Why have I never seen this before? Like a kid at Christmas watching this, grinning like the Cheshire cat! La voix du Bon Dieu, Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi, D'abord c'est quoi l'amour... All live, all amazing... An orchestra and Céline in a pair of jeans... I'd pay the top price for a ticket to a show like this, ten times over! :-)

Isn't this the 10th anniversary concert? Something else that could be released on dvd/cd!

I just found these two pics of Celine and Rene golfing in a Star Systeme interview.

post-3861-0-07897700-1428952865_thumb.jpgpost-3861-0-13112400-1428952892_thumb.jpg

Does anyone have video footage of this interview? I have never seen it before.

I see that these pics have the Celine Dion forum logo on them, so there is probably video footage in the media section, but is there any youtube videos of this?

Oh my god... Can't actually believe I've just found this! A full(ish) recording from FIY tour, recorded in London in 1996!

I was at her show in June 1997 and this has just taken me right back in time - I was 14 years old and it was my first concert. I can still remember my excitement when the lights went down and the sound effects kicked in... And then Celine's voice... "The whispers in the morning..." I was dumbstruck! This might even be why The Power Of Love is my favourite song! Such a great opener!

I know it isn't the exact same show, and the running order had changed by June but this almost had me in tears of excitement.

Having said that, is there anyone who can help me piece together the 1997 setlist? I know Declaration of Love replaced Falling Into You. And I know she didn't sing WDMHBN. But I'm fairly certain Think Twice was not the final song - she came out and performed Call The Man and Power Of The Dream but I'm pretty sure she sang something else. Wiki says it was Because You Loved Me but I'm not sure - I remember a huge fight taking place in the crowd during this song (YES - a fight at a Celine concert!!) and I seem to remember it being earlier in the show! Does anybody know what song she finished with? Or indeed where Think Twice was performed?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tT3GIFtkOY

I probably shouldn't look at old setlists cause I get frustrated when I realise what gems I've missed - so glad I got to see her sing Call The Man live and wouldn't change this for the world but would have been great to hear Natural Woman and WDMHBN live during this period. I wonder what motivates set changes during a tour??

I don't think that it was really recorded in London. I think it's the same as "Live in Zurich". (Others may be able to confirm or deny) And "Live in Zurich" also aired on Radio 2 in either 1996 or 1997...I recorded it off the radio and played it to DEATH!

I'm fairly sure that the set list was revamped in 1997 - during her 1996 European tour I'm pretty sure it was pretty similar to the video above, plus I'm fairly sure I read that she sang Natural Woman in place of Call The Man, and that TT was indeed the last song on her European stops in 1996 (besides the French ones) because that was her biggest European hit at that time. When she started wearing the gold suit around early 1997 is when the playlist was revamped - FIY and WDMHBN were removed, TT was moved to the middle of the show and BYLM was the last song.

I'd suggest, if you haven't already, going to Youtube and looking up "Live in Berlin 1997" - it's a bootleg recorded during the second-to-last stop on the tour, which I'm sure will provide more nostalgia for you :)

This is the live in Zurich that's right ;) The same recording had been aired on an italian radio at the time of her Milan concert. All three have different running times. The Zurich one is the complete one with 17 songs.

What I can't believe is that this recording remained unknown to you until now ! Well, enjoy it now ^^

There are three recordings from 1997 that enable to see what the songlists were : of course, the Memphis video that shows what the american concerts were like ; the Berlin bootleg which is a testimony of her mini stadium tour in Europe at the summer of 1997 and the Dubai private concert which has a very special songlist of its own !

Good old radio 2. They used to always play celine. Yeah I taped it as well lol. Think it may have been Xmas 96 when it aired ☺

Thanks for all this information! Nope... I had no idea about the Live in Zurich recording! Can I find an MP3 of it anywhere?

It was very similar to the London 97 show I attended. It is very possible that the last song there was BYLM and my judgement is clouded by the Memphis show.

But as someone has suggested here, TT was definitely moved to the middle of the show and WDMHBN and FIY were removed. I'm just wondering what song she was singing when the fight broke out... :hmm:

Why did the fight break out? There was a fight in Vegas a few years ago too right?
Posted

I've never really worked it out - I was watching from above and there were lots of people in the stalls near the front all standing enjoying the show. Next thing, a brawl broke out and punches were being thrown. Celine was singing right to them at first but when she realised what was happening there was a glimmer of panic and she took herself to the other, more civilised end of the stage!

I imagine the fight was over personal space or some people getting in the way of others. Maybe the crowd at the front annoyed people sitting down. They seemed to be older couples in suits so I imagine somebody bumped into the wrong person and a fight ensued. All speculation. Would be interesting to know if anyone here was at the same show - Earl's Court, 14 June 1997.

In honor of Titanic's victims families. It sank 103 years ago. :teary:

P.S.: Céline was absolutely amazing on that day (at World Children's Day), one of the highlights of her career i think. I also love the "That's The Way It Is" performance she did.

This was absolutely vocally one of the best nights of her career. This performance of MHWGO is second favorite only to the version she did in the movie medley from the ANDHC CBS Special in 2002.

I agree. My favorite would have to be the Andrea Corr performance.

I will never forgive whoever edited this video for dubbing over her live vocal. She was on point on this night with her voice, and EVERY single song was live. You can totally tell this was dubbed over...Whoever it was, I hate you.

Is there a reason for them doing this, especially for a performance where she is clearly on great form vocally? Was this around the time the song was released as a single?

How amazing would it be to see a live performance of this song? Footage must exist somewhere!

So many Mariah performances of the 90s was dubbed. I cried for a week when I realized. Her MSG show from 1995...dubbed. Fake live vocals.

So, not just Celine.

Yeah sure lol. Celine definitely lip-synced this song, she has all her lip-syncing mimics. Her lips move exactly as the studio version. You're probably just mad that this playback looks really fake because they added the studio version above the playback, but that's just it.

This is not even called dubbing. Dubbing is when you sing live (with improvisation), and then you go to the studio to make it sound better; you can even sing again parts of the songs following the improvisations you might have done during the concert. Mariah used to be very good at that, yes. To me, this is less bad that play-backing or using a pre-recorded track, mostly because you can often find the undubbed version on Youtube.
