Alright, because I have far too much time on my hands and when I come up with an idea I tend to run with it... I introduce to you the Throwback Tour. There are some notable problems with the set-list, mainly that SA, D'Elles, and 1F4T are not represented... but I was focusing on her older repertoire. I also tried to be realistic.. we all know they will never cut LCMM/RDMH. Also.. I really, really, really want to see her rock some acid-wash jeans and a leather jacket.

I love your ideas. It would be fun if she wore wigs that reflected the eras as well!

I always thought this would work very well as a Vegas show concept. Similar to a Cher show where she often revisits certain eras and their iconic looks, Celine could easily wear wigs and recreate her many different looks from each era from 1990 - the present day. Obviously they can skip 2003 lol

I love your ideas! I especially love the blue dress and the black and red outfit. But that blue dress would work so well on her. Great ideas!

This move is equivalent to adding an 11th Montreal show. The full capacity of Centre Bell for a concert with an end stage is 15000 people, which is the same number of seats they're adding over the 10 show run. They are increasing the capacity by 10% each night, which means this 'new stage configuration' is going to involve either a 3 sided stage, with people sitting in the blocks either side (further back towards the rear of the stage than usual), or they will have to open up the blocks directly behind the stage, meaning people will be facing Celine's back for most of the night. This may also have implications with the big central screen they usually use in her end-stage shows.

It may look very similar to the set-up used in the Australian TCWT shows:

I think they could still add more dates in Montreal if everything they're selling now will be sold out by the time the single is released

Well they can't add any shows afterwards due to the Quebec City dates, and then Vegas in September. I don't think she should add any before the current start date in Montreal because with the new Paris dates she only has 3 weeks break in between the two legs of the tour.

It's clear that they don't intend on adding any more, this is why they have chosen to increase the capacity at the 10 shows already scheduled, which doesn't happen very often.

I wonder if they're gonna somehow make the stage shorter or something? They've probably opened up the blocks to the side of the stage or the nosebleed section above the stage? Who knows. But this seems interesting!

I would wonder if it's another show in the round - or is that impossible with the floor seats?

I am actually wondering the same thing. But something tells me no because they won't have a in the round stage for one tour stop, I think. They'd wanna use the same stage for all stops?

Moral of the story: Celine needs a mini-residency in Quebec!

An annual, standing 2-4 week thing in Montreal. And not just for the locals. Montreal is a great tourist city in the summer.

Seriously, I think it would work very well and here's why:

  • She can probably easily sell out 10-20 shows on an annual basis, if not more. Certainly more if it's a more intimate venue.
  • There's a huge fan base out there that would love to see her live but a) can't afford a trip to Vegas, or b ) isn't particularly interested in Vegas because they're francophone and/ or far more in love with Celine's French catalogue (I'm definitely in that camp even though I'm primarily anglophone)
  • It's not really touring. It's home. No need to live out of suitcases and on planes. She can still set up a home base for a month or so, be with her family.
  • She can do it during the summer when the kids are off of school / hockey / etc. & Vegas is unbearably hot so nobody wants to be there anyway.
  • Montreal is amazing in the summer, it's basically a non-stop street party with festivals galore. Just for Laughs, Jazz Fest, FrancoFolies, Circus Fest... it goes on and on and so much of it is free and all happening in a a very walkable Quartier des Spectacles downtown. Plus with the circus culture there (not just Cirque du Soleil, but Cirque Eloize, 7 doigts de la main, National Circus School, Cavalia), their street artists are some of the best in the world. It's an awesome city - cheap and happening! Great art and music scene. Great food. And a little slice of Europe in North America. Tourists could make a great vacation of it outside of just seeing Celine.
  • I think a lot of fans from all over the world would be just as interested in making a trip to see her there as they would be in going to Vegas (If not more so! Much nicer vacation and way cheaper!)
  • Most importantly, I think Celine would really enjoy it. Montreal audiences are unlike any other. She's got history there. People who've followed her since she was a kid. There's so much love for her there (remember all those people linking up in the bitter cold outside Notre Dame two months ago?) It would be so much different and more meaningful than a Vegas show.

So many sold-out shows! With no new music. Just an announcement of the upcoming concerts.

Celine has really passed the test of time, I'm happy that people still show so much support when she decides to tour...! Proves she is more than a Vegas act.

That's a really good point. I sometimes wonder if I'm too blinded from reality because I'm such a die-hard fan, I mean the word "obsession" is just the tip of the iceberg for me (hehe I couldn't resist!), that maybe she isn't as amazing as I think she is. But if you think about all the other acts in Vegas (j.lo, Britney, Mariah), I doubt they could sell out arenas in mere minutes without new music to entice their fans.

Céline really has stood the test of time, and I think we're witnessing the "second coming" of her career. I hate to say it but I think Rene's death was the catalyst that set it in motion. Her strength throughout the whole ordeal brought her so much positive publicity. I'm sure he's just beaming with pride up in heaven :in_love:

I think you're very right on that front.

Plus I genuinely believe there's a huge hunger out there for French shows - let's not forget Sans attendre sold pretty much the same volumes as Loved Me Back to Life.

And there's now an entire crop of new artists that are citing her as an influence and introducing her to an entire new generation. More are recognizing her impact on shaping today's pop music.

The critical tide is definitely turning, too, and people who previously dismissed her are now willing to have another listen.

Is there any chance that they decide to make a stage in the center?

I think its the first time she will ever tour in Mtl at Bell center (molson center) without a center stage. Right?

I doubt they would invest the money for an in-the-round stage. The lighting rig, and screens and everything having to be underneath the stage and all that, it's a much more labor intensive set-up. But at the same time, she pretty much booked those arenas for many dates so it wouldn't as difficult and expensive as her past central stages. I highly doubt they would invest the money in it simply because it's a short tour with no new music, and if she does do Asia next year, I'm sure she'll use the cheap end stages they always use except for Japan. Pretty sure it's all Solotech rentals. They do elaborate staging all the time (like Toruk, Cirque's latest arena show) and I'd be surprised if they don't have the necessary gear readily available; doubt much incremental investment would be required.

I think she should add a few more stops in the tour. I say she also visit Poland, Switzerland, and South Korea. “Sans Attendre” did well in those countries with no poromotion, went Gold and charted in the top 10. I say maybe 2 shows in Switzerland, 2 shows in Poland, and 1 show in South Korea. That'll total 30 shows and gives her chance experiment with appropriate songs for each respective country success wise.

With her english album next year, I suggest releasing her album in spring, have a world tour from spring to fall, and then either release a Vegas DVD, a new Christmas Album, or return to performing in Vegas for the rest of the year. Personally, I wish she'd end the vegas gig after this year and focus on her music.

The Falling Into You tour went to the Molson Center (now Bell Center), so there was an end stage used there :thumbsup2:

I don't think they will use a centre stage for these Montreal shows, as they have already sold the floor seats and I'm sure they cannot accommodate all these people on the floor with a stage in the middle. Also, it will be very complicated as people who have bought tickets will expect to be in a certain row etc.

Just listening to the AND...LILV CD and blubbing to Je T'Aime Encore

I believe that we love truly- deeply, only once in a lifetime. A love, so deep, that it grows stronger every day, despite the disappearance of the loved one. It is entitled, Je T'Aime Encore- I love you still.

What a song for her now. Quand je danse...

Thought the same recently

I never thought of Je T'aime Encore as being about someone who'd died . .I always thought of it as a breakup song. But thinking about the lyrics . . .I guess it really does work for someone who's passed away too. Puts it in a whole different light.

I think she'll find another love. I think she has it in her to let her heart open up again. I hope she finds another with time. :)

I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.
Posted

It's hard to predict the future. I don't think she will have another love like Rene . .an all-consuming love of her life . . I think Rene will remain the love of her life forever, even if he is not physically with her.

But I do think she'll eventually have another companion/partner . .someone to love and share her life with in that way. . .that's what I wish for her, one day, when she's ready - maybe when her children are older.

David Foster's words to her at the Celebration of Life really resonated with me: "There is much more love and light to come into your life in ways that you can't even imagine right now . . ."
