scielle Posted November 7, 2021 at 04:29 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 04:29 PM (edited) Album release specials are becoming popular again. “Popular “? Who else is doing it? It’s only a thing because CBS knows Adele can bring in a prime time audience, just like Céline could in her commercial prime. Given her last album had the biggest Billboard drop in the chart’s history, I hate to break it to you but a prime time broadcast network album launch is not gonna happen. One of them is Helene Fischer, one of the most successful singers and performers in Europe. I see your point with Celine though, but she could do an album special and make a cd/dvd release of it for the fans to purchase and stream. It doesn't have to be about one tv network and a prime time audience percentage on one particular evening. Edited November 7, 2021 at 05:08 PM by ryba
Dancing_Queen Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:02 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:02 PM I agree having those type of specials is pretty dated. It would still make sense for her to do them in France and Québec for her french albums though.Céline is one of the biggest stars in the french speaking world (much bigger than she is in the rest of the world, relatively speaking). I'm pretty sure her shows would still do extremely well in prime time.
mirage Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:11 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:11 PM I get Celine vibes with this Adele special. Though I also think that if they really put effort in a special and interview it would definitely work. “Popular “? Who else is doing it? ryba Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:28 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 06:28 PM It would definitely work for Celine if she used the premiere of her new show at Resorts World and blended it together with an album release special and a big afterparty for the fans. This special could be televised or produced for Apple music etc. for streaming and digital download, each performance could be used as a music video. It would be a great project and a one night only event. Then she would perform her regular Vegas show, so the fans who would stream or purchase the album special on DVD would still get to see a different show with her hits in Vegas. Wouldn't that be a great idea? 1

Wouldn't that be a great idea? I don’t know. I personally feel like the days of Celine doing things like that are long gone. They did do that weird Courage Tour announcement event (8 months before the tour) and I get the sense it didn’t go over very well. I think we’re just going to get her performing live (if we’re lucky) from here on out. Nothing particularly special or ground-breaking. Maybe once she’s too old to tour?

I don't think we'll ever get something like a TV special again. But, hypothetically, if she were to do one I do think it would bring in ratings. She may not be as big a commercial seller (albums) as she was in her prime but she still attracts crowds with her live performances. She could easily turn crowds into TV viewership imo. About the tour launch event. The time and day they chose for it was so bad. 1
ryba Posted November 7, 2021 at 08:21 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 08:21 PM (edited) What was wrong with the tour launch event? I think it was carried out very well. The idea and concept alone, along with the live stream was great! Edited November 7, 2021 at 08:22 PM by ryba
couldawouldashoulda Posted November 7, 2021 at 10:50 PM Posted November 7, 2021 at 10:50 PM The tour launch was too early - way too many months before the tour. She hadn't even left Vegas yet. Then she spent 15 minutes telling that stupid Ryan Reynolds story. My husband got embarrassed and had to leave the room and he never came back. Then the Q&A portion was weird - it was like Celine was angry with the people asking the questions. That whole thing was just an epic fail, imo. It'd be interesting to see if she could get ratings for a TV special these days. She's enough of a legacy act that it's possible. It's just that no legacy act has done one recently - Cher, Barbra, Madonna - has Mariah done a TV special? It's just not something that's done these days. Maybe Adele will bring it back!
PuraVida Posted November 8, 2021 at 01:00 AM Posted November 8, 2021 at 01:00 AM I think Celine could still bring in the ratings. Even if it's not #1 in the ratings, it would still be profitable and a worthwhile investment. The issue is, you can't just be lazy and throw Celine in a random LA or NYC theatre. That is why having Adele do her special in a picturesque outdoor location with celebrities also invited was suc a great idea. Central Park or outside the Eiffel Tower, or some awesome outdoor amphitheatre. 2
jpatdeleon09 Posted November 8, 2021 at 01:10 AM Posted November 8, 2021 at 01:10 AM (edited) That last CBS show she did (back in 2013 or 2014?) was bad. It’s so cheap and no energy at all compared to the 2008 version. This type of special should be really special. Make it like your doing a big production tour Edited November 8, 2021 at 01:11 AM by jpatdeleon09 1

The theater chosen was really beautiful inside, and not to mention fans got to see her perform and had the opportunity to ask her questions in person all for free. The downside was that she did it on a weekday and in the middle of the day, and didn't promote it much (not even on her social media)which resulted in not a lot of people watching it live. Totally agree that a TV special today would draw way more viewers if it were done on a special location. Paris, Quebec, London, NY, etc. And there'd need to be plenty of promotion. Didn't Andrea Bocelli do a TV concert recently? Or was it streamed live?

Didn't Andrea Bocelli do a TV concert recently? Or was it streamed live? I wasn't talking about the Ace Theatre event. I was talking about TV/CBS specials. And, yes, since Celine isn't as commercially dominant as she once was, you need to add an X factor on these TV specials. I would argue you should do it for any artist to make people watch. Lady Gaga did something at the Carnegie Theatre, but the X factor was the high fashion, the jazz component and big live jazz band, and the fact it was centered around Tony Bennett and his farewell and their musical relationship. The Ace Theatre event needed to be at a different time, and also ideally she would've sang different songs. But it was a step in the right direction for Team Celine. The time of day, and it was way too soon before the album--and possibly the tour, I don't recall. Edited November 8, 2021 at 02:04 AM by PuraVida
ryba Posted November 8, 2021 at 05:54 AM Posted November 8, 2021 at 05:54 AM If you consider how many people saw Celine live in Vegas in the last two decades and that the interest in her grew tremendously in the last couple of years, I’m sure she would deliver great tv ratings, because people didn’t get to see her for a long time now 2

ryba Posted November 12, 2021 at 09:25 PM Posted November 12, 2021 at 09:25 PM (edited) She met her and they showed a picture of both of them! Looking at Celines style, it looked like it was around 2018. Same look like during the Asia summer tour. Helene said that she gave Celine her Farbenspiel photo book from 2015 as a gift. And you know what? When I saw Celines London Hyde Park concert pics, I immediately thought of Helenes Tour pics, cause they were so similar! Now I know that she got inspired by Helene! It’s so cool since Celine has been her big idol since she was a little girl. Edited November 12, 2021 at 09:27 PM by ryba 1

ryba Posted November 12, 2021 at 09:38 PM Posted November 12, 2021 at 09:38 PM I must say that I really admire Helene for what she has accomplished as an artist. And I can absolutely see the Celine inspiration in her career. She totally shaped her. Have you seen the tv special? They re-arranged her new songs and played them live with a fantastic band. The songs sounded so rich and great live. I wish Celine would do the same. The band and the arrangements made such a difference!

Celine should do a duet special on television and invite all her fave singers.I know that Helene would love to, but I think that Celine is too big of a superstar to agree to do a duet with her. We see how exclusive Celine is. If she chooses to do a duet at all, it would probably be an international singer like Adele. The only hope I see for that to happen is when Celine comes to tour in Germany and there might be a collaboration with Helene for the sake of promoting Celines concerts in Germany. Helene is huge in Germany and it would be great promo. 2

It doesn't matter that he is only famous in a few countries.
