Actually, “Ashes” fits in this album more than “Flying On My Own”.

 

I actually think Ashes would have been a good title for the album. It would have worked well with the aesthetic of the album cover.

You can tell just how hard she worked on this album. A lot of work went into it.

 

I think it would be a slam dunk for best album...except perhaps having so many songs blurs out the fact of how amazing each one is. So to stand out, maybe 20 songs is too much...but having the best 16 out of this 20 great songs would make it an invincible record.

My Review:

 

 

 

 

1.Flying On My Own - 8/10 Such a solid song. Happy, uplifting and energetic!

 

2.Lovers Never Die - 7/10 This song has an instant hook - so edgy! It lacks a climax though. And ends abruptly. It actually needs 1 more minute.

 

3.Falling In Love Again 9/10 - This song brought me tears. It is just so beautiful. Her voice soars!

 

4.Lying Down 9/10 - Proud of this song. People who have suffered domestic violence/abuse, bullying, toxic relationships can find solace. A powerful anthem!

 

5.Courage 8/10 - Another anthem. Beautifully sung. I especially enjoy the soft verses. I do cringe when she refers to courage in second person though.

 

6.Imperfections 6/10 - Cute song. With a good message. But that's about it. Lacks melody IMO. I cannot understand how they chose this as lead single.

 

7.Change My Mind 9/10 - So edgy and cool! Love the vocals! Good song for the radios and the stage!

 

8.Say Yes - 8/10 Such a beautiful song. So calm and soft. And what a wise message! Love her voice and the production!

 

9.Nobody's Watching - 9/10 So f****** catchy. I want to be waking up to this song. It is that good! Like an updated and better version of Make You Happy.

 

10.The Chase - 9/10 In love with this one as well. Cinematic and easy-going. I listen to it and think of highways, landscapes and an evening sky.

 

11.For The Lover That I Lost 9/10 - I am loving this one! Its music and lyrics are so emotional. Her singing approach could improve. Looking forward to a live performance!

 

12.Baby 6/10 - A solid album filler. Not bad by any means. Just not my cup of tea. Might grow on me though.

 

13.I Will Be Stronger - 8/10 So much better than I expected it to be. Judging by its title I thought it'd be an average empowerment song. But it's more. It has soul - very good.

 

14.How Did You Get Here - 6/10 Love the vintage sound. I think Celine experiments with motown here. Not among the songs I want to repeat. Might grow on me.

 

15.Look At Us Now - 6/10 Pretty much same thoughts as HDYGH. Not bad songs though.

 

16.Perfect Goodbye - 9/10 Perfect way to close the album indeed. I feel this song has Lana Del Rey vibes all over it. A good thing. Takes me to a sandy beach under the night sky.

 

I would rate this album with 8/10 after 5 listens. It is modern, interesting, well-crafted and cohesive. Well done Celine! It is a big YES from me!

"The Chase" reminds me so much of a song from the 90's but I can't remember the **** title. Especially the melody of the chorus "I wish you I wish you stay". Do you hear it too? This is driving me crazy and I'm sure someone could help me here.

I would’ve taken a semi-tone down for Hard Way just to give her voice more power. I think it still would’ve been incredibly impressive still, but with more chest power.

Perfect goodbye is the perfect song to enjoy the solitude in the night.

Okay so this is my complete review of the Album

 

Flying on my own 6/10 nice uptempo song but dont feel it fits kinda with the vibe of this album.. this album has a melow vibe, other midtempo songs are more mellow to fit the theme.

 

Lovers Never Die 6/10 Nice song but feel it misses a climax or it is not that memorable. maybe need a to grow on me.

 

Falling in love again 7/10 it is growing on me beautiful song and lyrics but dont feel it has that special thing that some of the others have.

 

Lying Down 8/10 I like it the dramatics of the song and the lyrical content of it.

 

Courage 9/10 For me this song has a lot of personal meaning sop melodically and lyrically very powerful and beautiful.

 

Imperfection 8/10 Now that I have heard the complete album think it is much needed in between these ballads and soft songs love the beat its a bop

 

Change My Mind 9/10 Love this one love the vibe the beat her singing very powerful and raw.

 

Say Yes 8/10 Love this one also very soft and beautiful someone made a reference to a la plus haute branch think spot on.
