Ok - I finally took the time to go through the Celine content that I was able to digitize from my VHS tapes before my VCR quit working. I don't think I've ever seen this VH1 Artist of the Year special on YouTube. I can't find it with a quick search. So this may be really rare or it may be old hat to some people. Just in case, I'm sharing it here below. Maybe it's something rare that can whet people's appetite/give something people to focus on during this final week lead up to the tour beginning. I've also got the entirety of the 2002 Divas Las Vegas which I seem to always have difficulty finding on YouTube. Will look into uploading that next.

Oh wow - this takes me back 20+ years. This was the very first Celine thing I ever taped. (I also had the Falling Into You concert and Video Collection they advertise- I actually remember that afternoon when they had a big block of Celine programming). Watched that video SO many times as a teen.

Haha, I still have several boxes of Celine VHS tapes in my parents' basement - I should dust that off! Might have some gems recorded on all those tapes!

 

(But where does one play that now?? LOL)

Glad I could bring back some memories! I’ve got the video collection and FIY Concert as well but didn’t upload them cuz all of that is basically on YouTube anyway.

 

I’ve also got the full Divas Live 2000 special which I can’t find anywhere - probably because when I tried to upload my copy it immediately got blocked due to copyright. Blerg!

So, pretty much all of the recently uploaded French songs on YouTube are available for me to play now. Anyone else in the US experiencing this??

Comedy is one of my biggest passions (after Céline), so naturally I love a good parody. Last night I re-watched these clips, and I think Marc LaBreche is probably the best at mimicking Céline -- particularly her style of interview (most other comedians go after her stage persona). From her answer-with-a-song and bizarre analogies, to her "serious" eyes, the deep breaths, the sniffs, the halo (!!). It all cracks me up!

 

 

In the first video, she says "If anyone wants to talk trash about Québec music, it's going to have to deal with me. Becuase, you know Marc, I grew up in Québec... at least, that's what René always told me. In fact, he *still* speaks to me. He says "don't forget where you came from". Because, you know Marc, life is like .. like a musical score. Sometimes, there are notes like "Lablahlabluhbla-duuuh" And then other times, there is silence. But YOU have choose the "key". OR you don't. BUT... is there really a "key"? It's not that complicated."

I'm not totally fluent in French, but I get like 80% of what he's saying, and find it hilarious!! What do you guys think?

I understand 10% French and find his parodies of Celine hilarious.

 

The Vogue one is histerical. I love that the locations and outfits are so accurate.

Ahah I remember that my brother woke up to watch it live, came to my bed, asking me "come on !!! Céline will sing !!!" but... I didn't get up !!! ahahahah what a shame. But I was 9 years old (and a half)! But he recorded it and we watched it 102894082 times ^^

Thank you so much for uploading this! I don't think I'd ever seen it before, but it was still so nostalgic to watch, as 1996/FIY era is when I fell in love with Celine. The thing that really struck me while watching this was that all the accomplishments they talk about here are all pre-MHGWHO, pre-Las Vegas, pre-Fashion Queen Renaissance. But still, it's stunning to remember what a massive star she was by then, and how amazing her career had already been. Certainly MHWGO launched her to stratospheric new heights, but I think that the world kind of forgets how massive she was even before that.

 

(And who do we petition about getting an HD release of the full version of the FIY Live in Montreal concert? I must've watched that special dozens of times when I was a teenager!)

Glad you enjoyed it and that it could bring back memories for you! It *is* odd to watch a special on her and not have MHWGO or Vegas mentioned, it’s true. But yes, between Deux being such a success in French markets and TPOL/TT dominating the charts in different countries, FIY brought us BYLM and ICABTMN which are two of her biggest hits AND she won the Grammy for that album. Her start just kept continuing to rise until MHWGO and that was about as big as any artist could ever dream of being.
