Celine and Andrea Bocelli to reunite at Keep Memory Alive's "Power of Love" Gala - June 13th, 2015

Stars set to attend include Sharon Stone, Suzanne Somers, Gloria Estefan, Martina McBride, Quincy Jones, Robin Thicke, George Benson and Celine Dion, who will make a 12-hour round-trip flight to fulfill her promise to KMA. Her husband, Rene Angelil, is in a Boston hospital undergoing throat cancer treatment. Celine has been at his bedside the past two weeks but will fly here to sing “The Prayer” with Andrea.

She will land in time for a limo to race her for their duet and then promptly fly back to Massachusetts to rejoin her husband. “It’s a remarkable commitment because, having promised Andrea and the charity, she didn’t want to let them down by backing out at the last minute,” I was told.

The cancer has not "returned", as it has never left. Celine and the team has always been saying they are battling with Rene together, and it is not a short journey, but they do have a treatment plan. I don't see how this boston treatment trip sounds so sudden and things are going worse. It could indeed be part of their plan.

If anything, he could have possibly gone into remission during the spring of 2014, after he had the initial surgery in December of 2013 when they first found out. They went on several vacations and when they went to Montreal during the summer for L'ete Indien & for Romy's Baptism, they were talking as if the storm was over and everything was fine, just the recovery process was taking some time.

 

My speculation is that the cancer returned in August when she cancelled everything. Typically, when cancer returns after a short amount of time of remission, it comes back worse, which probably meant he had surgery & more treatments which concluded in the loss of his voice & even more damage to his hearing. I think he was able to speak over the summer when they were in Montreal, because there is a photo of Rene and Aldo and Rene is turned to him, making gestures and everything. I could totally be wrong though as it could have been staged lol.

 

Either way...I think that their family moving to Boston for about a month doesn't mean that Rene's condition is worsening. Because of his age & under the circumstances, his prognosis isn't AMAZING, but we can just hope for the best! Who knows what the doctors are saying about his condition and the chance of success. It could very much be high & just a lengthy process because of all of the circumstances, or it can be quite difficult as they have to travel for treatments.

 

It doesn't really matter though, because they seem to be doing fine at the moment! If Rene was seriously seriously ill, Celine would cancel her appearance FOR sure. I know that she already made commitments and such, but if Rene is just there for treatments and to hopefully get better, she knows she can afford to leave him for 12 hours (as stated in the article) and make her way back to him and their family.

Exactly. Celine said they know what is happening, the game plan regarding treatment etc. So I reckon this was already part of their plans and another reason why she wasn't coming back until August.

It's so nice to see her again! I'm sure there will be more emotion in Celine's performance considering what she's been through lately.

 

I hope she finds it comforting to be around other artists right now -- and I'm sure they all have lovely/comforting things to say. Celine could use the support.
