In French, the word "club" is pronounced exactly like in English. Is it a thing from Québec to pronounce it with a ü sound? That sounds funny. Céline looks happy and healthy.

NV, and Clark County in particular, being slow with their count and Celine jokes abound!

In related thoughts, it still feels so strange for RC to be old enough to vote. Hope he did!

Yes it is. It's pronounced the way u is usually pronounced in French. Why do French people say it the English way? :D

Do you say "la pub" (for publicité), or la peub as you pronounce club?

No but "pub" is short for "publicité" that's why we pronounce it with a ü sound. But when we refer to "pub" (public house), we pronounce it exactly like in English. "Club" is an English word so we pronounce it like in English.

It's interesting and surprising that the Quebecoise are the ones sticking to traditional French pronunciation haha.

There are several examples where the French are more anglicized than the Québécois.

One good one is the word “parking” which is the same in France but not in Quebec, where it’s “stationnement”. What’s interesting is that when it comes to the verb “to park”, it’s the other way around: “se garer” in France, “se parquer” in Quebec. Same with the word “shopping” which is more common in France.

Why is Celine always so concerned with (not) sounding pretentious? Edited by PuraVida

Why is Celine always so concerned with (not) sounding pretentious?

she always was. But by saying "I hope I don't sound pretentious" she kind of already does or implies it

But I asked why. I don’t think I’ve heard another human being use the word “pretentious” more than her

She obiously tries to appear very modest all the time. However, I think it isn't always sincere, but rather an image concern

Why?

Let’s just say we should all live our lives in such a way that millions of people don’t dance in the streets when we lose our job!

Kamala used the line in her speech, too, and many have been using it since yesterday.

I don't remember her using the word so much in the 90s.

Not that surprising when surrounded by a sea of English language. It's defense mechanism! :D

Se stationner (to park) is also used in Quebec. The Celine Forum has taken a linguistic turn! ;) Edited by Xpresso

Unfortunately I don't understand a thing but the part where he is doing the opera part is cracking me up.

The attention to detail is amazing because she actually did that exact singing outburst "She loves you yeah yeah yeah!" :sofunny:

It’s been said many times that the playback Céline uses for the big note in “All by Myself” comes from the first show in Pretoria, and that it was one of two times she sang it live on the TCWT.

Here’s a relatively good quality video of Céline hitting the note in Pretoria on 16 Feb 2008:

To me, it still looks lipped.

how do they know that it was performed live back then? Maybe these are the new playbacks?

Which was the second time in your view? When she was sick during the Phoenix show?

No. We know that she performed it live in Johannesburg on opening night and I’ve heard many people say that the second night of the tour (16 Feb) in Pretoria was also live and that they used that version as the playback for the following shows, the same one she uses today.

However, from the video I posted above, I get the impression that it’s lipped.

Of course we can never be certain but I’m 99% sure that opening night in Johannesburg was live:

The performance in Pretoria (considered live by some) seems lipped:
