We can all agree that this guy's claims were an overreaction that had no basis in the facts about Celine/her character OR what actually happened with the song. He's as wrong as can be and he is confused.

However, I think Celine fans on here are overreacting themselves. Stop interpreting every Facebook page post of his as a shot at Celine...that post he made with the word "thief" was from a book introduction that he thought described Australia. That photo of him holding up his middle finger had some reference to the band The Red Hot Chili Peppers. This guy is obviously an attention whore, but he's not focusing every waking second on Celine and slighting her at every moment.

I understand the dislike for him and the actions he has taken. As a punishment, many are saying that his song should be dropped. Well, I think this is a bit of an overreaction. I mean, it wouldn't be surprising if Celine's team did this. However, this situation is EASILY solvable...it was basically over when Celine had an official comment on her website. Any other actions it would take to fix this and "save" the song/album is a personal phone call from Celine/Rene or her team to Daniel's people...or they could do it through Sony. The whole project isn't doomed because of this AT ALL.

Many people are saying they didn't like the song in the first place. Some say they did. EXCUSE ME? We haven't even heard the song!!! We have heard a snippet of her recording a few lines in the studio!! We know nothing of how this song will sound overall when it's released, nor do we know the impact it will have. Some people just never like(d) the idea of Celine doing any more covers ever and are half-glad this scandal has come along as a reason to drop a title cover from the album. Some are even saying that maybe this will teach Celine a lesson to stay away from covers. Again, sorry what was that? As if Daniel's actions are commonplace at all? This is a once in a lifetime event. No other songwriter would do what this guy is doing after having Celine cover their song. If Celine releases the album/song, the public (99 percent of whom do not even know a word of what's been going on) will not care and the songs themselves will receive all the attention. Celine will make this song her own as she does with every other one...so to me it seems a bit ridiculous to say that one wouldn't be able to enjoy the song WAAF after these events. It's not as though Daniel is co-singing with her.

No there we go again... so annoying these people that suddenly stand up to bash Celine anonymous. I wonder why youtube never censures the reactions. How often people post negative and worse reactions on youtube, it is not normal. Sometimes racistic or even worse. It does say enough about those people though and I hope Celine does not see those reactions, because they are from a bunch of very dumb people. I even think those people are not fans of DM at all but just use this to bash Celine, just because they never liked her and now have a reason to bash her... plain dumb

I believe so, DM is unknown artist theres no way he had a huge fan base all over the world. It must be just Celine hater who found a way to bash Celine. I'm not worry about that because they bash celine from a long long time a go but never can do any har coz Celine too strong.

This whole thing seems a bit overblown to me. It seems like it could have started out as a genuine misunderstanding -- to anyone who follows Celine regularly, it's obvious that she doesn't write her songs, and if she talks about what a song means, she's talking about why she loves it and what it means to *her*, not claiming credit for the writing. And we all know she regularly gives credit and thanks to writers and producers. But if you're *not* someone who follows Celine regularly -- and if you're a songwriter yourself -- I could see how it's possible to interpret Celine's statements as implying that she wrote the song herself. Basically, a misunderstanding. And yes - DM handled it quite poorly - his comments were rude, the personal attack on Celine was unwarranted, and he seems to be milking it for publicity -- and the statement today was even worse, because he should have just apologized when he realized he was wrong, not make up something silly about thinking she was crediting Adele (she doesn't even *mention* Adele in relation to WAAF; it's just the topic of conversation right before they talk about WAAF.)

But the whole thing seems silly to me. . the guy made some rude, inappropriate comments following a misunderstanding, and suddenly it's a "controversy" covered in the news everywhere. Just seems waaaay out of proportion to the issue.

i agree drop the f*cking song already........i actually like the snippets and the original now its totally ruined for me....naming the album after this song will be a horrid move by Celine and her team as well as sony....we dont want any part of DM any association due to the gross disrespect he has shown to Celine.. cause at the end of the day when we the fans buy the Cds ...some royalties goes to him.... :wtf: ... i will say it Drop the F*cking song....The "water and a Flame" concept has changed...we need some thing original not a tainted song by an a**hole who will benefit from royalties...who has been totally disrespectful. Let'S be realistic ...from a business stand point,if you have a product that is tainted YOU GET RID OF IT... it's in Celine's and her team as well as Sony's best interest to change the title of this album...The title doesn't have to come from a song on the album...At this point anything other Than "water and a Flame is fine by me..DREAM IN COLOUR

I agree that not all might not be fans of his. I saw one guy post a comment on Celine and he was just completely bashing her and he was saying some things that had nothing to do with Daniel. Just saying stuff that Celine was stupid because she can't sing correctly and that said Christina Aguilera was the best voice in the world. Now just looking at his name I realized he was one of those vocal pedagogue people who at times slams Celine on "youtube"-Sorry if I wasn't supposed to say this but it he made me mad when he called her "stupid" and that wasn't his first time saying it either.

And maybe this DM or his "fanbase" have thought for a second that Celine Dion fans are nothing but a handful of dull people in their 60's that are not online and present in the social networks? He couldn't be more WRONG :giggle:

He thought and them thought wrong. We went to battle with him and we were heard somewhere. That means that fans can have the power to change the things that are happening with their favorite singer. I love that we stuck together and that we would just about anything to protect Celine.

Any legal action can Celine take on this issue?

All of his accusations towards Celine about "stealing" his song could be considered as slander?

Now that I've actually taken the time to listen to the song, the lyrics aren't even that spectacular? Have you guys checked it out? The music is fantastic with the orchestrations that Celine had for her cover but the lyrics? I could've written them.

Seven days has gone so fast

I really thought the pain would pass

Its been nearly an hour since I thought of you

cause you're not answering the phone

I'd settle for a busy tone

at least by that I know, that you're okay

A girl like you ain't meant to go away

[Chorus]

And now you're gone, there's nothing else I want

And now that its over, there's nothing else I want

What have I done, looks I was wrong

Is everything really meant to change?

I guess were like water and a flame

Almost rubbish if you ask me.

Nobody said they need to change "the whole project" just for one song. But they do need to cut off this song from the album after what happened, and especially not naming the album after it. Can you have an idea what a burden it would be for Céline and the bad press that this album will have forever because of this unfortunate event? This guy has been so disrespectful and ungrateful to Céline, how can you defend him and still want a song from someone who clearly dislikes that Céline has recorded it? :wtf: To me its evident this guy is crying out that he doesn't want Céline to have his song covered by Celine, with such disrespectful comments about her!

Many people are saying they didn't like the song in the first place. Some say they did. EXCUSE ME? We haven't even heard the song!!! We have heard a snippet of her recording a few lines in the studio!! We know nothing of how this song will sound overall when it's released, nor do we know the impact it will have.

But we do know the full version in his voice, and its crap. No need to hear more after what we've seen with this inmature childish songwriter.

Some people just never like(d) the idea of Celine doing any more covers ever and are half-glad this scandal has come along as a reason to drop a title cover from the album.

Hummm... Yes.

Some are even saying that maybe this will teach Celine a lesson to stay away from covers.

Ermmm... Yes? :innocent:

Again, sorry what was that? As if Daniel's actions are commonplace at all? This is a once in a lifetime event. Public maybe will not care but they will know when the press bombards Céline in every interview about this embarrasing episode if they decide to keep the song in the album, or what's worst, to give the title of the album after it. It will be a burden for her, don't you see?

There are probably thousands of songs waiting for Céline which are greater than this song and thousand of songwriters who would kill to have their songs sang by her just for once. Why can't she give the chance to someone who really deserves that and appreciates Céline? This guy clearly proved he doesn't, and that's enough reason to drop the song :thumbsup2:

I will quote Luke because he sums up very well the reasons to forget about this song and this boy.

Daniel...

1) lied that Celine stole his song.

2) attacked her on a personal level.

3) lied again that Celine thought ''Water and a Flame'' was an Adele song.

4) implied Celine is using Adele to boost her sales.

After all these, are there still people who don't mind if Celine uses HIS song as the album title? I know I'll be disappointed with Celine. I want them to show some dignity.

... Drop The Song!

I think this is one of the better put comments:

Sandra Thumper Sasvári Daniel,

I have been an avid Celine fan for 15 years. During that time, I have heard her talk time and time again about how she does not write her own songs. How she feels she doesn't need to; because she has so many great songwriters that write so many amazing songs for her. She has always been very vocal, and never ashamed, about this fact. That she did not specifically mention that you wrote a song she recorded does not mean that she is indirectly taking the credit for it or insinuating that she wrote it. She wouldn't. She praises her songwriters time and time again and is always very humble at the fact that so many are wanting her to sing what they have written. It is an honour, after all, to have someone pour their heart out into a piece and ask for you to record it. Celine is very aware of this.

When a song is covered by her - or anyone - credit is ALWAYS given in the booklet of the album. Always. That the singer in question does not mention who the writer of a song is every time she performs it or speaks of it really is not that strange because it would simply be impossible. That one of the biggest female singers in the world wants to record your song...is an honour. She has said repeatedly that since she receives about 1,000 songs a year, she has to feel something for the ones she ends up choosing, or it won't work. If she doesn't feel it, it won't happen. You may not know this, but she almost did not record "My Heart Will Go On" because she originally could not emotionally connect with the song. It wasn't until the concept of the story and Jack and Rose's love story in the movie was explained to her, that she felt something from it and decided to do it. So the fact that she has chosen YOUR SONG, out of all the countless that she receives every month, is nothing short of an honour. Like you said; this song has every ounce of your heart ache and pain in it and she felt that. THAT is why she decided to record it, not because she wants to claim it as her own to take the credit.

During the 15 years I have followed this woman, never once has she ever been anything but the epitome of humility and grace. She is always very, VERY meticulous with letting us know that she would never be able to do what she does without the talents of the people she surrounds herself with. Her dancers, her musicians, her band that's been with her for over 20 years...her songwriters, her producers, and her production team. She would not have the career she does if her manager had not taken out a second mortgage on his home to finance her first record, or if the song writers she's been around since the age of 12 did not share their art with her. She knows this. She has no illusions about her own importance or any deluded sense of self-grandeur, and she is, quite frankly, one of the most humble and down-to-earth people in the industry.

Yes, she is the biggest selling female artist of all time. She appreciates this fully. But if you were to mention that to her, she'd rather tell you about her three sons and how they made sand sculptures together at the beach the other day, or that she burned the roast when she tried cooking a meal for her husband because she's not as great a cook as she'd like to be. She is grateful for everything that she has achieved, and she knows she's very fortunate, but she does not - would not - ever brag. There are no gold records or awards on display in her home, not because she doesn't appreciate them but simply because her home is a regular home like any other. Her values, her family life, are like any other. Her home is about her family, not her career. She saves and stores it all, but it is not the most important thing in her life and therefore does not take center stage in her home. I don't know about you, but for a woman that's sold 200 million albums and is celebrated as the most talented vocalist of modern time...that's pretty darn humble.

Today's music industry is tough. If you are not someone that is willing to compromise your integrity and art for the sake of ratings in one of the countless talent TV shows available, you don't stand much chance. Competition is fierce, and "making it" is harder than ever. When those are the conditions you face as an inspiring singer, songwriter, and musician, every chance you get to have your name out there counts. I get that. That does not, however, mean that those that are already successful owe you a mention every time they speak or that they are conceited if they don't. If you could get to have a conversation with Celine and tell her about your aspirations, she would tell you to go for it no matter what, and to never give up. That's the kind of person that she is. Spend five minutes in her company, and you will realize that.

Celine has been in the industry for 32 years and she still cries when she loses her voice. She still cries on stage singing if something touches her, or breaks her heart. She is in no way a diva; not at all a superstar in any sense other than what her career has made her. She's just Celine. If you have a little time to spare, sit down and watch an interview or two...chances are the person you see talking is not the way you think she is.

I wish you good luck with everything in the future...follow your heart and your vision, maintain your integrity, and stay humble like she has done, and all will work out well.

If Rene had his head screwed on, he would be calling up all the best songwriters asking for an edgy song full of attitude in response to this event to use as the first single. I would love to see Celine singing with genuine passion and anger inside of her, slaying DM every time she performs it lol :giggle:

Yes, I think so. At first, I thought there might be misunderstanding between Celine and Daniel, but Daniel's latest reply on Celine's official statement proofed that it is not. Therefore, I agree that it's absolutely slander in this case. I suggest Celine and her management to take legal action on this issue and sue Mr Merriweather.

I haven't really been vocal about my opinion on this whole Daniel Merriweather scandal except for a comment here or there, however I believe that while the first post that started the whole thing was awful, disrespectful, rude, and immature that when Celine's management responded it should have been settled. Then again this issue should never have been broadcasted all over the social media and instead handled like the "professional" he is claiming he is and through a private set of actions whether they be with Rene or Sony. After the response from Celine and her team if should have ended, but DM apparently can't back away gracefully and instead made another comment which he tried to pass of as an apology but then finished it off with snide, off-base, and uneducated remarks against Celine's name and career; to me this is when he truly took the issue beyond where it should go (imo it should never have happened publicly in the first place, if at all). The whole issue has nothing to do with it being a cover, the issue lies in the fact that I can practically guarantee you Eg White presented her with the song saying he wrote it (which he was apart of), played the track, and either possibly forgot to mention DM or maybe he did. In the Katie interview never once did Celine say who wrote the song, the comments about Adele were prior to it, and Rene's flop of answer about what WAAF stood for was in regards to the album title, NOT the song.

I do not believe the song should be dropped because I think it may cause additional scandal because some people (and they are out there) will take it as an omission of the theft, which would not be the case in the slightest. Do I think that it should remain the album title? No. Not at all. Should it be the lead single? Nope. Even if they do drop the song like so many want, I cannot see Rene and Sony allowing to be "leaked" so it would still be released but DM would gain nothing at all from it. That just isn't Rene and Celine's style.

I stated earlier that some of his remarks and accusations could be considered as slander and it would not surprise me if Rene and Celine took some form of legal action. It would not be all that shocking, look at what they did to get a blog removed on tumblr that posted pictures of Celine making weird faces while she sung and whatnot.

To conclude, I fully believe that DM was completely in the wrong here and has only tarnished his name by being so immature. He was aware that Celine was covering his song because in April he made a post about it and said it was such an honor. This recent uproar by him was after the sister of his producer told him Celine claimed the song was her own on Katie! and only days prior to a release of DM's newest song. What better way to get your name out there than to verbally attack and slander the world's largest selling female artist? I see this a ploy for him to simply gain some spotlight and I am terribly disgusted by it.

Now, this is the whole question: to what extent is she really acting professionally as a singer? Or is she not artistic, but rather after gaining as much fortune and fame..

DM definitely cares for more than just that; I think he deserves some credits as an artist/songwriter, who cares for his music

besides that, he overreacts... of course

 You are fooled. Just because he thinks he is artistic, doesn't mean he is artistic. I only see one who is trying to gaining as much fortune and fame...DM.

And he has just thrown away his own song. So much for caring.

And he would have received his credits on the new album if he wasn't such a baby.

He deserves very little this week, maybe a kick somewhere :innocent: .

I'm telling if this second time isn't enough for management to cut the song, they may be terribly stupid.

Absolutely cut the song and change the album title. I'm pretty sure lawyers will be getting involved. Erne is very protective of her image and this is not needed just as promo for this album is about to begin. Kick him off the album. Tosser.

My god this has now made the Toronto Star and the Huffington Post--major audience attention:

http://www.thestar.c...off_artist.html

http://www.huffingto..._n_3551468.html

The song needs to be dropped!!!!!!!! It's not that stellar to begin with. Convinced now more than ever Incredible needs to be first single with Ne-Yo or at least a "new" song.

THIS BETTER NOT DELAY THE ALBUM AGAIN!!!!!

(But then again, you know what they say----any press is good press--at least they be talking about the new record :)

The headline from the Huffington Post article (Celine Dion Using Adele? 'Water And A Flame' Songwriter Says Dion Exploiting Brit, Not Crediting Him) sounds so ridiculous and absurd. Edited by Jeff Abbott

I wish we'd just get the first single. PAMP was out this time last year and the album was not out until November

Release anything but WAAF and this mess with Daniel will die off

Nobody said they need to change "the whole project" just for one song. But they do need to cut off this song from the album after what happened, and especially not naming the album after it. Can you have an idea what a burden it would be for Céline and the bad press that this album will have forever because of this unfortunate event? This guy has been so disrespectful and ungrateful to Céline, how can you defend him and still want a song from someone who clearly dislikes that Céline has recorded it? :wtf: To me its evident this guy is crying out that he doesn't want Céline to have his song covered by Celine, with such disrespectful comments about her!

But we do know the full version in his voice, and its crap. No need to hear more after what we've seen with this inmature childish songwriter.

Hummm... Yes.

Ermmm... Yes? :innocent:

Public maybe will not care but they will know when the press bombards Céline in every interview about this embarrasing episode if they decide to keep the song in the album, or what's worst, to give the title of the album after it. It will be a burden for her, don't you see?

There are probably thousands of songs waiting for Céline which are greater than this song and thousand of songwriters who would kill to have their songs sang by her just for once. Why can't she give the chance to someone who really deserves that and appreciates Céline? This guy clearly proved he doesn't, and that's enough reason to drop the song :thumbsup2:

The whole project would NOT be doomed by having this song on the album. People are being way too sensitive, precautionary, and paranoid about that. I never defended DM, he is nothing but an ant. Celine does not need protection from this ant or his ant-sized scandal. Celine could, if she wanted to, promote the album by singing another song from it besides his during TV promo appearances...then no one would even utter the name "Daniel". What is the worse that could happen? Imagine Ellen asking a question about it. Celine would simply clarify and it would be over...she could simply spout of her official statement from her website and the interview would move right along. The ONLY way this whole situation would be a scandal that would actually be talked about and a problem is if Celine was guilty of what she was accused of--on a Facebook page mind you.

Celine is not guilty. Therefore people would not be hesitant to buy the album for this mini "scandal".

People have not even heard the actual song. An opinion of a snippet matters little and doesn't necessarily predict the reaction to the full song...Celine fans should know this very well. We have heard a snippet of Celine recording it. You may or may not like Daniel/Adele's original version, but Celine's talent and a fresh, different take on the song likely have taken it places--especially with the help of a producer like Eg White...at the very least, Celine will deliver great vocals.

Having said all of this, my point is that some people are using this non-scandal to make non-rational conclusions that justify an action that they have wanted to take place from the beginning.
