I've just watched the whole interview and I can't believe how much maturity she's gained. That attitude, that confidence in her eyes... Wow she really owns the place right now. I remember when I was in my teen years and she was around 30 already, she seemed so grounded to me, in control, on top of her career. Now when I look back at some interviews from that time (late 90's-2000's), she truely looked like a baby lol! Anyway loved the interview. She's definitely still got it when it comes to singing. Those improvisations (especially the one about singing over a cold) were just mindblowing!

What amazes me the most is how mature and grounded she's always been, since her early years. Not today, but always. With 15. With 20. With 26. Always! She's always been clear about what she did, so sure, never seemed to have doubts (and if she had sometime, she dissimulated very good!). Not to mention that in all these english interviews she's not speaking in her mother tongue, and that must had been difficult in the first years of her career, to express what you want to say, make yourself clear and then people really understands what you want to say.That's out of the ordinary in a person so young, and that characteristic of her persona scares me, but amazes me at the same time Edited September 20, 2013 at 10:08 AM by Javito

I agree with you. She's always been so mature for her age, certainly because she was so well surrounded and lived a life that, in a way, led her to be mature in her early years (travelling all over the world, having older people treating her like an adult...). But what I truly meant by saying she seemed more mature now than ten years ago is that she speaks up about things now she would have never mentioned in her 30's for instance. Like the Miley Cyrus thing, or Whitney's obvious drug abuse when she passed... I read once in one of her (many) biographies that she always tried to avoid the subject when it came to speaking about another celebrity scandal not to offend anybody... I think that's a good thing she changed her ways and gained confidence.

Finally we learn that she is fed up with certain songs as well. Ok, I do believe that she should include MHWGO, I still like it no matter what, but if she doesn't really feel like doing TPOL or BYLM or RDMH why don't they change them?! We won't kill her for that or sth and most of us would be glad to hear something new, not in terms of new songs but also new old songs like TTWII, ANDHC, LTAL or Then you look at me! I'm sure it'd be great...

 

I think they should realise that because this is exactly what they've done with bringing back WDMHBN, BATB or TR! and it has been great! Celine look for other gems in your old repertoire!

The title of the new album is.... "Shower Improvisation" Another idea: "Interview Improvisation"!

 

Now we know: Celine reads books, but doesn't watch the TV. A good example for young people

Notwithstanding all the positive remarks on the interview, which was really nice, I wanted to add some comments just to add another perspective.

 

Now, saying nothing about her latest French album is indicative for Celine Dion the businesswoman, not exclusively talking as a private person. In other words: Although Sans Attendre obviously meant a great deal for her and led to enormous success (in all respects) just the past year, she neglects it in order to stress the importance of the next English album. To me -though I might be biased a bit - she even nearly feels awkward telling about the European 'French' concerts.

From a business point of view they have no reason for promoting her French career, thus exclusively promoting her as an American/English singer. However as a private person who loves to chat privately like (such as she seems to demonstrate so often), no matter what people would think of her, it's rather strange she consequently neglects Sans Attendre.

It became one of the world's most successful albums last year etc etc.

 

Also: I find it striking she's showing her vocal exercises again; she's singing her way through the interview. There are many similarities between these last interviews. Not only with regard to Celine's answers, but mostly from the interviewer's perspective.

King even announced Celine was to be showing off vocally ('after the break Celine's gonna give us some singing tips' or whatever..) after the break. Smells like policy. I guess her team has great influence, they make sure the 72 million dolllar house makes the interview, just like the Vegas deal, the kids - to present her as a neat family woman -, and the vocal stuff to present her as a vocal genius or something.

 

To recap: it's not as spontaneous as you might think; we are more manipulated than you might think.

 

Ps: I also enjoy her being a smart businesswoman, I believe she's a sincere mother, as well as she's more sincere than ever about herself as a singer.

But still, there is a huge number of pages of the open book that are edited, i would be very curious to know more about the business side of it.

It's (maybe) like politics. Her representatives make a deal: if you want Celine in your tv-show/program, that's fine, she'll even sing a song, but we would appreciate if you'll ask her about her album, her kids, her collaboration with Sia, about Vegas, about the house she's selling, about the way she takes care of her voice etc. In return she'll be answering such questions convincingly, show some private pictures; grant a scoop.

It's always been like that. Selling 220 millions albums has as much to do with marketing tricks as just great singing.

I love this interview!!! I think this one and Ellen's interview are the top 2 so far. I love when she said "I can't twit that" in reference to a picture of her singing in the shower. She also mentioned her Vegas home and how residents were upset and thought she'd build this huge house.....I have to admit I smirked a bit at this and thought, "gee I wonder why?". Hahaha. I had forgotten about the helicopter thing, too. lol I love some of the final questions he asked, too. And that pope comment was hilarious at the end!

I would love to hear do Think Twice. It seems it's only done in the UK but I'd love to see that in Vegas or somewhere too. She has so much to choose from! I don't think the fans would get mad to see her switch it up instead of hearing the same songs at each concert.

It seems to me that in the last 5 years she has gone back to a heavy French accent, which I love!! It's cute. I agree. I adore Celine, and I think for the most part she's a very genuine person, but when she talks about why she's chosen the music for her new album, I take whatever she says with a huge grain of salt. She does seem to really love LMBTL, but in general, I think the style of songs has been chosen based on what they think will sell albums. I don't think it's a coincidence that they happen to work with whoever the most popular songwriters are at that moment, whether it's Sia or Ne-Yo or Kara DiGuardio in 2007; Diane Warren & David Foster in the 90s when they were huge; Max Martin in '99 when that style was super-popular. I don't think she's suddenly tired of ballads (her brand-new french album is full of ballads, after all) -- I think she's always enjoyed a wide range of music including but not limited to ballads -- and they choose for the English albums what they think will sell well.

 

The 2007 interviews irritate me to no end - when Celine says with this surprised look on her face "It's not like I was trying to find edgier music . .but for this album, people were all of a sudden sending me edgier songs." And, for me, I just don't believe that. She and/or her team decided she needed edgier songs to sell in the 2007 environment. For crying out loud, she herself said at other times that she'd wanted That's Just the Woman in Me since 1998 or so, but was always told it didn't fit whatever album they were working on. Obviously, she was getting edgier music earlier as well, and I'm sure she got ballads in 2007.

 

Her French music strikes me as much more authentic . . for SA, mostly she talked about how personally meaningful the songs were for her. For this album, I think she's saying a basically rehearsed speech, probably as advised by her publicist.

 

Whatever, I love her anyway!

Thanks, Alex, I completely agree. The woman is 45? years old, wake up people. Lighting and makeup can take ten years off of you. Larry King does NOT have good lighting. She's still beautiful. My god, her own fans I would think would respect her a little more than to attack her signs of age.

I'm glad that Celine's developed a better answer to the "what have you been doing the last 6 years" question. But it still bothers me that she neglects to talk about her French career. I'm so curious as to why. Why would it be bad business to talk openly about this incredibly impressive, meaningful aspect of her career/life/legacy? She should be more specific for English speaking audiences and embrace that it's an asset. Makes her more interesting. Makes her an international Icon -- and I think that's part of her overall intrigue.

 

So -- she needs to include in response to the 6 year question: "I also released Sans Attendre -- it was an incredibly successful album I recorded in French, last year. I didn't just record French albums at the start of my career. I've continued to -- and they're among the most meaningful projects I've worked on in my career." She's even mentioned before how when RC really wants to understand her as an artist, she'd simply hand him D'eux and that'd be it.

 

It just frustrates me SO much to think how people think her English discography is it. Like Mariah or Whitney or Christina fans. They think Celine's English songs is it….That's all there is. But there's this entire OTHER CAREER that she's got!!!!!! A more meaningful one. A more profound one. One that will BE Celine's legacy!

I remember reading about a book, that René's daughter gave her, that she really really liked. It's called, "If Only it Were True" by Marc Levy. He's a French author. In French it's called, "Et Si C'est Vrai".

 

So, maybe that's the book that she's talking about. I've read it, and I liked it very much. There's even a "part 2" also which I've read. I wonder if Celine has? Hmmm...

That's what I asked Katie when they were taking twitter questions. I've wondered that also because she had the chance to mention it during the Billboard interview (the backstage one) and also Ellen, well, Access Hollywood also!. So frustrating!
