Again, I don't want to be too fanatic, but most likely she was just exceptionally fit that day...and could match the same standard as on the studio recordings. Taking these sessions into consideration, we've all seen the clear and powerful performances in the studio. If she was well capable of pulling it off there, then why not the night of the lottery performance? 2. I know The Reason track really well.. the first verse of the lottery performance must have been live cause the pronunciation is different from the album track. It makes no sense to single out a brief part of the sessions to offer just a slightly different interpretation of the first verse. Why bother that much for just one quite low profile appearance in a regular show? 3. Frankly, we don't know how the lion's share of her live-lip-tracks were recorded. To me, it seems likely that they were recorded during rehearsals. 4. We know from the isolated performances that you mention that these were recorded separately and especially in the studio for the purpose of that single appearance. Some were afterwards released. The objective for these recordings was completely different. Sorry, i got confused above, i mixed up two performances. I agree with Timster that the Fatastico performance wasn't live. I absolutely love it too. Why she didn't do it for the whole tour (I think after I'm Alive woulda been great) is beyond me. I hope to be proven wrong. 2. I'm not saying they combined studio and live vocals, I'm saying the entire performance was lipped. 3. Celine's 'regular' lipped tracks are all recorded in a studio. They are not taken from live performances. The only time this happened was on the CBS Woman In Me Special & An Audience With, where audio was taken from the Live in Las Vegas DVD.You're forgetting the most important part. To know if it's playback, I look for perfection too. For sure, vocals that are too smooth are a sign of playback. And Celine was definitely close to perfection that day. But it's mostly about Celine's looks and mimics. And this performance is way way closer to the Royal Variety Performance (Live) than the San Remo Festival (playback). Those are signs that do not lie. However, this performance is tricky, because the very end is definitely a playback: it's even the (unedited) album track. I have my doubts of when the playback kicks in, because she probably got carried away and sang while the playback was playing (so she didn't do her usual mimics until "yeah you yeah you"). The mic is off in the end, and she doesn't say thanks right away (which is a sign of playback), and even when she says thanks we cannot hear her well. In conclusion, I would say it's live until 2:45ish. Then playback kicks in for the last notes. Quote
