Gloria Estefans "heavens what I feel" was for Celine!
Posted
yeah my brother is a massive gloria fan and he didnt believe me when I first told him, but (dont quote me on this) but im 99.9999% certain it says the booklet that comes with the "gloria" cd (im sure its the booklet and not a magazine interview) that she thanks celine dion for turning it down, because originally it was for her, and if you go on youtube and listen to the song you can still hear celine at the start of it,gloria does her humming and then you hear celine hum, in the music video it shows it being gloria doing both bits, but it is still celines trademark hum!!! and they left that bit in as a nod to celine, when my brother listens toit now he cant believe he missed it because it is clearly celine!!! (i wonder how many you tube hits it will get now) lol but yeah celine is still at the beginning and it was definitly written for LTAL. if i can find an article ill post it.

My my god that defiantly is Celine's iconic hum no questions asked wow! I also used to think that was an amazing hum by Gloria but clearly I know why I thought it was great now! Lol

can you imagine that song and Is nothing sacred if they had been on LTAL. Rene said HWIF didnt fit the style of the album, but how can you say that with just a little bit of love and treat her like a lady on there. I think if celine had recorded the song it would have come out around the time that 1)she was most popular and 2)cher and madonna were having dance hits. Celine would have had a smash hit with it, because worldwide gloria isnt as famous as celine and still did well with it. I think whoever made the decision to scrap HWIF and INS need forcibly removing from celines team and possible torture lmao sorry rene :P

I think the problem with Heaven's What I Feel for Celine was also the lyrics -- it's about two people who were already in relationships when they fell in love -- and I guess were either breaking up or cheating on their current partner for this relationship ("I have someone else/And someone else is loving you")

I doubt that. Look at some of the other songs she has sung: "If There Was Any Other Way" "Think Twice" "Don't Let Me Be The Last to Know" "This Time" ect. I doubt she refused the song with lyrics based on a failing relationship.

yeah I agree, look at any singer, cher has sang songs written for men, and there is actually no difference between Gloria and Celine in that both have only been with one man (their manager) have kids with that one man, and like gloria says in one of her concerts singing is like acting, she has to imagine break up songs because its never happened to her. like someone said look at this time, if celine turned down HWIF because she has never been with anyone else then surely she would turn down this time because shes not an abused woman, or if there was any other way because she hasnt cheated, i love you goodbye, and probably 3/4 of her discography. in fact if she only sangs songs about rene then heaven forbid at 17 would have to be completely rewritten and would probably get banned lmao j/k i know she was 19 :) and the reason would have to be changed to something like

"I made a deal with david forser for an empty IOU

Been to vegas and back but an angel was looking through,

It was you, yeah you.

"you are the reason I'm in vegas everyday,

cant sleep in the night"

youve gambled our savings, oh yeah

in the middle of the night, I'm going downstairs to record an album,

cause I adore you."

yeah and thats what the writers thought, from that article you can get a sense of what the writers were thinking, and I know its not fake because Ive seen meatloaf in an interview mention when he did his version of its all coming back to me (which i didnt like lol) that Jim wasnt working with celine anymore because of that very reason, and that is why he let meatloaf sing the song too, to sort of prove a point, And as much as I love celine you cant blame him, Celine had one of her biggest hits with his song, they invite him back for the follow up album, celine sings it, then Rene says "Erm Jim we want you to sign over your royalties to us" and he very politely tells them where to go. hence one of what would have been the albums strongest tracks is scrapped!! logically you cant say that it didnt make it because it wasnt upto the rest of the album, there are at least 4 or 5 songs that it could have replaced. I mean who thought I know we will scrap is nothing sacred and have treat her like a lady???? and when you find out heavens what I feel could have been a celine song, and there youll be by faith hill could have been a celine song but the writers turned down Rene's demands it makes me slightly frustrated, can you lets talk about love if instead of trat her like a lady the album opened with Is nothing sacred (like its all coming back to me) went into immortality and then the reason, then a few of the ballads and heavens what I feel, that would have been an amazing album, much more like FIY. but instead of the 30 tracks submitted they chose singers who were just happy to sell their songs, in other words they were starting out, and having celine sing your song was good publicity, scrap the dianne warren and jim steinman and david foster songs, "we dont need them" and have songs by unknowns. then it gets to 2013 and the people like steinman wouldnt go back to celine for love or money, they dont forget!!!!

ps is it a coincidence that Is nothing sacred got leaked in high quality, this is just a guess but phil spectors songs never got leaked, we all want them to, but his opinion is they are the best songs celine has ever done, Renes opinion is they are the best, but rene never wanted to give in to spectors demands, and they have never been heard. On the flip side Steinman wanted the song released he just didnt want to have Rene making money off his song, so the album is released, I honestly think Steinman leaked it himself to prove a point that his song would become a fan classic, and prove just how much money has gotten in the way of creativity!!! there has to be a reason it was leaked and the fact that THAT song was cut when others made the cut does indeed prove its about the money

I Know this is beside the point... but david foster had said in an interview that There Youll Be from Peael Harbor was offered to Celine but she refused because at the timw she was teying to have a baby... not necessarily because of all the fuss about copyright..

I think it is like we have been discussing, rene wants too big a cut of the writers money, she isnt as huge as she used to be, so the writers are going to where they will make more money. The songs people are writing for todays audience are a bit different to what they expect celine to release, maybe with her new album they will see she can be on top again and start sending her demos to record. She has got songs of neyo now so maybe people will start seeing that she is cool to write for again. and give some control back to the writers!!

Of course Celine doesn't only sing songs that reflect her own life -- but it's also about the message the song sends. Heaven's What I Feel is not only about a failing relationship -- it's that the lyrics could easily be interpreted to be about a relationship that requires cheating by both people (either that or a breakup; it's sort of unclear, but it sounds like both of them are currently in a relationship, and don't really care.)

The song treats this very lightly -- i.e. "Yeah, I'm with someone; someone else loves you, but who cares - we're not going to think about them at all, because being with you feels like heaven right now."

This message -- that cheating's ok if it feels great -- would not seem to be a Celine-ish message. (Maybe I'm reading too much into the song, but I think that's one very plausible interpretation).

The ONLY Celine song I can think of where the *singer* is the one cheating is "If There was any other Way" -- and that is more about the agony of the situation of being caught between two people than just blithely thinking cheating is fine.

Just my thoughts -- it would seem like a very unusual song for Celine because of those lyrics.

yeah but then the writers of the reason said its about sex, and sex acts and was written for aerosmith, call the man is supposedly about someone asking for help who is addicted to drugs. I read that it a music magazine years ago as saying it was an unlikely song choice for celine, however it sounds enough like a break up song that you cant tell. but part of being a singer is being an actress/actor. And I think heavens what I feel isnt as harsh as if there was any other way, in that song shes cheating but she goes back to him as soon as she is found out, it was just a fling. In heavens what I feel she basically says yeah its wrong, we shouldnt be doing it but ive fallen in love with you, and most of us have fallen for people we shouldnt do. perhaps someone as they first realise they are gay thing they are wrong but cant help it, or people who cheat, you can be married and find yourself attracted to someone else and not be able to do anything about it. where as if there was any other way in the end she goes back to someone because its almost whats expected of her, it shows someone cheating in a much harsher light. but I think as a singer you cant accept a song about a woman cheating, or a woman being put in hospital by her husband, or a song about a woman whos partner dies (with this tear) etc and then differentiate between if cheating is worse in one song than another and will paint the singer in a bad light, and besides heavens what i feel is a feel good disco song, its something you can dance to and isnt meant to be a moralistic play. I dont see why she couldnt have recorded it just because of the subject matter

yeah but then the writers of the reason said its about sex, and sex acts and was written for aerosmith,

Really, I didn't know that! Lol, now I'll have to listen to it more intensely..... "in the middle of the night", "I'm going down" actually have a double meaning?? ;) I wonder does she know?

We are really going wayyyy of topic here!

In everyday life we go off topic all the time, when we discuss things we tend to break off for a little while discuss something else then bring it back to the original topic, you tend to get better conversations that way, Its still sort of about breakaway in as much as its about the type of songs celine gets and if she looks into their meanings, I mean breakaway certainly has some intense lyrics, what did the person write it about, why did celine get it stuck in her head??? oh and as for the reason yeah I forgot where I saw an interview with celine discussing it, could be divas live backstage, i see so much celine she sort of rolls into one lol but she said she couldnt believe she got such a sexy song, in fact now i say it I think it was carole king who said it, when they offered it celine after aerosmith didnt want it they didnt think she would go for the sexy lyrics, but she jumped at it, I guess it goes back sort of to the topic of the tread in what types of songs offered celine.

http://blogcritics.org/books/article/book-review-a-natural-woman-a/ a review of carole kings biography, she says in there is was written for aerosmith hence the very erotic lines in the song lmao bet you wont think of that song the same way again sherri, its no longer a song you can put on when the mother in law is over for dinner, youll probably blush now lmao

I didn't know that Celine had multiple ear piercings! "Edgy" Celine! :giggle: (the .04 mark)

Indeed!! I did notice it too :D

She should do it more ear piercings :P

This song is really feeling like a grower. The more I hear it, the more I like it. I wonder if Celine will change the key though. The bones of the song are good, but I'm not nuts about the key or the production. Celine could take this song and, handling it right, turn it into something real haunting and amazing. This just makes me thirst for the English album more. Edited by Si J'etais Quelqu'un

We all know Celine will oversing and fart all the emotion out of this song. I love the original version so it's gonna be hard to top that.

If you really think celine over sings and "farts the emotion" out of her songs why listen, i wouldnt have time in my life to listen or post about someone I wasnt passionate about or didnt like. Had you even heard the original before it was announced celine was recording it? and how?

Mariah sent it to me and we jammed together on it while having a cigar. Also, I love Celine but lately she just shouts instead if showing us the raw emotions she once had.

That story about the royalties René required from every songrwiter is so interesting, it would be great to know the truth directly from him and Céline, but hey, these are precisely the kind of questions that no journalist will never ask them in an interview, because of course René will never speak about that! They aren't such an open book for certain aspects of her career, right? :innocent: :giggle:

"Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

Posted (edited)

I think by scrapping those songs from writers who didn't want to give Rene the rights to their songs, Rene also wanted to prove a point. He wanted to show Steinman, Warren etc. that Celine can also do without them and still be succesfull, because we are talking about Celine Dion here... No wonder they got upset... And the result is that in the last decade Celine wansn't as successfull as in the 90s. But on the other hand, her fans keep buying all her new albums so she makes even more money now since she certainly owns the rights to all the songs that she records nowadays, because they are taken from less known writers who are just happy to have Celine Dion singing their song and sell her all the rights.

IMO it might be a good idea if Rene and Phil Spector would forget about what was in the past, and Rene would give in and let Spector own the right to the "best songs ever sang by Celine" so that the would appear on Water and a flame and would push the album! Rene should forget about the money for a sec since they really have enough money and think about Celines career and bringing her back to the top of the charts!!!

I am sorry I just don't agree with you. I really don't think that it would have played a role in choosing whether or not to sing this song. Celine herself says when she sings certain songs its like acting. So just because this would be about something she may personally condone and obviously not do, wouldn't necessarily rule out this type of song. This is just my opinion though.

thats what I think, singing is acting in a way, and Celine is amazing at it, I love you goodbye is heart breaking, you can tell celine feels the lyrics yet she has never been in that position, so thats why when she gets a song like "my love" that speaks to her it can really affect her, ive always wondered who she is singing to with my love, is it the fans or is it rene, because she loves him with all of her heart but she wonders deep down if would he trust her every decision if he was the singer and she were the manager, would he have given up the dream of having kids for the career for so long if he had been the woman who wanted children more than anything because she felt she owed her career to her manager and husband? like saying ive given my whole life to you would you do it too? If she is thinking about Rene maybe it made her not question her feelings, but perhaps it made her think about little things that she mostly ignores, linda perry wrote it after seeing celine and her personal life after all. I dont think she would turn a song down because she disagreed with cheating etc but when she gets a song that is about her it is soooooo much better

I looooove Anastacia. I look at "Heavy Rotation" as kind of Ana's "One Heart"...it was just a fun album. Some of the songs really stood out to me though like "In Summer", "You'll Be Fine" (which I actually think next to "Overdue Goodbye and "Maybe Today" is one of the most beautiful she has ever recorded), "Never Gonna Love Again" was great. Overall it was just a fun album and she was trying something different. The covers album she recently put out I think was honestly just a concept project that was easy to put together to help tie the fans over until the real new album comes out. I don't necessarily think it was her best endeavor (although I think 'Best Of You' is pretty damned hot) but I don't think it's a bad album.
