Yes, Phil Spector - once a genius producer who turned insane and is currently in jail for murder. Apparently the recording sessions were extremely uncomfortable and he didn't even want Rene in the room. Céline left the studio in the middle of the session because it was so bizarre.

Wow I didn't know he made Rene leave the room. How awkward..who knows what was going through his mind.

A: It’s a very delicate question to answer because I’ll hurt some people and please others but you have to have an opinion. For me, it’s not about the veil—it’s beyond that. I’m not against what people wear but if you go to the hospital, and you are in Quebec and we have embraced you and opened our country for you to live in a better world, you have to adapt to our rules. If the doctor is a boy or a girl, you’re gonna see the doctor that [is] sent to [treat] you. You can’t just say, “My religion doesn’t permit me to see a woman or a male doctor.” That’s the problem for me. If I’m going to see a doctor and he is gay, I’m not going to have a problem with that. It should not be an issue.

Q: Yet you’ve stood up for women’s causes throughout the years.

A: Of course! It’s just that these women who practise the things they believe in have to adapt to our country. They have to not change our laws. Because you have a lot of Anglican or veiled women in a school—you can’t just take off the [Catholic] cross from the walls, or take down Christmas trees. If I go live in their country and have to be veiled, I will.

A: It’s true. He does have the songs. He bought them. He owns them. I would prefer to [re-sing] them the way they should be sung because they were [recorded] in a very difficult environment. I don’t think the recordings as they are right now do justice to the songs, my voice, his work or the musicians who were there the night we recorded them. It was a hard session. I can’t believe you brought that up. I feel like I’m 105 years old because it feels so long ago.

Celine's opinion on Social issues like this totolly blow me away, like she did in the past few decades's sing career. I am fully agree with her, she is wise and brave on this issue, and that's the problem not only Quebec has but also for most of the Western world. After reading the last question&answer there, I adore Celine even more.

Ouch. Actually, I've been pretty active in Celine's online community since the big bang (back in the days of celine-dion.net and celineonline.com). My issue is that whoever runs the RH seem to be a bit controlling of the info they receive. I follow them on twitter and have seen their site and they always seem to have "exclusive" info that they sometimes share and sometimes just say they have.

 

Not trying to start a war here, just saying that clearly they have more info (in this case, they have a copy of the album) and they are withholding. If they are supposed to be a "fan community," shouldn't they share whatever info/insider knowledge they have with EVERYONE?

i think they have the right to decide whether to share or not. if they do, we'll be thankful, if they don't, we cant complain. we dont pay them to collect these info for us, right? of course i'd wnat them to share all they've got so far, but i wont say its their responsibility to do so. and i know the album has already leak, because someone sent me one full track of the album, but in very low quality and is breaking off in some parts of the song. so im 100% sure its fully leaked to a certain group of the people(red heads vip or sth like that), and the person who leaks it is doing everything he could to the minimize the damage. god i feel like im talking about some national secrects here.

Totally agree!!! I think every western country should have strict laws for people who come from elsewhere to accept all the rules without complaining about anything and to learn the language that is being spoken! You're going in another country because you don't like the life in yours - what's the sense to take your laws with you when it's them that you're escaping? Logic.

 

I also love the article about "Always Be Your Girl" though the title is a bit off the context, imo.

She's explicitly unsatisfied with the Spector recordings. Perhaps we should not expect too much of it (though I'm more curious than ever).

 

I'm not really sure about the Callas movie, since she might turn out to be too old if she'd wait too long.
