Popular Post idroveallnight Posted July 12, 2013 at 03:52 AM Popular Post Posted July 12, 2013 at 03:52 AM (edited) All I can say is thank God! I did not like the song to begin with. I thought the title was just so awkward and unfitting. Plus Celine did not sound all that great in the clip she played for Katie Couric, and Katie even agreed it did not sound like her. They're better off going in an entirely new direction. Doesn't make sense for this punk to be earning royalties off this album while disrespecting her. Don't pay him the least bit attention--it's all jealousy. Remember Etta James attacking Beyonce for singing "At Last"? She should have been honored that Beyonce was introducing her song to a whole new generation of fans. In fact, I didn't even know who the hell Etta James was before Celine recorded her song. The same goes for whatever this guy's name is who wrote this crappy song. Had no clue who he was. Rather than looking at what an amazing opportunity this could have been for him, he is just blacklisting himself to opportunities with other potential artists who would have reached out to him because of his association with Celine. How many actors do you know when they are promoting a movie even mention one word about the writers during interviews. Not one! You know why? Because their freakin' names are in the credits just like this dumb guy's name would have been in the album's liner notes. All I can say is this guy is a fool. He lost out on a major opportunity. As Kara Dioguardi said, any songwriter that gets their song recorded by Celine has literally hit the songwriter's jackpot. Too bad pride got in his way. He's a writer, not a celebrity. Not putting writers down, I'm a writer myself, but part of being a writer is understanding that you will always remain lurking in the shadows to some extent. You get your personal satisfaction from writing things that others find worth reading or listening to, not from winning Pulitzer prizes and making a ton of money (that stuff is just icing on the cake). It is definitely not a career you go into to get rich or for the recognition (again, just icing on the cake). For all the writers out there who would give anything to have their work recorded by an amazing talent like Celine without wanting to puff themselves up and get attention, I hope Celine picks up one of your songs and gives you the chance of the lifetime this jerk threw in the garbage. Clearly this guy is in it for the wrong reasons and shouldn't be afforded the opportunity thousands of writers out there are praying for. One last thing: what terrible life is he talking about that Celine can't even fathom? Does he mean growing up in a 2-bedroom house with 13 older siblings? Does he mean getting taunted to death by peers at school because of the way he looked? Does he mean having to prove himself 100 times harder because he didn't speak English? Does he mean having his own niece die in his arms from a debilitating disease? Does he mean having to live through his spouse's battle with cancer? Or does he mean going through a dozen IVF treatments? Take your 'water' and your 'flame' to someone just as pompous as you and have them record it. Even if Celine does end up using your song, I'm just going to hit skip on the cd player. Edited July 12, 2013 at 03:55 AM by idroveallnight 13 Quote

stevo Posted July 12, 2013 at 08:06 AM Posted July 12, 2013 at 08:06 AM I'm sorry to keep this Merriweather thing going but I am in disbelief that he is so publicly disrespecting someone of Celine's stature. He is a song writer and his song has been picked up by someone so phenomenally successful and all he can do is sarcastically and cryptically diss her. The 'beautiful', the 'business associates'- he doesn't think she's beautiful, he's being sarcastic, and he obviously is alluding to her 'doing it only for the money'. I'm not stirring the pot but I really do hope they completely drop it. 6 Quote

couldawouldashoulda Posted July 12, 2013 at 12:38 PM Posted July 12, 2013 at 12:38 PM Bigger fish to fry? Again another back handed compliment! Whatever DM , Celine & her fans also have bigger fish to fry with her upcoming album :-)he should fry his fish now, they don't last long. Actually, if you go back and read the quote that is posted on page 268, he says "*smaller* fish to fry", not bigger. I took that to mean that he knows he got in over his head with one of the biggest stars of all time and is throwing the big fish that he caught back in the water. 1 Quote
celinefan1985 Posted July 12, 2013 at 12:43 PM Posted July 12, 2013 at 12:43 PM (edited) Everything about this song is weak. From the production to the way Celine sings it and her pronounciation is dreadful. This is what happens when she records seperately from the producer. Although we all feel the same way about DM, the song is much more current and fresh. Celine calls her raspiness a "more relaxed" vocal. I think it sounds like a frog. I prefer her clearer, pure voice. I think she may have wanted to emulate some of Adele's sound but it doesn't suit. Celine is all about her beautiful voice, it doesn't need to ve tweaked, altered auto-tuned. For a fresh sound, she can go in the direction of Moi Quand Je Pleure. Still vintage Dion but with a playful twist Edited July 12, 2013 at 12:44 PM by celinefan1985 1 Quote

idroveallnight Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:36 AM Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:36 AM Release the song just to get attention? Please. Is CELINE DION really that desperate? What have we degraded her too, guys? Come on. Celine can have 10000000 new songs on her doorstep to record in the morning if she wanted and I guarantee you they would be infinity times better than this garbage called Water and a Flame that she previewed to Katie Couric. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is a clear cut sign that they just need to get over this song and move on to something else. A majority of us didn't like it to begin with, plus do we really want another cover?? She doesn't need this sorry @ss making money off of her for the rest of his life. Talk about biting the hand that's feeding you. He's just pathetic. 3 Quote
Javito Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:51 AM Posted July 13, 2013 at 12:51 AM 100% agree. The song sucks. The song doesn't need to be released anymore (at least in this album) and there are cents of songs which are far better than this one, for sure. But its not only about what happened with this song in the last weeks guys, we shouldn't be deceived ourselves. It's about the song and the music, which simply both elements are weak: if this was the best example of what they have in store for the new album, they've set the bar VERY low Please, let us move on with it, we can let go this f****** song and so Céline and René can. There are thousand of songs 1000 times better than this waiting for her. 3 Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
