Is this new stuff or are the lives from somewhere else?

It's from a 97 promo:

The performances are from a benefit show for the TK Martell Foundation...

Have to admit I don't pay too much attention to this thread so this may have been shared already... :)

This came up as a recommendation on YouTube - it's not a particularly amazing video, but what really stood out to me is the look Céline is sporting at the Katy Perry show (starts just after the 4-minute mark). Where's that Céline these days?! The hair, the outfit - everything is much more interesting and fun than usual. Very party-oriented - reminds me of the One Heart video. You may all have seen the look already, but it was new to me!

Well, Celine Dion Greece is back so be sure to subscribe again! :P

Celine Dion & Lara Fabian | Boundaries

For a translation of what Lara was saying, you can watch it here. It starts at 06:20

And at 24:35, Celine comes up again when Lara talks about being compared to her. I feel really bad for her, especially the part where she said there came a point when she had to censor/hold herself back from mentioning Celine as her influence, and would instead just say Whitney and Barbra. The French media was really hard on her.

And here Celine is mentioned again and Lara talks about falling in love with Walter Afanasieff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z_qa1-a-YM

And also, I'm guessing this is no longer news but a little googling brought me to this Walter interview where he claims Celine hated Lara! And that Celine allegedly stopped communicating with Walter because she thought he wrote his best songs for Lara.... which we all know is sooo not like Celine at all. Walter seems to have just lost it. He even described Celine in one interview as an "insecure creature." The audacity of this man.

And Lara's response:

The Facebook links don't work for me? Anyone else? Without seeing the interview, I think Celine has a duality. She is at once very secure in herself and her accomplishments, but also highly critical of her own voice...I always got the sense from the backstage or post-show moments where she and Rene were talking about how a performance went. She always mentioned if she hit a bad note etc.

I think Walter is a jaded lover, but it's all a bit strange because he still has a fantastic working relationship with Barbra Streisand, they work together frequently. Also, it's funny that the Vocal Trinity all ended up falling in love with people in the music industry.....Whitney with Bobby Brown, Mariah with Tommy Mottola, and Celine with Rene. Then Lara falls in love with one of the biggest producers around. Lara's other relationships were all with music folks too.

Oh, here's what's written in the Facebook links:

~ LFR exclusive ~

Interview with WALTER AFANASIEFF !!

“I have a Russian soul, but I'm an “american boy” ”

LFR proudly presents ENGLISH translation of the excerpt where Mr Afanasieff talks about Lara Fabian !

---------------------------------------------

Journalist: You have worked with international stars. Which of these encounters have been the most important for you?

Walter Afanasieff: In fact there have been a lot of such encounters... It was a great pleasure and honour for me to work with Michael Jackson... People like him – that's one in a million. Actually that's impossible to mention everyone... Whitney Houston, Darren Hayes, my close friend saxophonist Kenny G, Celine Dion, Lara Fabian. For Lara Fabian I wrote a very beautiful song “Broken Vow”. Do you know such a singer, Lara Fabian?

Journalist: Yes, of course.

WA: Me and her, we had a very sad story. We had a “romance”; I almost got married to this woman. But we broke up. I broke her heart a little bit, and she stopped mentioning my name. Today, when she talks about the song “Broken Vow”, she says that she wrote it [on her own]. That's it! (/Voilà!) I have had a few high-profile stories like this one. Let's not go there. (Gets lost in his thoughts.) But you know what's interesting – when I had a love story with Fabian, Celine Dion simply hated her, but Lara wanted to sing like Dion. Not an easy situation. I happened to be between both of them. Eventually both women stopped communicating with me. Celine thought that I wrote the best songs for Fabian, that only with her I shared the musical secrets... By the way, around the same time Mariah Carey left me.

LFR EXCLUSIVE!!!! Lara Fabian's PERSONAL response to Walter Afanasieff's interview! // Thank you, Lara! ❤

EXCLUSIVITE LFR!!!! La réponse PERSONNELLE de Lara à l'interview de Walter Afanasieff! La traduction française sera faite dans la journée! Merci, Lara! ❤

---------------------------------

Dear All,

I’d like to respond to something that has been written on the Romanian Facebook page where they translate Mr. Afanasieff interview. I'd like to say a few words and in all humility reestablish some truth.

I hold Walter in the higher respect, musically, I never stopped mentioning him.

It is honor having worked with such talent.

It is true I have always said "Broken Vow" is my song... Because it is based on my personal story with him.

Here is the story of how we wrote BROKEN VOW. Maybe Walter will be humble enough to remember it....

The day we wrote that song we got into Wally world studios in San Francisco (his own studios) and sat at his beautiful Bosendorfer piano, virgin of any music.... as usual our nights had been complicated and full of heart felt complexe torturing conversations... That's mostly where I drew my inspiration from..... To write the record...

I was totally convinced something was wrong, and when We sat at the piano I felt in my heart a great song was going to come out of that particular moment.

Before I wrote every bit of the lyric, which sadly became prophetic. The harmonies in the melody were created...

Walter is totally responsible for the foundation of that music, he wrote all the harmonies and MOST of the melody...

We both sat at the piano That day, and as he was unfolding the harmonies we BOTH created the notes. Yet the bridge is my responsibility...

When Walter hit that part of the harmony at that very second came out of my heart the melody you hear in one piece...

The truth is that when I asked to be quoted as a composer for that part of the Song, he refused it... and I did not have power to make him go for what was right and fair to me... At that time...

So yes in time, I specified to whoever asked me, that some of the song was not just his melodically, as he claimed, but also mine. Because I felt it was right to correct and say the truth...

I wanted to respond to that interview. Even if I was not asked anything, because despite the pain which made me grow… I can say that thanks to this story I became a better songwriter, working with such a genius.

Even through despair sometimes, the most extraordinary experiences happen in life...

I am sorry he felt Our story destroyed his relationships with other women singer.... yet I think it does not depend on that... I guess I will have to write the rest in my biography....

As for his quote about me wanting to sing like my pair Celine... it is so stupid...

Indeed we are part of the same family of singers and mostly hold the same range

That being said...

I never wanted to be anything but me and learn to become the best I could.

Yet, as I said and repeated... but let me say it again....

She's been a great guide and inspiration along with Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston... Kate Bush or Annie Lennox…

The rest is history...

Sincerely yours,

Lara

Amazing that this interview has over a million views.

In my opinion, Celine did not seem very healthy in early 2019.

I'm so glad she had a forced, prolonged break due to the pandemic.

She really needed a long rest.

Well to be honest, it is his version that broke worldwide records! It is his version that gave Celine the most famous song in her career. And when I bought the soundtrack after watching Titanic I was sad that the version on the radio was not on it. Then I bought the Let’s talk about love etc

Well, it doesn’t matter which version you want to listen to. Most of the listeners doesn’t care when they hear MHWGO they know it’s a Céline song and a Titanic song but some like the Soundtrack version than the Album version. But still the making up of stories is just…… want some attention? lol he is still full of himself

The first version i have ever listened to back when i was still a little kid was the Soundtrack Version.

And the Titanic and James Horner were the one who made the song became famous not Walter. Hello Oscars. Hello Grammys

Since Walter likes to make up stories. Why not just make a script and make a movie. Titled as “how to have your attention”

Yes the titanic, but the videoclip and the song that was high in the charts is his version. Most people know that version, not the soundtrack version. And as for the Oscars and any other live version she did, they are all inspired by Walter’s mix.

Walter's version is more radio friendly tho

Still, the making up of stories doesn't count. I don't care if they followed the shorter version of walter. She didn't rerecord that song. And those stories about insecurities of Celine lol

Again, Walter is a crazy son of a deer

Yeah, I had friends asking me the same thing.

I was very concerned about her in early 2019, but thankfully she looked healthier by the time the Courage World Tour kicked off.

And she looks even healthier in the most recent videos we've seen of her. :)

I think it was all catching up with her... after losing Rene, and then Aldo exiting... and Vegas coming to a close.

Celine had a lot on her plate as she stepped up as the boss of her career.

I assume she was learning some hard truths about decision making... especially as her Vegas contract was ending and that longterm stability was going away.

She not only had to be the entertainer but also worry about the business side of everything.

It makes sense that she struggled, but I hope she's feeling strong and supported these days.

This is my first time hearing this in a studio version. So she rerecorded this song for a studio version for a duet with Eric.

I wonder if she record also “Tue-Moi” with Dan Bigras (studio version)….

sorry if I offend any Lara fans here, but I watched this docu and Lara appears to be a gold digger. I think she wasn’t with Walter out of deep love, but because he could make her big. That’s also why she deliberately moved from Europe to Quebeck. It’s pretty clear that she saw Celines career as her blue print to fame and success and wanted to follow it desperately, even to the point of obsession. Also, I wouldn’t call Walter a lier. I think the truth lies somewhere in between. Edited by ryba
