Wanna talk about no chemistry then we have to say Ellen. Every time she’s been on I had hoped it gets better but it doesn’t lol. I watch the show a lot and I can tell Ellen doesn’t care for Celine’s humor and vis versa.

 

WORST chemistry ever. If she could avoid Ellen and her atrocious show I wouldn’t mind.

According to the ET piece on TV just now:

1) She wanted to jump off the boat and into the fountain!

2) She was asked to be part of the very first Carpool Karaoke, but turned it down at the time because Rene was sick.

 

Why didn't they let her? lol. That or she could have casually pushed James off a floating door, "there's no room, I'm so sorry."

She loves physical humor.

 

So when I see this episode, all I see is a tired workaholic who was dragged out of bed on her only day off to ride in a tight car and listen to her own songs she sings every night. And then on top of that they invaded the only sanctuary she thought was safe - her shoe closet. I would be furious too...

I mean the lack of chemistry between Celine and James is just absolutely stunning. The awkwardness and the tension is mind blowing...

But I'm a little uncomfortable with how she's portrayed here because this isn't the "raw and unapologetic" Celine we "rarely get to see". This just ISN'T Celine at all

 

I'm 99% sure Celine must have known about the shoes bit and was most likely in on it. She probably chose the shoes she was willing to part ways with but ofc during the bit she has to act like she's super surprised, she has to sell. Making us believe she was heartbroken just shows how good an actress she is. She wasn't furious, she was even laughing at time (I know laughing can sometimes be a coping mechanism under uncomfortable situations but I don't think it's the case here).

 

The day off comment was a joke. She did this along with Kimmel, and the LA event in the same week. They made sure to schedule everything together to get it out of the way in one sitting.

 

Celine and James had great chemistry, they fed off of each other really well and she seemed very at ease imo. As mentioned already, pretending to be uninterested is a thing she likes to do when made to do these singing games. During Jimmy Fallon she annoyed him by not singing until he flat out told her to just press the button, then she laughed and mocked him. This is just part of her sense of humor, it can sometimes be sort of dry and not everyone understands it.

 

There's no portraying her here, this is her.

 

I think Celine does not like to be made fun of.

 

I partially agree.

No one likes being made fun of in a malicious way or in a manner that makes you uncomfortable but Celine has been known to poke fun at herself. As long as she is in with the joke or a harmless joke about her then I think she doesn't mind.

I just watched it again tonight and im still laughing ! I think the chemistry was good in between her and James... and I agree that she really looked surprised by the shoe thing... she appeared very natural in her reactions... whether she knew about it or not it was really funny! Lol

I just wanna say that I would never have thought a few years ago that Celine would ever become cool again... I mean not as much cool and respected as she is now. This is absolutely amazing. In a way, I always wished for it and im so glad to see that this is happening again...even more than when she was very popular and selling albums by millions. It reached another level... the Icon level I guess. Im so happy for her. Cant wait for her new album and cant wait to see the reaction/impact all over the world with it and her new tour!!!

This was hilarious. She has always been a fabulous comedic actress (and I’m sure much of this is acting — no way those were really her shoes; the ABM segment was clearly 100% planned but still hilarious). Dropping the Titanic necklace had me hysterical. And Celine cursing and saying she needs alcohol? Much more relaxed than she used to be.

 

But WTF was the story about RC’s birth??? Was she making something up trying to be funny? RCs birth was not announced by a doctor on TV! Unless it was some sort of internal hospital TV. Even then, that would be an insane HIPAA violation that would probably cost a doctor their license. Unless she consented, which seems doubtful. . . That part was just reallly weird.

 

She may have misremembered the timeline a little but I clearly remember doctors doing a press conference outside the hospital “Palms West” announcing RC’s birth. I may have seen it on local tv as that’s the area I live but it happened. But I think it was a couple hours after he was born.

Didn't we read a tweet or ig comment somewhere shortly after the carpool segment was filmed, that one of the girls who got Celine shoes said she later found out the shoes she got aren't really those expensive high end shoes? It was like in the range of $100+. Well, $100+ is still not cheap for many of us of course, but not in the range that Celine shoes are usually worth.

Does anyone understand why she chooses to skip the wig for important public appearances like this? Or the Aretha tribute.

 

She must be aware she looks younger and overall better (most people would probably agree) with the longer hair. And I get she likes fashion and can do whatever she wants -- but the blue suit was kind of weird / not advantageous =/

 

There have been many good examples in recent years, and it's crazy how she can go from looking like this one day...

Yes, I agree. I wish she looked like in that short video where they introduced Flying on My Own. So young and fresh!

 

Apart from her look, I LOVED this episode. Her singing, her conversations, her humor. Well done!

I understand why you think the way you do, but I have to say, I think you're wildly incorrect about the whole ordeal. I don't believe they actually "raided" her shoe closet. If I had to bet, those are duplicates, really old/barely worn shoes, or just purchased from a local store. It was an act, and it was so obviously an act (as every Carpool Karaoke is). It's also important to note that this is a different time than when "prime" Celine used to do interviews and shows. She's done the normal interviews, this was her chance to get out of the box that the media, public, and WE have put her in. It might note be "Celine" at all, but that's because this is a brand new era.. it's been over ten years since she's toured North America or even released an entire English album, and a LOT of things have changed in the media since then. She's just adapting and being uniquely herself. I think this is definitely well-rehearsed and well-presented, working in the media myself, and her chemistry with James Corden is outstandingly similar to his chemistry with other artists on Carpool Karaoke, if not better. (I'd say the chemistry with Adele was better, but Celine was definitely top.) Like I said, I understand why you think she comes off as overworked - that's understandable - but look at what she's come out of the past 5 years alone... the death of family members, the end of a way-too-long and overdone residency in Vegas... She's ready for something new, and it shows in this Carpool Karaoke. She's not letting the little things get to her - hence the swearing - and I think that's great.

Btw the part where Celine talks about the doctor James immediately told the Instagram video thing - he said he instagrammed lived. Instead of live. than the shot where Celine look like.. What?? - that was all part of their sketch. the whole carpool karaoke is a sketch! The shoes part - of course they did not invade her shoecloset and those were just random shoes! They had to find something to make a joke with and Celine is pretty good in acting here.

also of course - Celine did not have a day off blabla - all staged. You can especially hear it when Celine gets in the car. It was rehearsed what to say by the director. it is like hearing her rehearsed Vegas or tour Jokes. Of course there were some unexpected moments like her random singing songs in the start of the interview.

Plus, she looked tired because of her bad makeup and together with the bun it made her look even thinner in the face because when you take a selfie or just look straight into the camera your face looks more narrow. The position of the maincamera in the car did the same to her face.

that and the makeup plus bun made her look older and unflattering imo. And that is one thing i do not get: this is a moment that will be on youtube forever - would you not look at your best then instead of wearing this outfit, this hairdo.. This overall look?

We have seen that before at the live in Québec Sur Le Plaines show where she had very grey makeup on her eyes that gave her a very tired look.

 

anyway - bottomline of the carpook karaoke - it is a sketch with some unexpected and mostly scripped parts.Do not take it too seriously
