I have to say that i was very upset as a huge Celine fan at what DM said. I do feel it has spoilt the song a bit for her. Any other artist would be really honoured that Celine would want to sing their song. Saying that though i think the best thing is not to give his unfair comments any more uneccessary energy than they derserve and to look forrward towards the new album, which will be incredible. Celine never disappoints vocally and i know its going to be an amazing album. Roll on October thats all Im saying!!

I love Celine!!!!!!!!!!

I agree on "understanding" a writer who gets frustrated because someone who interpreted his song pass it off as his/her own. Problem with DM is, he does not fall in this category, so I really can't "understand" him... There was clearly a misinterpretation on his part. Nowhere, as in nowhere, in the interview did Celine say or IMPLY that the song was hers...

I would have totally "understood" DM if, say, he went blabbering all over FB after being "told" about it by his DJ friend... but then after watching the video of the interview goes something like: "Oh wait! Celine didn't say/imply that my song was hers... My DJ friend must have misinterpreted it... Ok, im gonna post an apology on FB..." Problem is, he stood by his accusation of "stealing" even if it was clear as daylight from the interview that Celine said/implied nothing about owning the song...

We agree completely. So, she's no total genius, she knows how to interpret well, not to create, like a writer.

She is the best interpreter out there; unless she copy-cats like earlier mentioned examples etc etc.

To get back on topic a bit (since this is the DM 'scandal' thread); DM is a writer and singer at the same time.

Some say he is a genius in both.

He has problems with Celine interpreting/singing HIS song, like it's her own.

This whole discussion began (partly) because I stated that we should try to understand his position because of this (notwithstanding the way he operated was blunt and unworthy).

Shuch a pitty nobody wants to buy the albums of this genius called Daniel

As I said earlier, most of Daniel's fans are dumber than rocks, no question why they think his 2-notes-singing makes him a genius singer.

I think this is one of the better put comments:

Sandra Thumper Sasvári Daniel,

I have been an avid Celine fan for 15 years. During that time, I have heard her talk time and time again about how she does not write her own songs. How she feels she doesn't need to; because she has so many great songwriters that write so many amazing songs for her. She has always been very vocal, and never ashamed, about this fact. That she did not specifically mention that you wrote a song she recorded does not mean that she is indirectly taking the credit for it or insinuating that she wrote it. She wouldn't. She praises her songwriters time and time again and is always very humble at the fact that so many are wanting her to sing what they have written. It is an honour, after all, to have someone pour their heart out into a piece and ask for you to record it. Celine is very aware of this.

When a song is covered by her - or anyone - credit is ALWAYS given in the booklet of the album. Always. That the singer in question does not mention who the writer of a song is every time she performs it or speaks of it really is not that strange because it would simply be impossible. That one of the biggest female singers in the world wants to record your song...is an honour. She has said repeatedly that since she receives about 1,000 songs a year, she has to feel something for the ones she ends up choosing, or it won't work. If she doesn't feel it, it won't happen. You may not know this, but she almost did not record "My Heart Will Go On" because she originally could not emotionally connect with the song. It wasn't until the concept of the story and Jack and Rose's love story in the movie was explained to her, that she felt something from it and decided to do it. So the fact that she has chosen YOUR SONG, out of all the countless that she receives every month, is nothing short of an honour. Like you said; this song has every ounce of your heart ache and pain in it and she felt that. THAT is why she decided to record it, not because she wants to claim it as her own to take the credit.

During the 15 years I have followed this woman, never once has she ever been anything but the epitome of humility and grace. She is always very, VERY meticulous with letting us know that she would never be able to do what she does without the talents of the people she surrounds herself with. Her dancers, her musicians, her band that's been with her for over 20 years...her songwriters, her producers, and her production team. She would not have the career she does if her manager had not taken out a second mortgage on his home to finance her first record, or if the song writers she's been around since the age of 12 did not share their art with her. She knows this. She has no illusions about her own importance or any deluded sense of self-grandeur, and she is, quite frankly, one of the most humble and down-to-earth people in the industry.

Yes, she is the biggest selling female artist of all time. She appreciates this fully. But if you were to mention that to her, she'd rather tell you about her three sons and how they made sand sculptures together at the beach the other day, or that she burned the roast when she tried cooking a meal for her husband because she's not as great a cook as she'd like to be. She is grateful for everything that she has achieved, and she knows she's very fortunate, but she does not - would not - ever brag. There are no gold records or awards on display in her home, not because she doesn't appreciate them but simply because her home is a regular home like any other. Her values, her family life, are like any other. Her home is about her family, not her career. She saves and stores it all, but it is not the most important thing in her life and therefore does not take center stage in her home. I don't know about you, but for a woman that's sold 200 million albums and is celebrated as the most talented vocalist of modern time...that's pretty darn humble.

Today's music industry is tough. If you are not someone that is willing to compromise your integrity and art for the sake of ratings in one of the countless talent TV shows available, you don't stand much chance. Competition is fierce, and "making it" is harder than ever. When those are the conditions you face as an inspiring singer, songwriter, and musician, every chance you get to have your name out there counts. I get that. That does not, however, mean that those that are already successful owe you a mention every time they speak or that they are conceited if they don't. If you could get to have a conversation with Celine and tell her about your aspirations, she would tell you to go for it no matter what, and to never give up. That's the kind of person that she is. Spend five minutes in her company, and you will realize that.

Celine has been in the industry for 32 years and she still cries when she loses her voice. She still cries on stage singing if something touches her, or breaks her heart. She is in no way a diva; not at all a superstar in any sense other than what her career has made her. She's just Celine. If you have a little time to spare, sit down and watch an interview or two...chances are the person you see talking is not the way you think she is.

I wish you good luck with everything in the future...follow your heart and your vision, maintain your integrity, and stay humble like she has done, and all will work out well.

Best,

Sandra Sasvari, Sweden

From DM on his fb:

"I'm so fvcking busy right now making music and co writing a play, not to mention my fair share of naval gazing... why do people think everything i say on here is in reference to a beautiful, accomplished canadian singer who does nothing but the best she can for her fans and business associates... i have much smaller and more important fish to fry!"

What does this mean?

I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

It means the topic is closed and he has moved on... and so should we.

Maybe he and his management even had contact with Céline's and they came to terms.

I think it is very sarcastic and denigrating again. If he had a conversation with Celine and/or her team it did not end very well.

I also think he is a A...

So now I am done with DM.

Great. That would be the best way so they realize the song needs to be out of the album inmediately, and that this inmature songwriter doesn't deserve such an honour. Punto y final!

Surely if she gives a press conference for Les Plaines in the next days, the press will ask about this, and I hope she gives the answer we're all waiting for: "no more WAAF. It's over". Punto y final!

Did you notice that too? First I thought maybe it was me, interpreting on the defensive every new post he made in his facebook after the first one that started it all. But now its clear to me this guy is still throwing gibes under his comments. In a more relaxed tone now, but still, mocking at what happened :glare:

You're right, it will be brought in press conferences unless Rene can somehow keep certain questions from being asked. But I'm sure they will have a very politically correct statement -- even if their plan is to change the title or dump the song altogether. They'll find a way to dance around the issue in a polite way.

Yes, that's 99,99% sure I guess. It's not that I would like Céline to follow this guy's game, but many times I'd wish she had more character and respond to the critics with a more forceful reaction. More than a written comment on her official site which has not even been written by her :ermm:

I'm not talking about being disrespectful like this boy was, but come on, she can have her own voice with this issues after 30 years of career! So yes, in case someone asks I expect a polite reply, as always, but I hope she has some convincing words for Daniel.

to say : she does what she can......it is like for me, she does what she can with the talent she has , infering that it's not her fault but since she is not so talented ,i forgive her . I had not made a comment on his facebook, he would be too pleased.

We should ignore him from now on, let him die in irrelevance, while waiting for Celine to release her whale-size album! ;) ''Fish to fry'' my #ss. :wtf:

Couldn't agree more. B) We need to let him do his thing, he's not worth our attention.
