I'd never seen this "Music Video" for The Reason before. We see some footage of the recording session that wasn't included in the behind-the-scenes mini doc.

I'd never seen this performance of River Deep Mountain High before - fully live with nice strong vocals. Production sounds better than the studio recording to me.

Really? You just mean the HD version?

This is the song that inspired Phil Spector to contact Celine in the first place.

I don't know why, but for some reason my brain was crossing wires between this and Natural Woman, which to me has absolutely awful production in its studio version - David Foster's production on that is cheesy schlock of the worst kind! To be honest, I don't think the production on River Deep Mountain High is that great, either - still pretty cheesy and synthetic - but at least it's much better than Natural Woman. :)

I am so glad I'm not that only one who thinks that... When I recently saw that clip on French TV of Céline during the D'eux era talking about a possible collaboration with Aretha in the works, I had to chuckle because I imagined them planning to do a duet of "Natural Woman" for Tapestry Revisited (Carole King tribute album on which they both appeared that year) until Aretha heard the track and was like,"Uh, no sweetie. That's all yours!" :sofunny: Who knows what was really planned, but that's just what my silly mind invented.

Haha - you're not alone! Céline's voice can be quite soulful on occasion, but you sure wouldn't know it from her version of Natural Woman. The production and Foster's creative direction robs the song of any hint of depth or authenticity. It's like a cheap karaoke version that somehow lucked into a Céline demo vocal, but even that couldn't save it. :-D

This is one of my favorites. Her voice, the band are soooo good.

What she is doing now does not give the song justice.

I really like Natural Woman's sound! I find it very rich to the ears. I can't speak for the objective quality of production though.

The good thing about David Foster is he knows how to bring out the very best in a powerhouse vocalist.

I don't think his productions are necessarily groundbreaking.

But he really knows how to work with the greatest vocalists of all time and bring out / showcase the full power of their voices... like he did with Barbra, Whitney, & Celine.

I’m actually glad that iteration of DOL didn’t make it into the show. As usual, Mego literally drowned the production value with that arrangement. Bland as hell.

How would you have changed the arrangement?

There just needed to be more “umph.” As always, with Celine’s uptempo songs, Mego drained the life out of it. The key was too low, it could have been at the very least a half step higher. The key also didn’t lend any favors to the brass section, which is a key component to that song. More bombastic drums are needed here as well.

Her band/orchestra isn't always enough especially on those songs.

Example FOMO it sounded nothing like the album version. It was good, but not as powerful.

Same goes for IA, TTWII, AOL etc.

True - he's great at harnessing raw, amazing vocal talent, helping them hone their talents, and directing their energy into great vocal performances (including the big strong belts we love). I just wish his taste level had been a bit higher from the '90s on and he'd allowed for more organic components vs. so much synthetic and technical sheen. But to be fair to him, there was a lot of that going around in the '90s - and he obviously worked wonders on much of the material he produced for Céline - lots of which I still enjoy. :)

I think the strings on Natural Woman are masterful. My biggest dislike of David of the years is his personality...it seems to have really shifted and gotten egotistical in a slight way.

But nothing compared to Phil's ego hahaha. It's funny when David called Phil some names, something or other in some article.

I have said that many times before - the regular drums are no competition with EDM beats! Dj’s and producers make sure the kickdrum has a certain oomph in it and they experiment with layering different kickdrums for that special pumping sound. loved me back to life has that, flying on my own and even imperfections has a special electronic beat. But live these songs sound like the kickdrum is gone , it sounds so dull and lifeless. They should use sampled drums or prerecorded drums.

I once bought a magazine about music production and there was an article about Madonna her confessions tour. She wanted her fans to have that same album sound. So a set of big apple computers were backstage with the exact drumbeats and the same filters and effects she had on her vocals. These were played live during the concert , including live effects and filters on her live vocals.

Celine always has great musicians around her and why not use computers with live effects and beats to recreate that dance sound when needed? The drummer does not have to drum everything.

Celine's voice sounded so fantastic in early 2011. She sounds like 90s Celine singing Declaration of Love.

Yeah, it's amazing. Blast from the past but just different enough to be exciting.

Scott actually did a great job with TTWII. I didn’t mind the TCWT version of IA. And I’m not sure what AOL is.

I agree that’s the way it is sounded quite like the studio arrangement!

Totally forgot about I Have to Dream!!! The lyrics are so ridiculous but I really love her voice on this one and the melody is so beautiful.

I don't really like the title of the interview, but Whitney said that she was actually surprised to win with Celine and Andrea Bocelli!

Such a rarity to see Whitney Houston talking about / mentioning Celine. Thanks for sharing! Still so sad that Whitney's gone.

I would love to see compilations of other singers talking about Celine. I've seen a few compilation videos on YouTube, but I assume there's still a lot of great clips floating around out there.

I never thought we would hear her say Celine's name!
