This is really random:

I keep rewinding "La Promessee Casse" from the "Sur les Plaines" DVD. There's just something about the way Celine sings that song.

Side Note: I lost a good friend today  He was in remission from lukemia but was suffering from constant infections. RIP Kevin

Just reviewed some of the pictures over the past few months and Ms. Dion has been in NYC on October 14th, November 14th and now December 14th :xmas_wink:

Thank you all for your sympathy. Just left his wife. So sad. He was only 37. She's 32 with a new baby (they adopted). Makes me think of Celine and Rene and how she took care of him when he was sick. My friend's wife has stood by him for five years as he has endured this cancer and its aftermath. It takes a strong woman. After seeing all that my friend's wife has done/gone through, it makes me understand even more when Celine speaks about priorities changing and not taking life for granted and "meeting life". She s a strong woman and I applaud them both for their selflessness.

I don't know if this info has been posted but what exactly is "La Promessee Cassee" about? A couple of days before my friend died, I kept hearing this song, before I'd go to bed, in my sleep. Sometimes I'd wake with this song playing in my head.

My favorite parts: Starting at :36, :56, 1:03, 1:20, 1:44

The vocal passion. At one point, it's like she's in a different place. She's so into it. There's just something about her presentation and I keep getting drawn back to it.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. It is so difficult to stand by and watch someone battle for their life. I know that from experience since I lost my husband to Cancer, most recently lost my mother to Cancer, and now my brother's Cancer has returned and unfortunately his tumor cannot be removed.

Again, so sorry for your loss and just want to say CANCER SUCKS! Please forgive me for shouting.

ok so i just was thinking about this..

when celine was in vegas.. and when she did the show the night her dad had passed away...they always show the clip of her singing "what a wonderful world" because she sang it live. But i'm curious as to what happened during "The power of love", the songs that we all know were lipped or the songs that are "partially" live. Cause during the clip of "what a wonderful world" she basically talks through the song, because of the emotion, and thats emotion you can't deny. Ya know? It would be interesting to see how she was during the lipped parts of the show.

That's a good point actually. Does anyone know what sort of order the songs were performed in? I wonder when 'wonderful world' was performed because she tells the audience the sad news just before this song it seems. Did she perform others songs before then wonderful world ? hmmm :ermm:

That's not true. Watch the video again and you should see that she is wearing a different outfit in WAWW then she is when she tells the audience.

My guess is that she told the audience after Nature Boy (first song), or maybe before that.....WAWW was the last song of the night.

Thats what i wanna know. She tell them in the red dress, which is the first outfit... so i wanna know what she acted like during the entire show.

Bubba I couldn't have said it better, you are right cancer does suck. I've lost three family members to cancer and two had the same type. My mother and aunt, her sister suffered from the same cancer Lymphoma but different types of it and I found out last winter my uncle had the same type my aunt passed away from. He is still recovering and battling the cancer but is doing well. I also had a grandfather pass away from cancer but I do not know what kind. Just from looking at genetics and chance it's not looking good that I won't develop the same type of cancer later in life.

fyoung and Bubba my deepest sympathies to you both, I understand how you feel. The 23rd of December will mark 7 years since my mom passed away from Lymphoma it was the day after her birthday and as you know that made it two days before Christmas.

This is so sad, I am so sorry for your loss. I think having this song might be a spark to help you through this time and honor your friend. I don't know whether you have the mp3 of it or not, but if not, just PM me and I'll be happy to give you the version I ripped from the DVD

here are the lyrics:

Où es-tu mon cher ami?

Ça fait des jours et des nuits que je t’attends,

Et les nuits sont longues.

Ici, c’est pitié de voir,

L’aigle aux grandes ailes d’ivoire

Qui tourne, et qui reconnaît plus son monde.

Là sur l’eau, nos vies cassées en mille morceaux,

C’est tout ce qu’il nous reste,

Les milles morceaux de ta promesse.

T’as juré la main sur un livre

Qu’on vivrait heureux et libre et fier,

Debout sur nos terres.

Mais, on est là sur le trottoir,

Des âmes blanches, des âmes noires,

Qui espèrent dans la même prière.

Noé, emmène- moi,

Loin d'ici

Aussi loin, que tu pourras.

Translation:

Where are you my dear friend?

I've waited day and night for you,

and the nights are long.

It's pitiful to see here,

The eagle with great ivory wings

Who runs, and who recognizes his world.

There on the water, our lives are broken into a thousand pieces

That's all that remains of us,

A thousand pieces of your promise.

You've sworn, hand over book

That we'd live happily and free and proud

Standing on our land.

But they're there on the sidewalk,

White souls, black souls

Dream with the same prayer.

Noah, take me,

Far from here

As far as you can.

Tyler you will probably like this question: When Celine started performing again in December last year after she had that respiratory infection, she changed some of the belts to ''holy sh#t'' high notes (like in ''River Deep Mountain High'' ) in Phoenix and Los Angeles. So I've been wondering if she did it because it was less painful than it would have been if she sang it like she usually does (considering she just had an infection)? Because to me the notes in Phoenix and LA sound more difficult to hit. Or am I wrong?

So sorry for your loss first of all.

About the song...to me the meaning I get from it is that it's about a couple that got a divorce. La promesse Casee means literally The Broken Promise.

I translate the promise to "marriage" so that line where they say

Nos vies cassees en mille morceaux

Our lives shattered into a thousand pieces

C'est tout c'est qu'il nous reste. Les mille morceaux de ta promesse

It's all that we have left. The thousand pieces of your promise.

There...

And I think the passion Celine puts into the song has to do a lot too with the fact that it's Zaccary Richard one of the most important singers in Quebec that she's singing with.

If you watched the way he introduces the song, and talks about Katrina hurricaine, and Celine's brave statement on Larry King you'll see what I mean.

Also in the rehearsals you can see how Celine tells him "I think about you frequently" and well later on it lead to them doing the duet Acadian Driftwood.

So definetely a very important moment in Celine's carreer...very emotional...and one that she only lived once but she'll remember for a lifetime

An angel was looking through,

It was you,

Yeah you...it's

I've actually wondered that same thing myself... I think the regular F5 is in mixed voice (?).....and the Bb5 was in head voice....when I'm sick and try to sing my chest voice is terrible. I can't hold notes even close to as long as before, and I can't raise or lower my voice at all. While my head voice isn't much better, I do find it easier to sing from that then I do my chest. Another thing, I can't really whistle much, but when I was sick I was whistling like Mariah...it was effortless and just came out.....now I'm not sick and it's really hard to do that.
