Diane Warren and Celine Dion Reteaming for 'Song for Marion'

The final strains of the Toronto Film Festival belong to Celine Dion and longtime collaborator Diane Warren.

Dion has recorded "Unfinished Songs" as the end-credits tune for "Song for Marion," which closes the fest Saturday night at the Roy Thomson theater. Written by Warren, who's been nominated six times for an Oscar but never won, "Unfinished Songs" is among more than a dozen collaborations with Dion, including "Because You Loved Me."

"We go way back and I think we're a good combination, particularly for this song," Warren told Variety. "She had done her show from 7:30 to 9:30 that night and then recorded between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. That's why Celine is Celine -- she really has an amazing work ethic."

As for Warren, she hopes that "Unfinished Songs" may lead to that elusive Oscar.

"I'm a six-time loser," Warren said, "so maybe this is my lucky seventh."

Just wanted to let you all know that I came across this today, regarding Celine and Diane Warren's collaboration on the song "Unfinished Songs"...

Dion, Warren Add Tune To 'Song': Pic Closes Toronto Fest Saturday

Warren said "Unfinished Songs" fits well with "Song for Marion," a music-based dramedy starring Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave and Gemma Arterton. Pic centers on a grumpy elderly man whose wife persuades him to join an unconventional local choir. The Weinstein Co. is handling domestic release.

Cutting Edge Group CEO Philip Moross, who is producing alongside Ken Marshall, brought together Dion and Warren, who saw the film in rough cut. It's the first feature production credit for Cutting Edge, which has provided music services for more than 200 films.

"As a connoisseur of great movie songwriters, my dream has always been to work with Diane Warren," Moross said. "What Diane was able to do with her work on 'Song for Marion' was to find the heart of the movie and put that heart into a beautiful chorus for Celine. It was amazing to witness."

Four-year-old CEG has gained notice by ponying up the money for scoring, clearances and music supervision in a film; it then recoups from such sources as soundtrack and sheet-music sales, licensing and royalties from international ticket sales and TV deals. Earlier this year, it closed a multi-picture slate deal with Endgame Entertainment and entered into an agreement last month with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures.

CEG has invested in over 200 films, most notably "The King's Speech," in exchange for music publishing rights. CEG's films at TIFF include the opening night selection "Looper," "Song for Marion," "End of Watch," "Seven Psychopaths," "Imogene" and "Writers."

As for Warren, she hopes that "Unfinished Songs" may lead to that elusive Oscar.

"I'm a six-time loser," Warren said, "so maybe this is my lucky seventh."

Since we're talking a lot about Diane, could someone share again what Celine told about her years ago in one of her books? I remember that Celine didn't want to work with her again, but I can't remember why.

I'm actually waiting for Unfinished Songs more than Water and a Flame.

Most of you have probably seen the trailer for A Song for Marion, and it seems like a wonderful movie. I've worked as a nurse in a home for the elderly and yes, the real life is different and the image we get from the trailer is very much idealized, but in each day there are those moments of real emotional connection among the people who live there, and between nurses and residents. Those moments are what make the job worth it all.

I wait for US more than WAAF too, since it's a completly unknown material and we're gonna have Celine with Diane since IWYTNM. I'm very curious to see how it's gonna be after 13 years aoart.

I don't agree she looks old in that Oscars night. To me, the way she dressed and had her hair done that night is the image of pure elegance and class. Nothing to do with being young or old!

I agree she has a better taste in clothes these days than in the mid-90s, but that does not mean she doesn't make mistakes today... actually I think she uses too many "nightgown" and long dresses today (like the Vegas show models), which make her look older.

Also, don't tell me this was better and more fresh than the great 1998 Oscars appearance

What she's wearing isn't that great, but she looks miles better in that 2011 Vegas conference than she did at the 1998 Oscars.

Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

Agree, I mean, I know the whole point of the oscars dress was to exhibit the 4 mill necklace but it took too much from Celine looks .... gotta say I love the new Celine, away from the 90's jumpsuits and the wing sleeves from the ANDHC era .... even the stuffed animals pants are way better than those :innocent:

Actually I like what she was wearing at this press conference! Not my favorite but far from bad. Plus she has a nice and modern hairstyle

http://img1.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/i/z/izpd5dx1eqj61xqd.jpg

...and overall her look looks better and less ''conservative/matriarchal'' than what what she was wearing at the Oscar in 1998 or even at the Titanic Premier in 1997.

^^ Agree on that! ^_^

Though to me, the 1998 Oscars hairdo, elegance and class is still unsurpassable :P (without looking old at all of course)

and I think the hairdo on the pic with Rene is her real hair, whereas the Vegas one is a wig. Not sure about the Oscar's one, if that is a wig too though..

There is NO WAY she was wearing a wig or extensions at the '98 Oscars.

You're right. Hair real hair is very, very thin just like in the pic with Rene. At Vegas and at the Oscar, she was wearing a wig.

She was not wearing a wig at the Oscar. She had mentioned that it took a really long time to get her done for that night...

I don't think I've ever seen the same general argument being regurgitated ad nauseum by a poster as many times as I have in this thread. Apparently some people just love to hear themselves speak (or rather in this case, read their own writing). Edited by Your_Su_Phu

Sorry, but for me she was. Like I said, her hair is too thing and that ponytail is too full for her hair at that time. For me she's wearing a wig just like she did back at the final act from AND.
