control, were trying to reach a bigger audience. The scene with the teapot singing was big deal but radios were eating up the pop version with Celine and Peabo. In other hand, Angela was a big name and Celine was barely know at that point. So, they might have chosen put them all together to draw attention from different audiences. From the way Peabo speaks, that decision might have hurt his feelings, as he probably saw himself as the star of the night, specially with Celine being still unknown for most.

It's a crazy rumour that was started on a blind gossip site.

It’s actually discusting this women made this s*** up and in the comment section she says she has no clue what’s happening to celine and its pathetic that some people who watch these videos believe this crap. Are people that bored and need attention i challenged the women in the comment section and was blocked right away so she clearly knows the truth but just wants people to view her videos to be popular
