Of course, stuffed the song into almost two decades of live performances and people relate the song to Celine. My point being time to give other songs that spotlight.

 

Yeah they can do that but it’s not a bad song! Both young and older fans love the song

Yeah, but with Céline beginning this exciting new and different chapter in her [musical] life, it's time to say goodbye to some songs (and to make room for different ones).

And IMO that includes RDHM, LCMM, BATB, TR and ABM. And she has to do something different with TPOL, BYLM and IACBTMN.

 

The Reason? She lipped it for 3 years and yet revitalised it and sings it live and slays it with a capital S! The Reason isnt even close to the level of the others in terms of performance

 

BATB introduced her to Anglo markets world wide, so i cant see that happening ever and ABM is up in the echelons with IACBTMN and TPOL. It was a meme and now goes down as one of the most iconic climaxes of a song in pop music history... so again i cant see that lol

It's (practically) a given she'll be doing MHWGO, TPOL, BYLM, IACBTMN, Ashes, ABM, LCMM, RDHM, BATB and PQTME. Then there's songs like IA, TTWII and IDAN. That leaves room for "just" 7-10 other songs (providing she's doing 20 for the tour), of which about 5-6 will be from the new album.

 

I'd much prefer to finally hear a song like 'Miles To Go' or 'I Love You' live, than to hear TR or BATB again (which both are fantastic songs yes, but again; she has more fantastic songs she has never done live).

As would I, however there is a 0.000001% chance of that happening. Songs that deeply buried in her repertoire may be buried forever. Even if we enjoy those songs, it could very possibly be the case maybe Celine looks back and cringes at them, or maybe doesnt like the vibe anymore... or more likely forgets they even existed lol

 

Might i add, as with HDAMLF... i have a feeling ashes wont last much longer, but dont quote me on that lol

Imo theres a difference between uptempos and ballads. Not to mention it was almost certainly scott who remined her of their existence, so imo, unless he or the glam squad shows her anything, shes not gonna know. But I certainly get where youre coming from

They can put it back to sleep. Plus , it was known in 5 markets and was a hit in 2. The rest of the world had their own version.

 

I don't see any reason to keep it.

 

Nobody is complaining about "D'amour ou d'amitié" not sung for 2 decades on her french shows while it was one of her biggest hits.

BATB has overstayed it’s welcome... so has LCMM and RDMH. I understand the other songs like TPOL, BYLM, IACMBTN, ABM and MHWGO... those are must haves whether we like it or not however there is others that can go and won’t be the end of the universe for the people going to the show.

Loved the treatment Refuse to Dance got on tour but Love Is All We Need was a lackluster performance got it's chance and didn't work at all, it was the bathroom break interlude. If there's space, it's time for Did you give enough love.

Beauty and the Beast was not performed for 9 years, she was in AND which was hardly the place for BATB.

 

And incorrect, BATB was a Top 20 hit in over 11 different charts in 8 different countries, was a top 40 hit in 3 more and appeared on 5 end of year charts too. Hardly a local hit

 

And Damour ou Damitie charted only in France and Quebec, and only hit #5 as a peak in France. Whilst it sold 700,000 copies, that’s nothing in comparison to almost any french song released between 1992 and 1998, it was outsold by nearly 75,000 copies by Sous Les Vent...

 

We could go on and on forever, but BATB always gets crowd reaction going, same as RDMH, difference is, BATB was a hit in multiple countries and is still known well today

I’ve been following her career for 23 years and I’m telling you that RDMH is NOT a hit song for Celine. If anything people know it because it’s been stuffed down our throats for years on end. People also like uptempo period that’s why they go nuts, swop out RDMH for the uptempo “ I Drove All Night” which actually is a hit song and people wouldn’t miss it. It’s kinda ridiculous when Celine has performed this Tina song more often that Tina.

 

RDMH has a much higher energy than IDAN. People enjoy it, it’s become a staple. Something that people talk about.

I don't mind TPOL, but I will never understand how anyone could ever like BYLM.

I think people need to remember that for most of the people in the audience it's their very first time seeing Celine live. They've never gotten a chance to hear her perform any of those classic songs and that's really the reason they bought the ticket. So, we may want to see her retire the songs she's performed a billion times, but others still want to hear them.

We have been having these discussions about the same set list for years. It’s the same debate over and over. She will always have to do those core songs. I understand and except it now. I will not stop following her because of it, too much time invested by me to stop now. Plus I do not want to Lol!

She plays us like a fiddle. She throws us a bone every once in a blue moon and I, and for the most part, we eat it up!

I’m anxious to see what she meant by “it’s not going to be Vegas” for London and the tour.

Guys, I really do not understand the people who are questioning the logic of recording the current show for dvd release when we have the Asia concert. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the Asia show broadcast on TV in a relatively small number of countries? And never released on DVD?

 

The massive majority of Celine fans have not seen the Asia concert, so it will be new to them. And those who did see it on tv probably only saw it once, so would buy a DVD with the same setlist to relive it.

 

The general public (non super fans) are the target audience here.

I also agree, but at least BYLM has more potential to be a special song (for lovers, parents/siblings, weddings, funerals, etc.). I just don’t see that for TPOL.

 

Maybe, instead of BYLM she could just do the whole “sing this last phrase with me” routine and skip the rest of the song! That would free up an extra 4 minutes for something else! 😂

 

 

Has anyone ever run a poll for “SONGS WE WANT CÉLINE TO RETIRE”?

The Reason got a major revival for me last year. I never thought it worked well on the stage but boy was I wrong! She totally owned it last year, making it the best performance of the tour quality wise together with the "acoustic medly". Those performances were miles above the rest of the show and I wish her concerts would lean more in the way of this from now on.

Considering cutting the standards I wouldn't mind BATB being cut. I get it got its revival due to the new motion picture. But that's over now.

 

BYLM I wouldn't miss at all but who am I fooling, they'll never cut that out. Maybe it could recieve an "acoustic treatment" to make a revival for us who've heard it a gazillion times?

 

TPOL can never be cut in my opinion. For me it's her second most important song after MHWGO. And guys remember the lovely 2017 intro? 😍 I do wish she'd do it all live though. Maybe the key could be lowered and the length be shortned?

 

RDMH is frankly a must keep. She doesn't have many (any) uptempo standards so it's well needed in the set list. Besides it's amazing how timeless it is. Basically the same arrangements work since the 90ies.

 

LCMM now this is another question. I do get that she clings to the few uptempo tracks she has but come one.... come on, really? If it must stay the arrangements MUST be undertaken some serious make over. I kinda liked the way it sounded during the TC era (same goes for IA).

 

ABM is hard to cut. It's timeless. Even after all this time it's still perfect. Pure perfection.
