Celine to be interviewed on Larry King Now on 9/19/2013

I totally agree that she should be plugging SANS ATTENDRE. You can bet she will be promoting it side by side with LMBTL in Europe. As I said once before, it seems she's on these shows for her pleasure. Sure, management puts her there to push the new single, but she's there and making the best of her time. It's just not in Celine to sell something. Ironic, considering she's such a well-sold artist! lol...or rather, ironicle?

I wonder what book was so good that she didn't want it to end? Wonder if it was in French or English? What book was popular during AND?

The story about her loving a book so much that she was thinking about it during her show was in For Keeps, too. Don't remember if the name of it was in For Keeps, though.

I remember reading about a book, that René's daughter gave her, that she really really liked. It's called, "If Only it Were True" by Marc Levy. He's a French author. In French it's called, "Et Si C'est Vrai".

So, maybe that's the book that she's talking about. I've read it, and I liked it very much. There's even a "part 2" also which I've read. I wonder if Celine has? Hmmm...

I just googled the Amazon description of this book, and it says:

"What do you do when you find a stranger in your closet, particularly when she's surprised that you can even see her -- and she can disappear and reappear at whim? What if she then tells you that her body is actually in a coma on the other side of town? Should you have her see a psychiatrist or should you consult one yourself? Or do you take a chance and believe in her, and allow yourself to be swept up in an extraordinary adventure? This is the beginning of the dilemma Arthur, a young San Francisco architect, is facing when he discovers Lauren in his apartment. Arthur is the only man who can share Lauren's secret, the only one who can see her, hear her, and talk to her when no one else so much as senses her presence. So when doctors prepare to end Lauren's physical care -- which would destroy the magical bond she and Arthur cherish -- he must find a way to save her."

OK, I think we just found the back story to Loved Me Back to Life, and why Celine loves it so much. It must remind her of her favorite book! :giggle:

I also have read it! In French! I'm so proud of myself. Celine made me do that.

It's very Celinish book. Very positive, crazy and with beautiful love story! And it really fits to LMBTL! :thumbsup2:

I agree. I adore Celine, and I think for the most part she's a very genuine person, but when she talks about why she's chosen the music for her new album, I take whatever she says with a huge grain of salt. She does seem to really love LMBTL, but in general, I think the style of songs has been chosen based on what they think will sell albums. I don't think it's a coincidence that they happen to work with whoever the most popular songwriters are at that moment, whether it's Sia or Ne-Yo or Kara DiGuardio in 2007; Diane Warren & David Foster in the 90s when they were huge; Max Martin in '99 when that style was super-popular. I don't think she's suddenly tired of ballads (her brand-new french album is full of ballads, after all) -- I think she's always enjoyed a wide range of music including but not limited to ballads -- and they choose for the English albums what they think will sell well.

The 2007 interviews irritate me to no end - when Celine says with this surprised look on her face "It's not like I was trying to find edgier music . .but for this album, people were all of a sudden sending me edgier songs." And, for me, I just don't believe that. She and/or her team decided she needed edgier songs to sell in the 2007 environment. For crying out loud, she herself said at other times that she'd wanted That's Just the Woman in Me since 1998 or so, but was always told it didn't fit whatever album they were working on. Obviously, she was getting edgier music earlier as well, and I'm sure she got ballads in 2007.

Her French music strikes me as much more authentic . . for SA, mostly she talked about how personally meaningful the songs were for her. For this album, I think she's saying a basically rehearsed speech, probably as advised by her publicist.

Whatever, I love her anyway!

I have to disagree on this. Sorry but if they had chosen songs thinking in what will sell they would have just released a DANCE album, which is what works in radios today, and not a couple of songs but a full record. And there's absolutely no way that they had included snooze fest songs from 1970 like "Lullaby", "At Seventeen" or "How Do You Keep The Music Playing" :thumbsup2:

Wish that it was all true what you say, that their goal was to "sell albums" again, but with such contrast of songs that go from day to night I just don't think that's their aim, or at least not the only one. There's some kind of stupid whim of René to include those Vegas songs in this album and there's no way they're thinking she will sell more for those boring songs, if only, for the mixture and big contrast between the new songs and their fresh style, and these covers :innocent: Well, maybe that works. But from an artistic point of view the tracklist of this album and considering the album as a whole product, this tracklist is nosense, because of those Vegas songs which are totally out of place here.

Interesting point. Well, the other thing they've always done is try to appeal to as broad a fan base as possible. They don't want to lose the fans who like the softer, older sounds, so they'll include those types of songs on there as well.

I don't think they've *only* chosen songs based on what they think will sell -- I think Celine often chooses songs she genuinely loves and is touched by -- and that includes *both* songs like LMBTL and Lullaby. (She still gets quite emotional singing Lullaby - that song clearly has meaning for her).

But I do think that choosing songs that will sell is part of it, and that's why each time there's a new album, the songwriter that is currently super-popular is all of a sudden the new direction in which she wants to go. It's not that she doesn't genuinely like the songs. . .it's just that she's always liked a broad range of styles, from sweet ballads to edgier, rockier stuff, and the way she talks about new album styles just feels a bit rehearsed to me. She hasn't stopped liking the old styles (or why would she sing HDYKTMP or Lullabye so passionately?) and she's always liked other styles as well.

Just because one fan finds her repertoire boring doesn't mean that they all do. Celine's best seller isn't a twenty-something wanting to dance. It's probably a mid thirty to mid forty something.

Don't shoot me on this opinion ok, but I've always thought the concept of her "Celine" Vegas show has been more forced and an idea by the Caesars Palace managers and especially the show's director Ken Ehrlich than Céline herself :innocent: I don't know 100% sure who the idea of including so many covers in "Celine" show was, but look at Céline's latest CBS Specials, directed/produced by Ken, the age of this man (who is in its 70's like René) and compare the song setlist of both programs. I'm quite sure covers have been present in her CBS specials too because of this man

Honestly Alex, if you think there's only "one fan" who thinks her current concert in Vegas is boring and has told that since the premiere of the show, I don't know where you've been since then. Even Humberto Gatica said that after the show premiere in march 2011, and that's the man who better knows Céline's voice in the world and all the songs and styles she has recorded in the studio. He literally said there were too many covers in the show and that it was "too slow in the middle". A polite way to say that he was bored.

It's far from "one fan" LOL

And for allusions, I'm not just a twenty-something who wants to dance to Céline's music, I'm a twenty-something fan who wants to feel alive with her music and not like I'm in the tunnel of time watching a movie of 1920 in black and white surrounded by dead people who sleep during it. There's colour and rythm in life too.

I know it's not one fan, but you have the tendency to make sweeping generalities with the assumption that everyone's on board with you. We hear it over and over again.

I think it is the absolute best show she's every put on. I did not care for A New Day... one bit. You cannot judge the show till you see it. I'd much rather hear her present day vocals doing timeless songs than gout du jour pop crap.

If you're praising the show because of her vocals, I couldn't agree more with you on that. I understand and respect you love her to use her current voice to singing those songs, but there's a place for everyone (or should be). And that show has no place for a single song released between 1999 and 2009, it completely ignores at a stroke a whole decade of her career and all the fans who have bought a copie of All The Way, ANDHC, One Heart and Taking Chances during a decade :ermm: You call it the best show you've ever seen of her, I think its the best fiasco concert for any fan who has any Celine Dion CD in his/her house  Its not loyal at all to those fans, its not loyal to herself.

I don't know if I generalize or not, but when Celine says she's excited when they remove the Vegas covers from her new album and they are replaced for original songs, how can the Vegas show be the most "Celine" concert she's ever done, or "made for the fans"? It gives the impression that Celine didn't have any say in the selection of the setlist (if only they barely allowed her to include "The Reason", one song of her own repertoire that she especifically asked to sing the poor girl!! :ermm: ) and that she sold her soul (from an artistic point of view) to Caesars Palace and a director who decided what she had to sing to please a very specific audience that they knew very well which would be: mainly mature people of 50 and up, who have no idea what her discography is about. Are these considered her fans, really? Come on.........................

There's no way to please everyone -- that's true with the type of shows she presents. And with the albums she releases.

Luckily -- she's really covered the spectrum, especially lately! LOVED ME BACK TO LIFE will be a very different album than SANS ATTENDRE. The promotion for LMTL has been/will continue to be very different than SA. The new Vegas show is as opposite as can be from A NEW DAY. The concert in Quebec and the upcoming concerts in Europe was/will be very different from TCWT/the Vegas shows.

She does enough of a variety to cover a very wide spectrum. Her "older" audience will still have enough tracks on the new album to be pleased. And there will be enough modern, fresher sounding tracks to bring in new fans/appease other fans who like that type of sound.

She's giving us a lot of variety. My big hope is that she continues to do projects/concerts outside of Vegas between now and 2019. Or, at the very least, allow the Vegas show to evolve. :)

She doesn't owe her fans a thing. You didn't have to buy those CD's. You've never been to the show to be able to review it as a fiasco. Celine is nothing but loyal to herself. She's singing what she wants to and she's giving the big hits to her fans...thus being loyal to us. I'm afraid you are a fan that can never be happy, unless we are able to go back in time. I definitely agree with you here. Especially you very last statement! When I watch the recording studio video of LMBTL, Access Hollywood and Ellen, it makes me feel like she wants Vegas to evolve now. Like even she herself was just going through the motions, stuck. She said during those interviews what is she going to do she can't continue to do the same things anymore. Maybe I'm reading too much into it? Or maybe I'm wanting it to evlove?

As for things outside of Vegas, projects yes, hopefully but I could of sworn Rene said the contract states no concerts inside of North America. (they had to get permission for Quebec?) and that is what saddens me because I loved seeing the TC tour! Maybe I'll save enough money to fly to Europe if she does other concerts there during the Vegas contract! Sorry, rambling on........... :)

I disagree again lol. Completely disagree with the "she doesn't owe her fans anything". Sorry but yes she does, and someone who works face-to-face to the public like a singer does, like an actress does, she's owed to the public more than any other profession. People who dedicates her life to this job are completely owed to their public and their fans, and they have to please them. She's where she is today because the public put her there some day. Don't know if you saw the Larry King interview, but Céline herself said that "I was born to please", so she's perfectly aware of that ;).

Concerning the kind of show she's doing today in Vegas: that show is working today well (even if she isn't sold out anymore like with A New Day), but don't think she's going to be able to go all the way until 2019 with this same setlist. I highly doubt she can keep the current program of songs for 7 years without making changes. But that's natural, it will need an evolution like every artist needs to do in her concerts. But with "Celine", people is not going to see that show because she is singing the American songbook with those covers, people is going to see her because its Celine Dion, the legend who reached the top of the music with the Titanic song and because she shines like gold with her voice no matter what she sings. They will see her no matter she sings covers or not. The problem is the amount of covers "she" has placed in that show, and the disappointment that many people has showed after the show when they say "it was nice, but I expected to see her sing more of her songs". That's the problem with this show, and this is not a personal opinion, its been said by many fans in this forum and reviews from people in facebook. I highly doubt they can keep it in its current shape for much time. Just my two cents of course :)

I really think she depends on the public, of course she's owed to the public, like any other artist who works in this business. She has a privileged status, no question about that, but the same public who raised her to the top in the 90's can descend her to the ground if she doesn't take care of what people wants and follows a natural evolution in her career (which "Celine" doesn't represent at all, if something it is more like a regression). So the argument that "she doesn't owe us anything" can't be more innacurate, especially when you're talking of someone who has a permanent public-facing job like the world of showbusiness is! ^_^

Javito,I'm sorry, my friend, restating something that you repeat over and over again at novel-like lengths isn't convincing. Hearsay isn't convincing. I am well aware that you believe it. It's posted on many sites. Your campaigning to trash someone just because you don't like her career moves. I've never heard of a fanbase spamming the official site to try to get what they want. It shocks me and it appalls me. What's more, you speak to me as if I am a total invalid. When I campaigned to have your membership back I didn't envision that this vortex of negativity and bitterness would be created. I guess that's my fault, they saw what I didn't. I guess my memories of you were from earlier days. I've always valued your opinion, but you've become an extremist.
