Celinenvegas Posted September 28, 2012 at 07:17 PM Posted September 28, 2012 at 07:17 PM Jennifer Hudson is FAR from "untalented" I agree, I think she's great & love her voice. It's quite powerful. I also loved her version of "I Will Always Love You" at the Grammys. She LOVED Whitney and was so thrilled when Whitney presented her with her Grammy Award. If Celine is in good voice she can sing any of Whitney's songs but of course it'll be in a different style than Whitney's. She's gotta make it a bit of her own & not copy. Quote ~J O E Y~

sunnyceline Posted September 29, 2012 at 02:35 AM Posted September 29, 2012 at 02:35 AM (edited) LA TIMES ARTICLE posted 09/28/2012 L.A. Times article link Usher, Celine Dion to perform at Whitney Houston tribute concertBy August BrownSeptember 28, 2012, 11:36 a.m. The passing of Whitney Houston was a sad undertone to this year's Grammy Awards show. But several marquee artists -- including Celine Dion, Usher and Jennifer Hudson -- will pay tribute to the pop icon in a telecast special that airs Nov. 16 on CBS and tapes in a concert in Los Angeles. The telecast, "We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston," will be taped at the Nokia Theatre on Oct. 11. The event features sets by those artists performing from Houston's catalog, along with clips from her most beloved performances and several artist interviews. Tickets to the show went on sale Thursday. Ticket prices range from $25 to $50, not including service fees. Orchestra and VIP packages are available for $125 and above. The concert coincides with the release of Houston's new posthumous greatest hits album, "I Will Always Love You -- The Best of Whitney Houston," which comes out Nov. 13. Houston died on the eve of the Grammy Awards in February from an accidental drowning, complicated by heart disease and cocaine use, in her Beverly Hills Hotel room in February. chocolatechip15 Posted September 29, 2012 at 03:20 AM Posted September 29, 2012 at 03:20 AM The article said they're going to show footage of Whitney's most memorable performances -- my hope is that they show *Whitney* singing IWALY -- and have the others sing other songs. There are so many fabulous Whitney songs, but my vote for Celine is still One Moment in Time. Quote

Macaronie Posted September 29, 2012 at 08:16 AM Posted September 29, 2012 at 08:16 AM Celine doing a Weedney uptempo will be cheese to the max so please don't. I agree on I Have Nothing. IWALY will be bleh with that slow pace Celine has in her voice nowadays. Quote

browseceline Posted September 29, 2012 at 10:25 AM Posted September 29, 2012 at 10:25 AM this is doing justice in my opinion; A couple of weeks ago I went to the concert of dutch singer Glennis Grace, and among other songs, she did two Whitney songs, including I will always love you: Quote <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
celinelover50 Posted September 29, 2012 at 10:27 AM Posted September 29, 2012 at 10:27 AM Jennifer Hudson untalented!!!!!!!!Have you been hiding under a stone for the past billion years?Seriously that girl excretes talent as the norm! This has to be an opinion made on only her first album radio releases. Id love a duet with Hudson and Celine - Same Script, Different Cast Quote http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s264/celinelover50/celine/TEOL_Sig.jpg

But Celine is capable of singing IWALYThe big note is not live. Plus the rest is really nasal. If she sings IWALY like that, it truly won't be good. The beginning of IWALY is all about control, pureness.I really don't think it's a good idea for Celine to sing Whitney's songs. At one time she could : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nklB693QI8oNow it'll just expose her weaknesses, I think. Edited September 29, 2012 at 10:30 AM by justinecoria Quote

For some reason I think it would fall flat and be a big no no if anyone did this song that night. with that slow pace Celine has in her voice nowadays.Slow??? I think she's way too fast. Take a look at NMQP, she spits the words out as if they were hot potatoes. That's my only complaint about her doing that song, she does it way too fast, not letting it linger, not allowing the notes to be as long as they should be, it's as if she can't get it over with fast enough. So slow pace is something I'd highly welcome from her nowadays. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
Macaronie Posted September 29, 2012 at 12:59 PM Posted September 29, 2012 at 12:59 PM Yeah but compare that to her PQTME, she slows the whole song down. Quote
manu23 Posted September 29, 2012 at 03:40 PM Posted September 29, 2012 at 03:40 PM Now it'll just expose her weaknesses, I think. Her weaknesses? Celine is not 20 anymore, but I'm sure Celine can sing IWALY better than Whitney if she were still alive. ABM is harder than IWALY too. Quote

I pretty much agree. Her voice does NOTHING for me. Literally nothing. She has like 2 settings to her voice, loud and louder. Her voice is much to boisterous to pull off a song like IWALY, there's no tenderness or anything when she sings, it's just deep and loud. Quote

LukeD Posted September 30, 2012 at 02:20 AM Posted September 30, 2012 at 02:20 AM (edited) You guys do realize Celine lips the big note during her Vegas show right? The ending runs she does for ABM are live and great but also inconsistent. IWALY doesn't have to be a hard song, Dolly Parton wrote it as a very straightforward, simple and heartfelt ballad. But the way Whitney sang it is extremely difficult to replicate. Most cover versions have come up extremely short. The song has a wide range of dynamics, the beginning is very soft and controlled while the end is a full throttle endless barrage of power notes, including far more powerful head notes than Celine has ever been able to produce. You almost can't take a breath for close to a minute during the climax. And all of their versions paled compared to the original. The question is whether Celine would do a note for note copy like usual or add her own twist. PREACH! IWALY is much harder than ABM. The only demand of ABM is the usually strained long belt. Edited September 30, 2012 at 02:22 AM by LukeD Quote

browseceline Posted September 30, 2012 at 08:07 AM Posted September 30, 2012 at 08:07 AM The more I think about it.. Can it be that, although we are all thinking different, that Celine Usher, Jennifer are not to sing a song alone, but one song with each other, like in the Michael Jackson tribute? I think that will be the case. Only one song. J-Man Posted September 30, 2012 at 10:02 AM Posted September 30, 2012 at 10:02 AM The more I think about it.. Can it be that, although we are all thinking different, that Celine Usher, Jennifer are not to sing a song alone, but one song with each other, like in the Michael Jackson tribute? I think that will be the case. Only one song. The Grammy tribute to Michael Jackson was just part of the main Grammy show and was only one song, this is an hour long special. They will hardly have an invited audience coming to a taping and only have a group of celebrities coming out to perform a medley or something. No, Celine will definitely be performing at least one song of Whitney's, she will also quite probably be involved in some big group performance at the end of the show, which is also the norm for this kind of night. That will probably be "IWALY" As its going to be a Whitney classic she sings, then it's almost certainly going to be a brilliant song no matter what one she does. Houston had some great hits. I would expect that Celine herself would prefer to do one of the earlier songs that she grew up on, so I think another Celine performance of "TGLOA" is a definite contender. As long as she doesn't do something off the wall like "My name is not Susan" I will be more than happy.I hope this gets international airings on the same week it's televised in the states.
