Law just posted on IG a screenshot of an interview he did for a magazine. They asked how often he is in vegas and he said 3x/month for a couple days b/c they are going to be introducing some new gowns into her vegas show. So looks like more changes are coming.

Ok so just got to the airport, waiting for my flight back to NY so finally have some time to write my reviews of the last two shows!

First of all, the new gold opening dress is STUNNING in person. Absolutely gorgeous, probably one of the best things she's worn throughout the entire residency. Beautiful design, and it fits her perfectly. Extremely flattering as well.

Second, this hair style suits her very well. She has it styled over one shoulder when she comes out for Paganini, and it looks so classy and elegant.

A couple of merch things (for those who care lol): they have a couple of new hoodies (the grey one with the "old" Céline logo and "The Show Must Go On" printed on the back that was sold during the summer tour, and a black one with the new Céline logo and "The Colosseum at Caesars Palace" on the back), two new hats (Grey with the old logo and "Vegas" on the side, and a black one that has "Céline Dion" bedazzled in silver stones on the front in the EUS font), a new mug, and they're selling lanyards with the show date printed on them. Additionally, (and a lot of people aren't going to like this), but they have new T-shirts printed with the set list on the back... which means that it is likely that the show will stay like this at least through April... will post some pics when I get home and unpacked!

She was definitely "on" both nights. A little more playful on Saturday... probably since it's her last show for a while.

A couple of glitches during "I Surrender" on Friday. When the intro started, it sounded like she was testing her mic, because you briefly heard her say something before the red curtain opened. Then, when the curtain dropped, it either got stuck, or someone forgot to pull it off, because it just laid on the stage for about 10 seconds before it was pulled off.

Her opening speech has been shortened a bit. She doesn't tell the whole story about going home this summer to see her mom, etc. like she was doing in the fall.

Also a funny moment on Saturday, she was mid-speech and then she looked off stage and said "My microphone just went out, is everything ok?" We could still hear her, but I guess her monitors went out. "Can you hear me? Hello? hello?" And then she launched into the first verse and chorus of "Cheap Thrills" which Dominique, Kaven, Elise, Dawn, and Barnev joined in on. Crowd loved it! On Friday night, she joked with Barnev about his diamond earring and sang a little of "Shine Bright Like a Diamond" and also "Chandelier."

On Saturday before the medley, her nose was running, and so she asked for a tissue. The woman sitting two seats away from me (who could NOT have been more annoying and drunk), got up and handed her a tissue. Céline then said, "I figured I had two options. Ask for a tissue or..." and then she started singing "Let it go... Let it go... can't hold back anymore". So cute!

Some additional changes I noticed/general comments:

There are two new screens on the stage. Large screens on either side. These are different than the two large screens that are off the stage. These two are covering up part of the LED screen, and I can't really see what their purpose is, as they are showing the same images that the LED screen would show. Maybe they plan on using them for something else down the line, but they seemed kinda out of place.

For everyone wondering, the entire show is not broadcast on the side screens. The only time I saw Céline on there was during TSMGO. Sorry, I couldn't get any pictures because I was in the pit lol

During the interlude before Paganini, the horn section no longer walks through the audience. They appear on stage, and Dawn/Elise are no longer part of that segment.

The Bee Gees are no longer shown on the screen during "Immortality."

The "Uptown Funk" medley is slightly different, they've added a bit more instrumental to the beginning. Since it comes directly after MHWGO and the water feature platform needs to be reset, the curtain closes, and Dawn, Elise, Kaven, Barnev, come out in front of the curtain to start the medley and the curtain opens during "We Are Family." Honestly, in my opinion, the big red curtain closes too many times during the show now in order to accommodate stage changes, and the interludes. Makes the show seem a bit choppy, and like there is a lot of "downtime."

"Purple Rain" visuals are different, and have a "rain" effect, also. I think they're using more purple lighting. Overall, it's a really amazing effect and looks incredible. The videos don't do it justice.

Highlight of the show is "Immortality" in my opinion. Vocally, I love what she does with it now, and it's always been one of my favorites. I hope she doesn't cut this one any time soon. She also seems to really like singing it. I'm glad that it's no longer a walk through the audience song, because it's one of her more understated ballads, and deserves its moment to shine.

I know some people disagree with me on this, but I've come to the conclusion that "I Surrender" is the perfect opener to this show. I know others have said IWYTNM or TYLAM, but I just think there's something about "Surrender" that so fits the show, and the new dress, and the curtain drop. I could literally listen to her sing that song forever and not get sick of it lol. She's also changed up how she sings the opening verse a bit and I'm loving it.

They do make "The Show Must Go On" like a bit of an Encore. She leaves the stage after LCMM/RDMH and comes back when TSMGO starts. It's a shame that they've scrapped the interlude that Scott put together around the time of the 1000th show because they could've found a way to add it in here.

I was skeptical about the new placement of MHWGO, but I think it works. I'm glad it's no longer the last song of the show. I hope during the summer tour, they move it somewhere into the middle (kinda like how they put PQTME towards the beginning of the show during this past tour).

I keep saying that she should cut Paganini, but then I see the show and I love it lol. And she seems to really enjoy it, and the crowd does too.

I don't understand why they cut down the ending of ABM after "the note." It's not like it makes or breaks the show length...

I know that there are mixed feelings on here about it, but the audiences actually really seem to love "Incredible."

She kinda pokes fun at "Quand ça balance"... saying "Well, that was different" after the song...

Ok, that's it for now I think. I have audio of both shows... Saturday came out good... just need to check Friday's and will post both later this week. I had to hide my iPod in a merch bag so that it didn't get stepped on when everyone ran to the pit, haha so need to check sound quality.

:)

Last run : 6/12 shows sold out.

Almost 48000 tickets sold out of a bit more than 50.000.

So so so impressive... more than 1000 shows and still those huge numbers and sold out shows. It's out of this world... but who is going? 😄

So for this next run starting in April... are we predicting the show to change ahead of her European (and devastatingly not Australian) Tour, or to keep things the same and then afterwards overhaul it completely with her new album which I bet doesn't drop until November...

I doubt it will change until then new album comes out... and they will probably only add one or two songs. Maybe removing "Recovering" and adding the new song from BATB.

When is the current show with the Orechestra supposed to end? Do we know? I loved the current show, but I think it's time to end and take like 6 months off to create a brand new show, I'd love something with a concept like how AND was but different of course. Now that she isn't doing nearly as many shows as with AND there's no reason she couldn't handle a physcially more demanding show and still have great vocals. I love a Céline concert for a tour but for Vegas I feel like I'm ready for a big production once again that leaves you breathless. I'm still scratching my head because if I didn't know better you would think her first LV show was the current one and AND came later in life because they seem to really just not give a crap compared with AND on Lighting, Staging, and using the beautiful screen and what the theatre has to offer. Shania took advantage with her show of that as it was BEAUTIFUL live but Céline hasn't really. Maybe the Orechestra got in the way.

That's because the focus of this current show has always been the music. Nothing more, nothing less.

The current show actually does have a concept/theme. It is the big orchestra. They have always touted the 31-piece orchestra when promoting the show. The problem is, unlike with "A New Day...," they (Ken, Celine, whomever) never fully embraced this concept to its fullest. Songs such as "To Love You More," "Prayer" (from "A New Day Has Come") and "Fade Away," to name just a few, scream to be brought to stage with an orchestra. My God, also "Refuse To Dance." Remember this line?

"I never even knew the song the ORCHESTRA was playing..."

Honestly, even though the show would have been filled to the gills with covers, I would have taken the Hollywood movies show over the current one in a heartbeat. At least its theme and concept would have been strong and hard to mess up. Plus, we would have had a damn good chance of FINALLY getting to hear and see "Then You Look At Me" performed live. I'll be ecstatic when "Celine" is over and done with, and a new show is created. "Celine" has always come across to me like an uninspired mess with no clear direction.

Yes, but an orchestra falls under "focus on music". ;) It enhances the sound, the music (as opposed to visual aspects and other show elements like dancers or props).

Btw, frankly...having seen the "old" Celine show and the new version: the orchestra under direction of Scott is doing a much better job than with Mego.

I enjoy "just the music" with the orchestra, but I would like to see more of a SHOW. I love her singing, obviously, but you come to be entertained and that includes a show. Like someone before me stated, a little AND and a little CELINE. Mix the two ideas a little more effectively and you would have a great show that is also entertaining.

Yeah Scott is doing an amazing job!

But I wish they would use the orchestra to the fullest, or give her songs a real orchestral makeover

I LOVED A New Day. I saw it 5 times and every time I was amazed and I really want to see that show again.

For the current show, I saw it 3 times and I don't miss it like I do with A New Day. I mean I'd love to sit and listen to Céline perform every day on stage but there is nothing pulling me back to Las Vegas right now.

I'd rather see a concert 3 times in Paris (costs a fortune!!) than travel for 18 hours to Las Vegas and see the show again :(

With all due respect, but Shania's show put to shame any performance of Céline's show. Shania's show was completely mind-boggling and spectacular, they literally filled the stage with the most dynamic use of dancing, music, props and moving sets, to the point that it was hard where to focus on the stage because any corner was full of action. Not to mention that Shania knew how to make the most of that huge LED screen, shooting videos and creating little movies specifically created for this show and featuring her on the screen... yeah, exactly the same Céline did right? :whistling:

Sorry but Shania's Vegas show with only 2 years' residency and one hundred shows just put Céline's show to blame. She really knows how to put on a good show and take advantage of a stage like that, something that Céline's team not fully learnt to use during A New Day and are failing big time to use during the new show. And I'm not blaming Céline, particularly on the first show since it was mostly conceived and created by Franco Dragone, but Dragone's visions and artistic conceptions may be quite questionable after watching Shania's show and all she offered using that same stage.

Btw, was Franco Dragone's ideas restrained at some point? Remember those giraffes that never were used? He was always more on the theatrical side of the thing and Céline came demanding the band to come up to the stage with her because they were not visible... Whatever happened, but they didn't clearly make the most of that theatrical show and in the end the possibilities were reduced and limited to the minimum.

Anyway, Shania achieved to do in Vegas with only one show all what Céline did with "A New Day" (2003) and "Céline" (2011) combined and much much more :bye1:

AMEN. "Celine" show in its current form is wasting that stage and all the possibilities and potential it can offer. They did not make the most of it during the first show, and in my opinion they went backwards with the concept of this new residency. All the same, she still sells tickets and fills the house. I find that amazing lol

The 31-piece orchestra isn't there anymore -- Aldo cut about half the musicians when he took over - very much a shame.

I for one actually love this show so much more than AND. They were trying too hard with AND, with all the fantastical stuff -it just seemed to me to be way over the top and way too much going on.

I love the simplicity of Celine singing amazing music. I saw the show in person in 2013 -- they do make use of a lot of the lighting and effects (like the WHMYBN multiple screens, the waterfall, the holograms, back in the day -- but it is all done to enhance the music. In AND, all the other stuff just seemed distracting.

i thought "Celine" was amazing. And she doesn't seem to have any problem selling tickets, year after year -- I think she's doing something right :) And f you compare the opening day setlist in 2011 to the current setlist -- I'd guess that probably 60-70% of the songs are different now.

PQTME was not yet part of the set list when I went in 2006. When I saw the AND DVD screening when they had it in movie theaters here in the US, I remember getting so emotional when I watched her perform this. This may be one of the best filmed songs of the entire DVD. The arrangement is gorgeous and everything around the song on stage is pure magic. Absolutely breathtaking performance.

Even this... this is already looked amazing! The Visuals, Lightings... maybe in her recent shows they forgot that they had this kind of different lightings or maybe because it will not give justice with a black stage. It will work well with gray/silver stage like in A New Day

It's not really "fair" to compare the show. As Shania has always been more of a entertainer and her concerts have always been more of a show (with dancers, a very active band, pyro), where Céline's concerts were always (except for AND and the TC tour) just that, concerts.... with an emphasis on the music. And this was also the case for Shania's residency in Vegas and for Céline's current show. With the announcement of the orchestra years ago, they made it clear it would be all about the music. So that's just that.

Also, it has always been René's opinion to have the focus on Céline without many distractions (even from small things as microphone cases). Maybe this will change when there's a new Vegas show.

Hey - I'm all up for a more visual type of show; something in between the current show and AND, but this is just how it is currently. And really Javito....you HAVE to have seen the show to really form an opinion, it's just not the same if you haven't. Just like watching AND from a DVD player and having actually seen the show. Or watching a movie or just keep reading reviews about it. Also simple as that.

Well, watching Shania's concert is something that makes me feel wanting to go there and see that show, right from the first couple of songs. Watching Céline's DVD didn't give me that straight feeling sorry. I know that had I been to an A New Day show, I wouldn't probably have regretted, but still, you watch Shania's show and you think -wow, that's a show worth to watch because it has everything on it :)
