Balao Posted November 5, 2020 at 10:51 PM Posted November 5, 2020 at 10:51 PM In French, the word "club" is pronounced exactly like in English. Is it a thing from Québec to pronounce it with a ü sound? That sounds funny. Céline looks happy and healthy.

Why do French people say it the English way? Do you say "la pub" (for publicité), or la peub as you pronounce club? 1

Balao Posted November 7, 2020 at 02:29 PM Posted November 7, 2020 at 02:29 PM Yes it is. It's pronounced the way u is usually pronounced in French. Why do French people say it the English way? Do you say "la pub" (for publicité), or la peub as you pronounce club? No but "pub" is short for "publicité" that's why we pronounce it with a ü sound. But when we refer to "pub" (public house), we pronounce it exactly like in English. "Club" is an English word so we pronounce it like in English. 1

There are several examples where the French are more anglicized than the Québécois. One good one is the word “parking” which is the same in France but not in Quebec, where it’s “stationnement”. What’s interesting is that when it comes to the verb “to park”, it’s the other way around: “se garer” in France, “se parquer” in Quebec. Same with the word “shopping” which is more common in France. ryba Posted November 8, 2020 at 09:56 AM Posted November 8, 2020 at 09:56 AM Why is Celine always so concerned with (not) sounding pretentious?she always was. But by saying "I hope I don't sound pretentious" she kind of already does or implies it
PuraVida Posted November 8, 2020 at 11:22 AM Posted November 8, 2020 at 11:22 AM she always was. But by saying "I hope I don't sound pretentious" she kind of already does or implies it But I asked why. I don’t think I’ve heard another human being use the word “pretentious” more than her

However, I think it isn't always sincere, but rather an image concern 2

Céline RO Posted November 9, 2020 at 04:54 PM Posted November 9, 2020 at 04:54 PM It’s been said many times that the playback Céline uses for the big note in “All by Myself” comes from the first show in Pretoria, and that it was one of two times she sang it live on the TCWT. Here’s a relatively good quality video of Céline hitting the note in Pretoria on 16 Feb 2008: To me, it still looks lipped. The best is yet to come...

Céline RO Posted November 9, 2020 at 09:01 PM Posted November 9, 2020 at 09:01 PM Which was the second time in your view? When she was sick during the Phoenix show? No. We know that she performed it live in Johannesburg on opening night and I’ve heard many people say that the second night of the tour (16 Feb) in Pretoria was also live and that they used that version as the playback for the following shows, the same one she uses today. However, from the video I posted above, I get the impression that it’s lipped. The best is yet to come...

Of course we can never be certain but I’m 99% sure that opening night in Johannesburg was live: The performance in Pretoria (considered live by some) seems lipped: The best is yet to come...
