Whitney is not a model to look up to or to follow the foot steps!! what the hell? I mean vocally maybe... but even then, she didn't respect her voice that much...

 

I think it would be a big mistake for any artist to sing that song... its not really appropriate.

 

Whitney sang that song thinking about God, about her dear fans about her loving family. Why? because she was weak and needed help and strength... Celine doesn't need this at all... and she certainly doesn't need to ask Whitney for strength and help.

But wasn't Whitney a role model for Céline way back? Or have I gotten that all wrong?

 

Guys wait a second, that "press release" (or however it's called) never mentioned that Celine, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and the rest of artists will be singing Whitney's song, or did it say so?

If it's gonna be a one-hour-special, and they're planning to show Whitney's greatest live performances along with some never-seen-before footage, I hope there's still time for the guest performers to sing, and I really hope they don't just talk about how Whitney Houston inspired them...

I surely hope this is not the case. But you're right, it could very well be that not all of the stars mentioned will sing.

 

It would also be amazing if Celine did I Will Always Love You as a duet with the other artists that are going to be in the tribute.

I never really thought about that. But now that you mention it I think you're right. That would be a great finale. But it has to be done right, sung very subtle, not too strong and avoid a scream fest.

I'd really love to hear Céline sing Run To You. Also from The Bodyguard soundtrack, but lesser known I guess. Still one of my very favourite Whitney songs, also with some good big notes

Of course they are singing Whitney songs, It's the special is entitled "We Will Alwalys Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston" A Whitney song, a hit song of theirs and more than likely a group song all together

Indeed! ''All By Myself'' is a lot harder than IWALY.

Leona Lewis doesn't really have a deeper voice than Celine. Her voice can have a deeper sound depending of the kind of songs she sings but the same thing goes for Celine's voice... like in ''New Dawn'' when she sings in a deep tone.

IWALY doesn't have to be a hard song, Dolly Parton wrote it as a very straightforward, simple and heartfelt ballad. But the way Whitney sang it is extremely difficult to replicate. Most cover versions have come up extremely short. The song has a wide range of dynamics, the beginning is very soft and controlled while the end is a full throttle endless barrage of power notes, including far more powerful head notes than Celine has ever been able to produce. You almost can't take a breath for close to a minute during the climax.

Whether she sings IWALY or another song like ''I Have Nothing'' or ''I Look To You'', it will draw a lot of comparisons and she will be criticized by her detractors for sure. It will likely happen no matter if she put her own personal twist or not.

 

But in the end who cares ?

 

If you guys don't want her to get criticized, she might as well simply cancel her appearance.

Now you stole my idea! This is one of my favourite songs because I can relate to the lyrics so much (especially this part: 'a girl who's scared sometimes, who isn't always strong, can't you see the hurt in me, I feel so all alone')...

Anyway, I think that 'You Give Good Love' is also a proper choice. When I first heard it, I actually thought how much its sound reminds me of Celine in the Incognito era.
