Javito Posted November 20, 2018 at 04:58 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 04:58 PM This Spanish website says that they're very shocked that "Ashes" has not been submitted. https://www.ecartele...pelicula-50599/ Indeed, I see up to 15 (FIFTEEN) different categories submitted for the movie, including best original soundtrack, best sound editing, best sound mixing, BUT best original song indeed If someone still doubts Céline needs so bad to leave Sony Music because simply and precisely there's people working very hard in her own business home for her music to go completely unnoticed everywhere since 2003, this is the ultimate proof All sorts of categories and nominations submitted, but the original song Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
CelineTheBest5 Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:07 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:07 PM its all "bought", manipulated. They dont respect her as an artist, but when they needed her to marketing they asked her...Thats why i dont give a credit for any award anymore, they only nominate young,s***, talentess artists. 2 Quote https://www.facebook...linedionbrazil/
Xpresso Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:09 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:09 PM (edited) Is this a Sony or Century Fox problem?? Ashes is probably the most chances Deadpool has and they don't submit it!!?? Edited November 20, 2018 at 05:09 PM by Xpresso Quote

Bóól'át'í Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:24 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:24 PM It’s the movie’s distributor that’s responsible for Oscar submissions. In this case, it’s Fox. The record label has nothing to do with Oscar submissions. 1 Quote

Xpresso Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:30 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:30 PM That's also what I thought. Maybe Fox doesn't want to promote a Sony artist??? What a shame really. Quote
Dancing_Queen Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:34 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:34 PM Is this official though? (Seems like a fan site, so could be an oversight?)And if it is official, was there a disqualifying reason? I don't really understand why they would submit HDAMLF last year and not do so with Ashes, that's just madness? Quote
Xpresso Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:44 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 05:44 PM Original songs could be submitted until Nov. 15, 5:00 PM. Could Ashes be viewed as a non-original song maybe, and wouldn't qualify?? Quote
SuperLove4Celine Posted November 20, 2018 at 06:57 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 06:57 PM LOL - Why does this surprise anyone here? It’s typical of how her music is handled. Oh, but she sure made time to make sure the clothing crap was handled well. 5 Quote
Xpresso Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:00 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:00 PM What, do you think Céline can tell Fox how to handle their submissions?? 1 Quote
joaofilho Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:01 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:01 PM I think that's why it was closed in the CNN interview. But there is nothing to do with clothes, they are decisions that we do not know.I hope that Celine gives more value to his music next year, that comes with new projects and partnerships and does not eat the same thing that has been done. joaofilho Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:03 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 07:03 PM They were saying that the only song to topple Lady Gaga in the Oscar was Celine's Ashes, that's all there is, surely Lady Gaga manipulated. Quote

The song might not be considered as eligible indeed unfortunately. Oscar rules: Rule 15. B. Original Song: An original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits. https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/91aa_rules.pdf My understanding was that the song was original but not specifically written for the movie, but chosen for the movie (but not clear for me). Hence, it may not meet the criteria for nomination... 2 Quote

maki_Dion-er Posted November 20, 2018 at 08:52 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 08:52 PM not surprised unfortunately. I don't think it's a conspiracy against Celine, not by fox or Sony anyway. The Academy? Maybe. I doubt they'd be happy to have the song of a movie like Deadpool win over oscar darling A Star is Born. And "Ashes" is, imo (& other articles by the looks of it), "Shallow" biggest competition. Quote
SuperLove4Celine Posted November 20, 2018 at 08:55 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 08:55 PM What, do you think Céline can tell Fox how to handle their submissions?? If she had better people handling her career/legacy, they would have pushed harder and succeeded at getting the song nominated. Instead, it was better to put energy into a clothing line. Whatever. What a joke. 3 Quote
Nmj Posted November 20, 2018 at 09:03 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 09:03 PM I’m in awe... I never expected “Ashes” to win because the industry seems to not respect her enough for whatever reason, but HOW do you not nominate a successful song from one of the most success movies of the year for an Oscar? Makes no sense, if this song didn’t get at least a nomination; I don’t know how Celine stands a chance to ever win again. 1 Quote

And weren't the opening credits "audible, intelligible and substantive" enough? You might be right. For example I do not remember if Diane Warren specifically wrote Because you love me for Up close and personal, or convinced Jon Avnet to use her song.I am not sure how to think about this article: https://www.huffingt...4b0a372181b43c8 Otherwise, do you know songs that were not written for a movie that but still made the cut for the nominations? Nmj Posted November 20, 2018 at 10:04 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 10:04 PM (edited) Possible silver lining ; Maybe she’ll cut that Ryan Renyolds speech to 5 minutes and use that extra half hour to sing a couple more songs now lol Edited November 20, 2018 at 10:15 PM by Nmj 3 Quote
Daysleeper Posted November 20, 2018 at 10:06 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 10:06 PM (edited) Perhaps they created new rules for the original song submission after 1997. Because I'm quite sure that Because Loved Me wasn't written exclusively for the film. Edited November 20, 2018 at 10:08 PM by Daysleeper Quote
Xpresso Posted November 20, 2018 at 11:27 PM Posted November 20, 2018 at 11:27 PM Just a reminder that we are talking about the movie distributor submitting the song for the nomination process (and not the actual nominations). And I'm not sure a manager would have enough power to influence the distributor. Quote
smw Posted November 21, 2018 at 12:41 AM Posted November 21, 2018 at 12:41 AM Regardless — Ashes was a wonderful success for Celine’s English career. Her biggest English song in YEARS. That’s something to celebrate. Perhaps she can attend the Oscars anyways. Who knows! Red carpet fashion often get just as much buzz as winners / nominees these days. And I’m still hoping for an epic duet as her first English single off the new album.... Like Celine / Adele performing at the Grammys. 😍 2 Quote

pat200 Posted November 21, 2018 at 01:56 AM Posted November 21, 2018 at 01:56 AM Could it be that Fox is a conservative network, and Celine with her support of LGBT+ rights and now the gender neutral clothing line, is anything but conservative? Quote
