"Unfinished Songs" - Theme song from the movie "Song for Marion"

The problem is that we are listening to this song - for the very first time- with pretty bad sound quality.

If Sony was smart (I know... ) they would have at least released a snippet in HQ for us to get a better impression.

Now everyone who is interested in Céline will hear this bad quality version and just decide it's not that great.

Hopefully they will improve the production of that song and let that out ASAP!!

I think you are too young to understand that Céline also topped the F***ing WORLD as you say. And for over 15 years!!!

Let's see if Adele will also top the world in 15 years from now. Every singer has his/her moment of glory and the most difficult after that is to maintain some kind of visibility... Some just totally disappear but Céline is still there - not a major force in the music world - but the industry knows she's still there with a great voice, just like Barbra Streisand.

So don't expect #1 singles and all that. If that happens, even better. But just be happy that we get something from Céline every 5 years or so (or 6 or 7 years... depending if Sony moves its big behind )

Yes I heard it too! Esspecially the start is almost exactly how That's the way it is starts! The drums sound the same, even the melody is quite the same. But I like this song very much! Never heard of it, but I def like it!

I was looking forward to this collaboration a lot but after listening to it (I admit it's LQ but still), I'm absolutely disappointed. This sounds very dated but I kind of expected it. But what I'm most disappointed with it is how she's pronouncing certain words. If only Kara or JJG would make her shut up, take note and sing properly because I think the other don't dare to tell Céline - the Queen to do it correctly, which is absolutely ridiculous.

 

Let's see how it sounds in HQ but I think I can bet my @$$ that Sony is not gonna release it anytime soon until the US release of the movie.

Here’s my take. The song perfectly fits the movie, and vice versa. What I mean by that is the film’s producers clearly knew that the consumer demographic would be older, and those who were in charge of the song didn't want to alienate that relationship with something over the top.

 

And let’s be honest, the film takes place in a retirement home. Not exactly something for the younger demographic… That said the lyrics and melody were something of a surprise. Not as clichéd as I expected, but still with a 90s nostalgia aspect to it - which brings me to my last point.

 

Originally produced film songs are pretty much extinct, that is, when you compare them to their omnipotence in the 90s. The song’s team didn't want to reinvent the wheel when they envisioned it, because it would have been impossible. No one uses film songs anymore, and those who do recycle them from prior ones (James Horner and Avatar, anyone?).

 

My point is, I’m not surprised that the song is dated in its melody/lyrics, because it should be. Film songs went out of fashion a decade ago, and the only company that still regularly uses them is Disney (which Mariah was smart to know). We all just need to accept that, and enjoy the fact that Celine sang in an overall pretty good song that didn't deviate from the cultural constraints it was placed in.

What I think is that the song fits perfectly for the ending credits, which I think was the main purpose of the song. We see in the preview of the movie Arthur (or whatever his name is) goes through many ups and downs and wants to honor his wife. I don't think theres anything in the music industry that isn't dated though. Almost all songs uses pieces similar to those of other ones from a few years ago so even use the same ones that other artists are also using (Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" and Katy Perry's "CA Girls" used the same exact music). Its the same deal in the movie industry, no one has brand new ideas anymore, its always a spin off or a variation of something that has been already done (ie. "Avatar" is "Pochahontas"). So the argument that its dated is kinda stupid in my opinion because it is hard to find music, or any entertainment media, that is not similar to something else anymore.

The song reminds me more of I'm Alive than TTWIS in its simplistic melody. Always felt like IA was missing something and never really went anywhere. Not the best song especially when compared to the French stuff but that's always the case.

 

Unfortunately, when you don't write your own material you're at the mercy of whomever wants to write songs for you and I don't think there are many talented songwriters still out there who write for others. Diane Warren unfortunately was great in the 90's but hello, this song is really dated. Catchy Chorus though.

I know Celine topped the world for years!

But, just for that we have to resign oneself? I think not, Celine is not dead, her voice is in very top shape, she have the status as you said. I don't expect another #1, I just want a song that not sound like 12 years ago in the wrong way. Please don't compare Unfinished songs with That's the way it, because the second one sounds way better

Is a waste of talent, have a CELINE DION and give her a cheap sound for a new song after 6 years.

You misunderstood my example of Adele, I say that also with great ballads Celine could be in the spotlight.

I think songs like "Set fire to the rain" "Rolling in the deep" or "Skyfall" and that type of songs would be perfect in Celine's voice.

It's not necessary to change her style if they didn't want it.
