Celine (Las Vegas show) [ends: June 8th, 2019] - Official topic

Most of her uptempo songs have failed scandalously when they have been brought to the stage to be performed live. Don't know the reason but Mego and her old band had always a problem when it came to live performances of her uptempo songs. The only song I can recall that it was defended with dignity and on a par to the album version was I'm Alive, and only in counted times (in the 2002 Divas Las Vegas and La Fureur performances).

That's The Way It Is, Eyes On Me... I don't even want to remember that one :wtf:

They did pretty good with "Dans un autre monde" and "J'irai où tu iras."

I really hope she does TTWII with a new full, rich arrangement, something to get people clapping and singing- it was popular and it's such a happy song and so Classic Céline.

And in a key that she can really blast.

I agree in regards to the English uptempo songs... The French ones they got right for the most part.

I must've blocked out the live versions of TTWII, because they were pretty darn awful. "Declaration of Love" was also pretty bad... always felt like it was stuck in the mud and never really had much power. Oh and THLAL was ughhh lol

True!!

But somehow her more modern/uptempo songs when performed live they lack power.

Lord FA was horrible during TCWT, rather had her playback that song haha.

Now she has the hornsection and I must say they give a lot of more power to her songs. Funny that for most of her career she didn't use them.

I LOVE TTWII, but I've never liked her live performance of it. So who knows what Scott can do with this song.

His job last summer tour was amazing, subtle small changes but so magical!

I found "Shadow Of Love" to be worse live than "Fade Away," "Eyes On Me" and "That's The Way It Is" combined. That song had so much promise for the stage, and...well, yeah. LOL

Always liked the performance of TTWII from World Children's Day concert.

I think that was the exception to all the performances of "That's The Way It Is." I guess the one on Rosie's show wasn't too bad either, but the song just needs lots and lots of "uumph" to be executed properly onstage.

Yes uptempo songs with Mego didn't let Celine sing in the right key! I think that's the main reason she sounded nasal on TCWT!

I still feel that the orchestra/band is a great thing but for some songs they need some backing from the studio! It would work wonders for some songs... whenever Celine has sang live to an instrumental, she has always sounded much better! The song sounded much better and she tries more to sound like the studio...

Hope I'm not on my own with this...

They always managed to turn any up-tempo song into a mid-tempo song (and a mid-tempo one even slower)....

Instrument-wise, they were also very old-fashioned. Every album since ANDHC used more "electronic" sounds, they should've made live arrangements similar to that, with drum pads etc.

For the life of me, I will never understand why "Shadow Of Love" remained throughout the entirety of the "Taking Chances World Tour," yet a song with lots of energy ("Can't Fight The Feelin'") was cut/only performed in select territories.

That's the problem, she won't be able to sing it in its original key today anymore, with the deep tone of voice she has acquired in the last years

I don't even understand still how they managed to keep this song during the whole tour, with such poor execution of its live performance. And I will say more: for starters, the song is badly produced from the start, in the album. Ther'e's too much noise in the song, they used and abused a lot of the background vocals, to the point that listening this song to maximum volume can make of it a real nightmare, sorry  And I say this coming from a fan that loves this album and most of her uptempo songs.

Bingo. How they didn't keep CFTF as a regular and did so for Shadow of Love, which sounded as crap live, is something that is beyond understanding. Shall we call the X-Files agents?

For uptempo song they should use the studio version instrumentals because it's more alive than the live band/orchestra.. This sounds weak, boring, maybe the lower key? Loved me back to life keeps popping in my head vegas version the background instrumental really doesn't sound great. If she'll sing incredible it's best to use the studio version.

With FA her vocals were not the problem so her playbacking the song instead would still not have done anything better for the arrangement.

The only thing I'd say about her vocals is this song didn't even make it to europe before it declined from its peak....after that second show in Africa she never went for ALL those notes like that. Still, celine was fine on this one.

In my opinion if there was a song where her voice truly made a weak arrangement weaker it was shadow of love. She made the last minute of the 2 minute butchered song into an intro for lcmm and therefore the song didn't really have any kind of climax.

There were also some better tracks that should've been included from "Taking Chances"... "Surprise Surprise" and "This Time," just to name a couple.

I love the album version of "Shadow of Love." I think the arrangement is quite breathtaking actually. Still sounds fresh to my ears. And I love the melody. It reminds me a little bit of another song, and it makes me feel nostalgic.

"Fade Away" love it as well...but so poorly executed on stage.

I was also going to mention the World Children's Day performance of "TTWII" as it is my favorite of any other time she sang it. But let's be honest...David Foster was responsible for that.

I wholeheartedly agree that Mego was a downer when it came to the uptempo songs. His arrangements sucked the life out of them. And God forbid a song being on the verge of sounding dated, his arrangements would also scale them back by at least 10 years. I wouldn't say I'm happy he lost his job, but I'm certainly not mad about his replacement.

True. May I add to your post that she should sing This Time at a special event during the worldwide day agains domestic violence. How come she hasn't done it yet? She knows that the song can help many abused people but then she doesn't make the most of it?

LOL - I mentioned this a while back, and got attacked for proposing such a horrid idea. That people didn't want her doing such things.

I remember you came up with the idea a few months ago just after posting my message . I 100% agree with you on this, and find it extremely estrange that she hasn't done it. It's in her power!

In my opinion, it is just a filler song. Nothing special with the melody.

people stay positive she got a new band, and they seems to know how to make music

this is the best video to prove that her band knows

- how to play

- how to feel the audience

- how to folow the singer

This is so staged.

First time they didn't do anything (her band) later on it became part of the show

Maybe they expected it the second night but how would it be staged? I love that spontaneity and wish it would happen in Vegas!
