Céline to perform at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival

It would be quite weird if her participation in the festival lasted less than an hour, 'cause she is like the main star in this year's edition of the festival. They've been trying to have her performing there for the last 2 years, so I think she'll perform for maybe 1 hour and half, or an hour and 40 minutes.

 

I have no idea how long the headline acts in Jamaica have been on in the past, but at big UK festivals such as Glastonbury it is usually at least 45 minutes - 1 hour. Beyonce's set at Glastonbury in 2011 was 90 minutes! If Celine's set is this long I hope they don't just do the usual Vegas show with the 2 extra songs. They need to make it different, I don't want all those covers, those songs are not what makes her famous in Jamaica. I'd love to see TPOL and IACBTMN performed as separate tracks.

 

Judging by her recent use of Vegas playbacks in private events, I'd say it's quite likely the same will be done here, especially if she's on for a long time, as obviously all the hits will be performed. If it's a short set then they could easily avoid IACBTMN & TPOL and do MHWGO live. It will be very interesting to see what happens. Personally, if it's aired on TV, then I don't want the playbacks, because it would jeopardise a future Vegas DVD (I don't want it dubbed like TCWT!). Before 2007, playbacks were very rarely featured on TV (some examples are: 1998/99 CBS specials, and TPOL/IDAN on Oprah in Vegas 2003). This was great as it helped prevent people realising, leaving the only evidence in her live DVDs. But in 2007, this all changed when they carelessly used the audio from the AND DVD (even songs originally sung live!) in 2 big specials in the UK and US - airing just after the release of the DVD itself! This completely ruined everything, and from this point right through TCWT people were well aware of it. The less exposure these new 2011 playbacks get, the better it will be long term. It's fine for private events, but not for big televised events.

Guys have you realized that if she sings most of the songs from Vegas, this wont be avalible for us to watch later. Coz that would almost be like they released the Vegas show for us to enjoy at home and we know they wont do that until the end of the run.

I have LOW expectations, but in the back of my head I'm hoping for something special like her St-Justine benifit. Granted, none of those songs will be performed (because of the language) but it was nice hearing NEW songs and old classics that hadn't been preformed in years.

I too have very low expectations. And yes hehe I was also thinking about those French concerst she did a few years ago and my hope went up. You never know, until afterwards I guess.

Clarification on the Jazz and Blues Festival:

 

It originated by the local airline years ago and originally WAS a Jazz and Blues Festival. However over the years it has become more pop and mainstream and i'm pretty sure there will be nothing Jazz about Celine's performance. Nor does anyone who is familiar with the festival expect there to be. Truthfully its probably more a concert now to promote tourism during what is probably a slow tourist period. Maybe they should have changed the name.

I have always found THLAL funny in a funny way you know. Always cringed a litte uneasy hearing it. Always skipped it on the album (it truly kills the flow of that album). And it is probably the most akward of all the akward uptempo tracks she recorded before the millenium. Releasing it as a single and promoting it must have been the most daring thing she's ever done. And for that I respect the track. She got balls standing up for this track.

 

And therefor it's gonna be a cool thing to watch it in modern times so to speak. It's a funny song. But it's so wierd it almost gets cool.
