I was there last night and the show was amazing. It was so emotional and personal. She received many standing ovations and was quite moved at times and spoke from her heart. She looks and sounds fantastic. She closed with "Over the Rainbow", as you all know, and you could hear a pin drop. Everyone became so silent during that song, it was really an incredible moment. This was my first time seeing her and I am so happy! Thank you for posting the audio as well

Thanks for the Purple Rain vid. It seems as if she has gotten away from the "Vegas Show" per se and it's more like a concert. Like back to basics. I have never gotten to see her live, just watched the youtube vid's. I finally get to see her Sunday and I cannot wait! Thanks to everyone for posting their views from last night, audio's and pics. I stayed up late and refreshed my butt off, lol. The vibe here was awesome. As far as the dresses, I could care less what she wears maybe because I have never seen her live, but I think she would look good in a Walmart bag! So for me it doesn't matter. The setlist sounds awesome as well, but again, she could sing whatever she sings in the shower and I would die a happy person.

All right, after a good night's sleep, I'm ready to review last night's show. And I'm really upset to see so many people complaining about the setlist. She was absolutely phenomenal last night and I felt like she has done so much especially for the fans. They listened to us about the acoustic medley, bringing back songs like IS, TTWII, ANDHC, different duets, and surprising us with MHWGO live and putting in better covers. This show, in my opinion, is much superior to the previous show, in which it appeases both fans (with rare songs and the acoustic medley) and the general public (with the backup singers singing MJ songs and Uptown Funk to Celine herself singing Prince and Queen. Anyway, on with the review.

 

The intro video really, really touched me, to see so many fans come together to help out with Celine's new show and to support Rene. I started crying at the end of the video because I was really touched by the video. There were so many familiar faces and so many amazing ideas. It was a perfect way to introduce this show.

 

When I started hearing the opening notes to I Surrender, I started screaming and clapping and crying even more than before. Once the curtain opened, there was Celine, in a beautiful sparkling silver dress, she looked absolutely stunning and received such a large ovation. Every time she reached the chorus and a new verse, she would receive another standing ovation. And they found the perfect place, right at the first chorus, to do the curtain drop again, which even though I saw two years ago, was still amazing. She then gave such a heartfelt speech that just didn't feel scripted at all and I could tell that she was already putting all her emotion to this one show. We went "back to the beginning" with Where Does My Heart Beat Now, which didn't have the Jay Leno intro, but the panels of Celine throughout the years were still there. We moved onto Because You Loved Me, which just sounded even more personal than ever before. The chandelier wasn't used for this song (hint: it was used later) like previous years. Next was the medley of It's All Coming Back to Me Now and The Power of Love, which I believe was live last night (I may be mistaken about that, but some parts sounded different to me than before). The arrangement to the medley was one of the noticeable differences to me because the bridge in between the two songs sounded very different than before. I thought that the medley might be going into a different song, but it was still The Power of Love. The stage was different for he medley, where there were a lot of candles/lights that came down from the ceiling that just illuminated the stage and was absolutely beautiful.

 

When Celine walked off to change, the brass section of the orchestra and Elise and Dawn were out in the audience performing Sing, Sing, Sing, the latter two were dancing. I really enjoyed this part since we had just played this piece in my school orchestra as well! And then Celine came out in a custard yellow dress and started singing Mr. Paganini, which I really loved because it sounded sooooo much freer and jazzier. Her phrasing in the song is different than before and I think she's having even more fun with this song than before. Then, she moved onto the French song, Quand ça Balance, which was sounded very interesting and different, but I feel that a lot of people were unfamiliar with the song. She then made a small speech about her personal life and how the screen behind her was a giant iPad. She sung The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face while seated on a stool, which was absolutely beautiful with video clips of her family in the background, many of which we haven't seen. She then moved onto Beauty and the Beast with Barnev, which I love how they take their time with some of the phrasing and the little adlibs here and there. Then, Barnev sang Will It Go Round in Circles, which was a nice breath of fresh air from Spinning Wheel.

 

As soon as I heard the opening notes to Immortality, I started freaking out, thinking that she would do a hologram duet with the Bee Gees, but it wound up being even better and she did it with herself. The Celine on the stage was wearing a pink dress while the Celine out in the audience was wearing a black dress, similar to the dress from the James Bond medley, but there were silver stars on the side of her dress. It was absolutely phenomenal to hear Immortality live after about 15 years since her last live performance. And she moved on to two more hologram duets, All the Way with Sinatra and If I Can Dream with Elvis. All the Way was so beautiful and you could tell that it was so meaningful to Celine. And If I Can Dream sounded superior to the performance on American Idol from before. When you thought things couldn't get any better, she then walked back out with Elise, Dawn, and two guitarists to do the acoustic medley, which everyone freaked out over. And when one of the guitarists was not properly tuned, she did a typical Celine move and knew perfectly how to improvise the show, singing little ad-libs that just sounded great and made great jokes (I wouldn't mind if the concert was ten minutes longer). I loved the acoustic medley, they picked great songs that we haven't heard in a while. That's the Way It Is was an amazing gift and I freaked out when she started singing that. And her shout to Rene during I'm Alive was sooo touching. I love this woman so much!!!! And then she sang Incredible with Barnev.

 

Elise, Dawn, and Barnev came out to sing Unison, which was such a surprise. I really wish that Celine could come out at the end of Unison to finish the song with them before moving onto Love Can Move Mountains and River Deep Mountain High, which she sounded great in. She did different ad-libs and phrasing in the two songs, which just made them a bit more fresh. She then moved onto All by Myself, which she did the high note completely live! Absolutely amazing! And she was really started to get emotional during the song and the verse before the high note, she really sounded like she might break, but she's such a trooper and kept going on. Then came The Show Must Go On, which had a different arrangement than the TCWT version, which made it more dramatic. The last note was absolutely amazing! She was turning around and moving her arms, doing 180's while holding that note! She's absolutely phenomenal!

 

Elise, Dawn, and Barnev came out once again to sing a medley of Uptown Funk, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, We Are Family, and Sex Machine which was very reminiscent to the Soul medley from the TCWT, but was a much better selection of songs in my opinion. She then came out in a sexy silver and white dress, singing a medley of Prince songs, Kiss and Purple Rain. She absolutely owned those songs and this is where the chandelier was moved to. But even though she said goodnight, I knew that there was more to be had.

 

As the introduction to My Heart Will Go On was playing, beautiful words appeared on the screen paying tribute to James Horner. When she came out to sing My Heart Will Go On, I was absolutely stunned when I heard that it was completely live. You could hear that this performance was paying tribute to Horner, singing it for Rene, and singing it for herself as well. Afterwards, she made a beautiful speech, saying that this wasn't just a new day, not just a new show, but a completely new beginning. It was absolutely emotional for everyone. And only with a piano accompaniment, she sung Over the Rainbow, which was soooooooooooooo beautiful and stunning. It was absolutely silent in the Colosseum except for her voice... So many people ran down from their seats into the aisle to the front to take photos and videos (by this point, I think it was just too much for the Colosseum workers to handle, they initially didn't allow video/photography, that all changed as Celine walked down the aisle during Immortality). I was holding onto the chair in front of me just staring at how beautifully she was singing. Such a great ending to such an emotional show.

 

This was hands down, the best performance in her career. This was the most emotional concert that she gave, the most meaningful concert that she gave. Celine was so strong last night and I couldn't believe that she was dealing so much in her personal life, yet she was giving such an amazing performance. This night will stay in my mind for a very very very long time. Thank you to Celine for such an amazing night, thank you to all the other fans who came out to show their support, thank you to Aldo, thank you to the amazing new band, thank you to everyone else involved with the show, and most importantly, thank you to Rene for giving Celine the motivation to return to the stage!

I'm sorry for any background noises. There's some crinkling/wrinkling noise because the recorder was moving in my bag when I kept moving. There's also some screaming/loud clapping/hollering/etc. from the people around me and myself. We couldn't hold our excitement any bit! :giggle:Enjoy!

I know its super early still but someone needs to find Aldo and make sure he knows this show needs to be filmed!!! Also unlike back in 2011 I haven't seen any pro footage from opening night. Also dumb question but I can't member do the side screens show Celine throughout the show u know like pro screen footage?
