divaslive98 Posted July 13, 2013 at 04:35 AM Posted July 13, 2013 at 04:35 AM (edited) In reality, it's one of three things: 1. DM is pissed that the song was dropped because he expected to make a lot of money off of it and is now realizing that he'll actually have to write another hit record if he is going to be able to maintain his rock star lifestyle. He's angry and delusional, and Celine is the victim. Celine had her heart set on releasing the song as the first single, because it would make her seem "young" and "fresh," but Sony wised up and convinced her to rebrand the album around some new exciting track that will be more mainstream-friendly. The album will flop, and he will eventually be vindicated. 2. Celine and Rene have decided to release this song as a buzz single on iTunes etc. and are renegotiating to keep a larger share of the royalties. Let's all imagine for a moment that the song is a killer vocal track, highlighting insane pyrotechnics in a later section we have not yet seen. DM is upset and disillusioned by a project he was once excited by (and would have given great promotion for) and has decided to pull the song from the album, out of artistic principle. We will never hear one of Celine's greatest recordings! They've done it before, to so many songwriters, and they'll do it again. The album will be a huge success in spite of this, and DM will fade into oblivion, broke and addicted to heroin, cursing himself for being so foolish. He will die a broken man. 3. Celine and Rene are living in an alternate reality in which they strongly believe that both the album and the show should be called "Water and a Flame," and DM is pissed that they are infringing on his trademark. The song is debuted at Les Plaines and goes viral; the official version is released as a digital single; the song is inserted into the Las Vegas show in advance of the TV special, "Live From Las Vegas: Water and a Flame," featuring an extensive new show concept dedicated to showcasing the album. Coty begins releasing a new fragrance called "Water and a Flame," which will be sold with the deluxe edition coinciding with the holidays. "Water and a Flame: Parfum Edition" will feature his and her's eau de toilette fragrances named simply "Water" and "A Flame." Each fragrance will be paired with one of the Parfum Edition's two discs, "Water" and "A Flame," and will feature scent bouquets selected by Nelson and Eddie, with the help of a cutting edge scent therapist trained to work with infants. In what Oprah will hail as a "miracle perfume," the scents of water, fire, and babies will come together in an epic explosion of smell-tacular proportions. These two parfums will also be pumped into the Coliseum during the two halves of the new show: "Water and a Flame," which will introduce a new element -- fire -- to the already water-themed show. It is unclear whether the perfume will at any point catch fire because of the flames, igniting the entire Coliseum and killing Celine, but it is a risk Rene is willing to take. DM sues, but the whole fiasco has already grossed over a billion dollars in total, so there's really nothing he can do about it. He is offered a huge settlement and lives out the rest of his days in an indie songwriter's nightmare, perpetually the butt of Celine Dion jokes. divaslive98 Posted July 13, 2013 at 05:18 AM Posted July 13, 2013 at 05:18 AM What I want to happen: I want them to drop the song, the Adele concept, the whole "Water and a Flame" thing entirely. It seems to signify Las Vegas / her Vegas show and thus would be a disservice to her fans who expect Celine's albums to be independent artworks, each one a totally new universe of Celine to explore and delight in, separate from Las Vegas. The album should be called "Between Two Worlds," and the lead single should be an English recording of "Entre Deux Mondes," by Celine, written by Celine, her first truly "signature" song, and a recording that will win her both accolades and attention from a surprising array of listeners. This concept will allow the "opposites" concept to truly come together in a way that doesn't draw reference to Las Vegas, and thus will allow the album to stand on its own as a creative effort tied together by the very first song Celine has ever written, like a grand recapitulation of her career, a symphonic melange of all of her various vocal identities, presented each in a different style. But also with big names thrown in and huge collaborations that get tens of millions of Youtube plays. I want "Between Two Worlds" to be like the most epic buzz single in Celine's career, something that could be considered a "game changer" in terms of her overall perception by the music industry, media, etc. The album's concept would be a dynamic and intimately personal eclecticism, which would return it to the sonic milieu of FIY, but with a radically modern twist, a statement of creative authority. "If Celine wasn't really 'taking chances' last time around, she sure is taking them now," they'll say! Let's all brainstorm what we want the translated lyrics to be (this can be a cooperative effort with the Francophone forum) and start a petition! Quote
browseceline Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:28 PM Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:28 PM (edited) Here is another great video where she talks about the songwriters (in a series of different interviews throughout her career). The whole clip is good to watch but you can skip ahead to 3:12. Talk about DM not doing HIS homework….. She's openly talked about this for years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJUEDZXtgv4 interesting.. i would say.. Daniel Merriweather EAT THAT! do your homework first before you say things that you will regret for a long long time because that flame of hope you had,to be heard, is quickly fading away. And it is your own stupid fault.. I think he just got upset Céline didn't mention his name in the interview with Katie Couric. Quote

I know that and I understand, I'm not saying he's right. I think he's a huge a-s-s-hole. But I'm trying to understand how he thinks, from his point of view. He wanted to be mentionned because it's his song, he sang it, and it has a personal meaning for him. Celine is just covering the song, so he thinks he deserves to be acknoledged. He might not have reacted this way, had he written the song for her. Quote BRICEhttp://s17.postimg.org/7igcotu27/DFGHLK.jpg

dorfus Posted July 13, 2013 at 03:35 PM Posted July 13, 2013 at 03:35 PM I can understand where Daniel's coming from (he should've been acknowledged as at least one of the performers on the song, by Céline or her team at some point). However, I can't say that I condone his reaction. It was pretty harsh on Céline, and if he thought it through, he would've realised how potentially damaging it could be to his image and/or career. I'm not taking his side (so don't jump the gun, peeps!), I just think it would've only been fair. Imagine Céline wrote and recorded a song, and someone came along to cover it without mentioning Céline's name. She would be gracious about it, as she always is, but I'm sure it would have offended her. I think we would be going ballistic about it on her behalf, if somethinh like that ever happened. Still, if Daniel had kept his mouth shut, he would have been acknowledged as the songwriter/performer in due time. I won't name-call him, but I agree with you all: he was very unprofessional about the whole "incident", not to mention ungrateful. bilinkew Posted July 13, 2013 at 05:25 PM Posted July 13, 2013 at 05:25 PM More importantly with this whole Water and A Flame fiasco the song isn't even blooming released yet - hasn't been performed live in public or anything so he should have kept his big trap shut until the time of actual release anyway! Bored of the attention he has generated himself (actually really like some of the guys music, listen to his song 'Red' for example) want to hear some proper, constructive and exciting news about the album now x 2 Quote

Singers don't really credit songwriters during interviews and they rarely mention the original performers of the song they cover. I don't think Celine has mentioned Eric Carmen or Jennifer Rush or Heart before. Thing is that none of them complained. Thinking what the difference is between these singers and Daniel Merriweather I came to conclusion that all these artists, unlike Daniel, had success and a solid career. Daniel is IN NEED of fame, attention, success, so he can't swallow that a chance to be mentioned was gone. It was his fault, in my opinion, to have these high expectations. Many singers cover Celine songs and never credit her or the songwriter, one has to see covers of The Prayer, Just Walk Away, I Love You-Goodbye, Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore. It just happens. R.d Phillips Posted July 13, 2013 at 10:48 PM Posted July 13, 2013 at 10:48 PM Everyone know Celine does not write her own songs, If I'm not mistaken during the same Katie Couric interview Celine mentioned that she does not write her own songs, if I'm wrong then I must have gotten it mixed up with another Celine interview, after all she mentions in almost every interview that she is in that she does not write her own songs, I do not understand why Daniel Merriweather was pretty excited about celine singing his song and then wait until like two months after the Katie Couric episode had already aired to make a point, I mean Celine has always given credit to her songwriters, The song was originally a duet between Daniel Merriweather and Adele, maybe if this drama had not started Daniel and Celine Could have song the song together for a special performance, You cannot really hate the guy for being protective of his song but he did over react I mean the song has not nor the album has not even came out yet, Here's all I'm saying, if celine talked about adele on the Katie Couric show and if celine gave "all the credit to adele" then the Daniel merriweather fans or true fans of the waaf song would have known better and known it wasn't a adele song, Just doesn't make sense Quote http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site36/2009/0225/20090225_100519_00030541_H6124821_200.jpg

Duchess Posted August 5, 2013 at 05:26 AM Posted August 5, 2013 at 05:26 AM While I think hes totally overacted and his fans are being mean I cant help but see his point, im sure that makes me unpopular but yeah the "there opposites" reply says it all. If youd written a song youd be upset too. Especially if it was so personal. Put it this way, celine sings fly about karine, imagine if she had written it, her most personal song, and one direction did a cover. They showed a talk show and someone asked what is fly about, and they said "erm I dunno a bird" Imagine how we as fans would react, and how celine would feel that everyone just thought the song was about a bird? Why didnt rene just say well the person that wrote the song was speaking about.......... She did it with my love always said how linda perry had sent her a song about herself. She usually credits the writers, think about how many times she has said about carol king, georgemartin, james horner, the bee gees, diane warren, kara, dave stewart etc. She could have just mentioned she recieved a song by 2 great writers. Its easy to look at this as celine fans but again put yourself in the place of them by imagining if one directin or smebody else did that to celine, i dont particularly like daniel merriweather, ive only heard his song red, but as a human being i can totally see where he is coming from, he wrote that song about somebody, it means something, and it is not about the opposites, and to say it is is sort of taking credit for the meaning of the song i.e the writing. I dont think celine is in the wrong, and i do think he over reacted, im just saying that i can see why his first response was to be upset i have just seen all this much ado about nothing. have read your post and disagree with you on the whole mentioning this daniel person's name. while she has mentioned others e.g. bee gees, carole king etc, these are well known people in the industry. who is daniel? he is still an up and coming artist that needs to gain the respect from the industry as an artist and singer, and that takes years.
