Why did they move her to Columbia, an extension of Sony within the last few years?

Does it matter? Columbia, Epic, and 550 music are all the same within Sony Music, depending on where you live in the world they release it under a different division. Rene renegotiated the contract in 1999/2000, it is supposed to be one of the best negotiated contracts within the Sony Music/BMG group.

I damn well hope so. They've really messed up on some major issues over the past few years. Don't even get me started on the Taking Chances single releases....

When Darren and I did the interview with Sony UK they cleared this up stating that whatever division you are on within Sony Music (Columbia, Epic, 550 etc) it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. You still get the same support etc etc so yeah it doesn't really matter.

Yes, it just depends on the country and also the style of the artist. But in the end, its Sony Music

Does anyone know if Celine will be at the oscars this year? Or even better if she'll be performing?

Seeing that the Oscars are this Sunday and this hasn't been brought up yet, I woulda take that as a "no". Don't expect an appearance let along a performance.

Maybe if James Cameron (or whoever) asked her to do the theme song for ''Avatar'' instead of Leona Lewis... :P

By the way, was that song nominated?

Yeah for some insane reason Leona / Syco decided not to release as a single the song from the biggest grossing movie of all time.

And we talk about poor marketing decisions for Celine!?!??!!!

Leona prefered to promote her album, so she didn't want to promote "I See You" cause the song wasn't on her album!

i don't think Leona has decided...it's more about the record company SYCO.

if they picked wrong choices for celine, they did something worse to Leona..i'm sorry but i'am afraid she's going to fail!

and it's a pity 'cause i really love her

The missed Nomination is outrageous!

They even made a video of the song but still no single Cd!

at least celine produces singles and not videos..

I'm not buying that. The song could've easily been added to a "special edition" of the album.

Regardless of the reasons however there's no doubting a huge chance was missed here.

oh right  James Horner is only nominated for the Music in Avatar (original Score)

People are upset I see you isnt nominated? Its crap! I wish it wasnt in the movie! 1) It sounds like a My heart will go one wannabe, 2) even if it was a good song a love ballad over the credits on a action movie about 10 foot tall blue catlike aliens is just a stupid idea. It was nominated for a golden globe but didnt win there, so most probably it was entered into the academy awards but didnt get a nomination.

:hmm: Is Randy Newman nominated each year or what? It's seems like this man had a song nominated for the past 20 years or more.

"I see you" is a weak song anyway. She promoting it wouldn't do any difference. People didn't like it. The music video was made and not played anywhere too. So...

if Celine didnt go to the Oympics after it was reported that she was "repeatively asked" , then i dont think she'll go to the Oscars. Edited by Selina286

So on yesterday's Jeopardy the category was "Rolling Stone's 20 most annoying songs" and the question (or whatever you want to call it) was

Maybe it would have been better if this Oscar winning song from a 1997 movie froze to death in the Atlantic as well.

booo.

So I'm making mp4s of all Celine's old TV performances to put on my ipod and I started with ''Rosie O'Donnell''. Can somebody tell me if I have all her performances on that show:

It's All Coming Back To Me Now (1996)

Seduces Me (1996)

My Heart Will Go On (1997)

Let's Talk About Love (1998)

That's The Way It Is (1999)

A New Day Has Come (2002)

To Love You More (?)

The Magic of Christmas Day and Another Year Has Gone By...

I have all those and these two so if you need files let me know.

I have my doubts on this. :hmm: I know it's all Sony at the end of the day but...I remember when Céline went to 550 Music for instance, she was like their first or main artist and everyone was dedicated to take care of Céline's career primarily. They loved her and believed in her so much and were very much dedicated to bring her to hights never before reached. These days all those guys that loved her and worked so hard for and with Céline are gone from this Label I think. For instance, I think they have fired everyone in Canada and there is not a single person left that have been there a while. All the new ones that followed are focusing more on new acts and I think Céilne is like a brand that sells enough for them wihtout having to invest too much or do much work. I don't think she has that much people today on this label that have long and strong relationship anymore with them(Céline&René). If I'm not mistaken I think René deals with US executives only for North America now.

These days it's all about new and short term it seems. But maybe things will change for this upcoming decade, as they(new ones) probably got to meet her during this tour and aren't blind to her superstar attraction to the world(and of course for them to the money that may come with it). Who knows? Than again, she's the greatest earner of the last decade and they've done close to nothing for her carreer I find so...

Right now they still go with the flow, for "fashionable acts" :whistling: more than enduring acts like Céline, they go for more short term acts and singers. Anyway most labels (like the biz) are still up side down and trying to find their place in today's new market... where and on what as label they can focus on to still earn money and be effective today with internet and all. I don't think Sony does everything they should for Céline and her career imo. That's how I feel about them these days. That's too bad!

I was very shocked and proud that Sony Pictures decided to release this great documentary of Céline. On this one I salute Sony, Sony Pictures that is! ;)
