Javito Posted September 22, 2013 at 06:54 PM Posted September 22, 2013 at 06:54 PM (edited) It is one of these fake stories they make during documentaries. Remember the lame moment during ''Celine:Through The Eyes Of The World'' where she complained about her vocal condition? She said she didn't know if she could make it and THEN they showed us the big note of ''All By Myself'' in order to impress everyone, as if she was able to belt it out despite her issues. Little do people know that this note was lipped too which totally invalidates the point of the scene. Are you kidding? You mean that was all faked??? I can't believe she could fake that and lie the fans with her pain Maybe she didn't really hit the note but they edited the audio in postproduction to make us believe she really did, but that's out of her control if they manipulated the DVD. And that Rene didn't like it? It was during the OWN special in 2011. It's not that Rene doesn't like it, but he was afraid the song was too edgy for the show which has more of a classic feel and theme. Celine said she had to push for it to be included. However Luke is insinuating that it's just a made up story (like is often the case in pop music) for the sake of highlighting something or other. It's kind of like how the story behind the recording of MHWGO is quite inconsistent depending on who tells it (For awhile everyone said it was done in one take, but then there's clips of James Horner saying it was done in 2 takes, etc.). A lot of music industry legends are just clever fairy tales meant to dramatize the real story.Luke's justification for this theory is that if you look at the majority of her lipping throughout her career, it's not necessarily done for the hardest songs or the oldest ones, but the ones she's bored of since they've been performed to death (the "signature" hits: POL, IACBTMN, MHWGO) Edited September 22, 2013 at 07:00 PM by Your_Su_Phu 1 Quote
Nmj Posted September 22, 2013 at 06:58 PM Posted September 22, 2013 at 06:58 PM I have to agree with Javito, sometimes whether it's done purposely or not Celine feels like a puppet in her own career. I also agree that Celine also likes it that way, she comes off as content with "them" making the decisions and her just singing but I do believe the setlist of each show and tour should be decided by 2 people ONLY, and those people are Celine a Mego, whether you like Mego or not he's the conductor of her band and that's that. Sometimes I really do wish Celine was more like Mariah in terms of being decider of her career ONLY like her in that one aspect of course. 2 Quote
Your_Su_Phu Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:02 PM Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:02 PM Also when a story has been established, Celine tends to repeat it ad nauseam for the rest of her career, even down to the phrasing. This may or may not be because of her lack of command in the English language. 2 Quote

Yes, however James Horner wasn't there for that second recording which was produced (over-produced, I should say) by Walter Afanasieff and included electric guitar and a different ending note and instrumentation. James was talking about the original "demo" which they apparently just ended up putting orchestral instrumentation around because it was already so perfect Edited September 22, 2013 at 07:10 PM by Your_Su_Phu Quote

Sometimes I really do wish Celine was more like Mariah in terms of being decider of her career ONLY like her in that one aspect of course. And say that Mego thinks the same as many fans who want to see changes and include more of her songs in her concerts too I remember that someone of this forum (I think it was Shamrock?) interviewed him and Andre Coutu and it seems they're craving for changes in the songs setlist since long ago. They are aware of fans wanting more of her songs that she hasn't performed before in her concerts, and apparently they think the same way. I remember that one of the favourite songs Mego would like to get back in her concerts is "Falling Into You". Well, at least they let Mego write and play his "Flamenco" song during the TCWT, I'm sure he enjoyed that moment in the concert! So if Celine is sick of singing her classics, imagine how must feel these guys, who have been her band since the paleolithic. I feel sorry for them, but someone really needs to give credit to these people and let them play the songs they want at least for ONE concert! The idea of a "fan request concert" needs to come true. And René needs to stop silencing all these people in Céline's team, including Céline herself. She and her band are the ones who are breaking their a## night after night since 1996 singing all the same songs all the time, and they feel sick about it but he doesn't listen. It's just not fair. CelinesDIVO5 Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:08 PM Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:08 PM (edited) You have to understand that the new show reflects her image, not her discography. The comment they made that this show is the is most ''Celine'' show she has ever done is based on the fact that the show is very elegant, classy and polished. Like Celine is. You take it the wrong way when you think this statement was in regards to her studio recordings. They are not dumb to imply the show reflects her discography, when it is obvious to everyone that half of the songs she performs are new covers. You also disagree that the show was ''made for the fans''. Well, the show has been 100% sold-out, even during Summer 2013 it didn't drop below 93% in capacity which means their endevor is very successful, because the fans support it. If some people (you included) disagree about the content of the show, then this is because her team could never please everyone. It is up to opinion. It's not like they failed to present a show her fans would enjoy. I also need to say that Celine is not a victim The fact that sings these covers live every night is the ultimate proof she wanted them to be part of the show. The majority of her past material is lipped. I'm shocked that you use The Reason as an example of Celine trying to make a change in other people's decisions when in facts she lips the song each night showing that she doesn't really care about it. All these facts combined should ring many bells: The woman is sick and tired of a good portion of her singles-discography. Therefore, including some never-sung-before covers in her show was the best way to keep Celine interested. She recently stated in Access Hollywood that she was happy with the fact that these songs were slowly taken out of her upcoming album, but there is no contradiction here, as you think there is. This doesn't mean she didn't want the covers in the first place. It means that she felt like these songs already served their purpose and this purpose was to make her concerts less boring for her. Once she focued on the recording of her upcoming album, it made total sense to prefer the new, modern songs over the old covers she sang the past 3 years. I think that people who are over 40 or 50 years old are big fans, as they buy expensive tickets to attend her shows. These people were in their 30s when Celine reached her commercial peak, so chances are they know very well what her discography is about. About your comment of Celine selling her soul from an artistic point of view. First, let's clear out that her artistry lies in her performing skills (''I was born to do that, don't forget''). Therefore the fact that she went from minimalistic shows in small arenas (D'eux Tour) to theatrical concerts in Vegas (A New Day) and then from an energetic, bombastic world tour (Taking Chances) to an orchestral show (Celine) proves the evolution of Celine as an artist. She has proved over the years she is such a versatile performer and her current show adds to that characterization! On top of that, her singing has improved as well (you praised her current vocals in your previous comment), so there you have Celine sounding amazing AND reaching another peak as a performer. Wita19 Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:14 PM Posted September 22, 2013 at 07:14 PM If you look what we got in the past 25 years. I don’t think other fan groups have gotten this much. Albums in two languages, books, concerts, shows, projects. We may not like everything. Each fan has probably loved something else but we got it. Exactly, we are very privileged fans! Sometimes better not to think too much and just enjoy what we have On the other hand... So... puppet or not, she's still told what songs to record and what to perform in her concerts, and I'm sad she hasn't more power to speak her mind and make her voice count. Not that she should feel angry or bad about that, I guess she's totally used to giving in Not that they tell her today "Celine, you have to record one album in english now and another one in french tomorrow" and she can't refuse, of course she can! We perfectly know music is in a very good background in her life, but once she's into doing a new project like an album or creating a concert's setlist of songs, I'm sure she still trusts in others opinion first place and looks for advice, instead of taking her own decissions and following her creative instincts. She wants to please too much the people with whom she works and that's not good. That's the point! She's to good for everyone. We always say that she's nice and doesn't want to hurt anybody. But sometimes I want her to be more... independent? She should oppose the team sometimes and say what she wants! 2 Quote The Best Is Yet To Come...
