Rehearsal Shows

Hey everyone sorry it took long for me to get back on here! It did take me a while to get out of caesars and due to my excitement for the show tonight, I literally forgot to eat all day haha so I finally just got dinner and am able to sit down and write about everything! First of all it is absolutely a beautiful, stunning show. I can't say enough how much I loved it. It is so different from the past two shows she has done. This one is all about her and her talent with the orchestra only adding to the experience. I was so glad the technical difficulties got worked out cause they said they were "hopefully" going to get the show going at the beginning and I honestly thought that they may have to post pone the rehearsal! Thankfully it did all work out and Celine also apologized for the technical difficulties and thanked everyone for their patience.

The one downside to the whole night was how quiet/dead the crowd was. She came out opening with Open Arms and there's a break in the music at the beginning where there should be applause and she's standing there smiling and you could have heard a pin drop. I was sitting there like an idiot clapping and screaming away and just wanted to slap the majority of the audience and tell them to show at least some form of excitement that Celine Dion is right in front of them! There were a lot of business people there along with their families, so the audience was definitely not made up of her big fans, there was only a select few of us who would be standing up and cheering. I really do wish that more people like everyone on this board would be able to attend shows like this because we find it so amazing and truly appreciate it. It just makes me that much more excited to attend opening night though cause there's just going to be a different energy in the room that will really be something to remember.

I am going to type up the set list really quick along with a description of what she was wearing (she looked absolutely stunning!) and any other little staging parts and details I remember. I'll try to have it up tonight but it's almost one in the morning in Vegas and I have a midterm tomorrow morning so I may just post the minimum right now and go into more detail in the morning. I just didn't want anyone to think I had forgotten about this topic for the night!

It's people like you that make this all worthwhile..... Thanks for your true dedication!! ;o)

hahahaha I can see one person (you) standing and jumping and screaming "WOOOOOOOOOOOO CELINEEEEE" and everyone just staring at you. :lmao: yes, the atmosphere will overwhelm her next Tuesday! Thank you for your review!!!! Hope you had a great time! Edited by ladylindsey

Thanks for your post!

I keep checking in to see if there have been any updates (as many of us have) -- and we all appreciate it! :bye1:

I agree that at least one of the previews should be full of Celine's biggest fans - so she can feel the support. I would have been jumping and screaming right along with you tonight! But I think it's also good for the director of the show to see the response of the general public.

Anyway - thanks again. I look forward to hearing more!!

Thanks Spellbound!! :D I'm sooooo glad that you got to attend the rehearsal!!

YOU GO GIRL for rocking it out & cheering for Celine when everyone was dead in reaction. Boo to them!!

I sent you a PM about tickets for Thursday :P

Oh God, this sounds sooo awkward and sad for Celine. :o

Was it noticible for her you think that no one was cheering for her?

I hope it (the audience) wasn't as bad as you make it sounds like.

The whole night you said??? Did she ever get a standing ovation?

Are those videoscreens on the sides?? They aren't using the videos and special effects at these rehearsals right?

Posted

Thanks for the info...

I can't believe though out of all the people present that not 1 person tweeted about the show like Sunday night?!?

Dying to know the setlist...

Posted

To all of you tha complained about the set list:

I think it's better to hear some new songs from her voice than hearing her songs again and again. The set list for me couldn't get any better! :whee: She will sing some of her own hits that she loves and some other songs from other singers that she adores. Also she said on Larry King "It's going to be like the old days". And it's true. There are no songs from 2000-2007. It's a new try and Celine loves to try new things! :innocent:

When is the next rehearsal tomorrow?

And do any forum fans have tickets?

Thursday- and I know of at least 1 who has tickets that night, so hopefully some updates then too!

I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I'm really excited for this show more than I was for AND. The songs IMO 'Open Arms' especially, is what's driving me nuts here. Always loved that song and wanting to hear Celine's rendition is just :w00t:

Spellbound as you're still on the topic, could you please quickly post if there was any new songs performed last night that were not performed on Sundays show... :)

Well there was definitely some cheering, but significantly less than all the other shows of hers I have seen, it was just strange. It was not her, she was completely on her game. I honestly think it was the crowd and the fact that not many fans were able to get ahold of tickets so it was just people who probably wouldn't normally buy tickets to her show but got them through their work/connections for free. I think she did notice it too. You know how people normally sing along at the end of BYLM, well this time nobody did (granted she didn't point the mic at us but still) and she said at the end of the song "you were supposed to sing along!". She was joking but yet it's true! And the only standing ovation from the entire crowd was when she finished her upbeat medley at the end before her encore and after MHWGO. I stood up a couple of times when I thought it was needed (like at the beginning) and got a few death glares. It was very frustrating.

Are those videoscreens on the sides?? They aren't using the videos and special effects at these rehearsals right?

There are video screens on the side of the stage that they are using during rehearsal. They're basically just an extension of what's being displayed on the big screen. I think it adds a lot!

So I have typed up my full review, there are a ton of spoilers! So you've been warned. It is also very long, but I couldn't control myself. The setlist was the same as Sunday night so I basically have a little description for each song, from staging to outfits to any little funny thing she said or did in rehearsal. I'm sure details will keep coming back to me and I'll come and post them but enjoy! It truly is a magical show and I can't wait for everyone to see it!

First of all, the entire show was live and I honestly was even more wowed by her voice than I ever have been. Her voice is in top condition and I seriously can't get over how beyond amazing she sounded the entire night.

So with that, here it is:

Introduction by Director, Ken Ehrlich.

Screen lowers in front of curtain and begins to show footage of the last show of AND, parts of the Taking Chances World Tour then part of the press conference she had recently in Vegas. It then reads something about now tonight in Vegas and the crowd starts cheering.

Songs:

Open Arms by Journey: The curtain opens just barely and she appears (time for everyone to freak out!). After she sings the first few lines the curtain opens completely and revels the orchestra. There is another white curtain behind the red curtain that falls from the top and is pulled off stage very quickly and dramatically (if that makes sense), creating a great effect. She is wearing a long gorgeous sparkly silver dress that is strapless and very form fitting all the way down. Her voice sounds unbelievable with this song too!

Where Does My Heart Beat Now: There are four smaller video screens that come down around Celine that are all playing different videos of her early performances. By the end of the song, there are 11 of these video screens all with different live performances of WDMHBT.

Because You Love Me: A beautiful chandelier comes down right in the middle of the stage above Celine. By the end of the song, small stars also descend from the ceiling and light up the stage (its gorgeous!). As I already mentioned, the crowd was pretty dead, so at the end when everyone normally sings the last line or two, it was silent and Celine said “you were supposed to sing the last part!” it was very funny but yet true! Very annoying crowd tonight.

It’s All Coming Back to Me Now/Power of Love: Standard medley but was completely live and sounded just incredible! I had chills the entire time.

Jean-Sébastien Carré’s violin solo:(costume change) He comes down through the crowd between front orchestras 3 and 4. He gets the crowd clapping and it is a really up beat solo. I loved it!

You'll Have To Swing It (Mr. Paganini) by Ella Fitzgerald: She comes out once again with a very minimal band this time in a long grey dress with a long slit up the side of her leg. I think it was strapless and it was beautiful! I liked this song more than I thought, her scat singing was amazing!

Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel) by Billy Joel: Large video screen shows family footage that is priceless. It’s a great personal number for her.

The Reason: So glad she performs this song! She starts singing in the middle then finishes the song stage left before exiting the stage to change.

James Bond medley instrumental (costume change): I liked this whole set much better than I thought I would. She comes out in a long black, glittery dress with long sleeves and once again, a long slit up the side of the leg. She has on bold, strappy black heels, the look is incredibly sexy and she owns it.

Goldfinger

Diamonds Are Forever

Nobody Does It Better

Live and Let Die

Instrumental break for costume change.

At Seventeen by Janis Ian : She comes out wearing a long white one shoulder dress with (once again) a long slit on the side all the way up to nearly her hip. She sits down on the stairs with Andre and during her introduction for the song, jokes how she doesn’t know how she’s going to sit in this dress for it kept getting caught on her heels and the open part of the slit kept falling open while she tried to keep it closed while she was sitting. It was all very entertaining.

Beauty and the Beast (duet w / Barnev Valsaint): So beautiful, enough said.

Ne me quitte pas (If You Go Away): This will probably be one of my favorite numbers. She sings it with so much emotion. She began crying a couple of times in the middle of the song and resorted to speaking some of the lines. This was the only song where they showed a close up of her face on the big screen behind her for the entire song.

All By Myself: Her vocals were still incredible here. She had a hard time at the beginning for she was still recovering from the previous number and wiping away tears.

Michael Jackson instrumental (Smooth Criminal, Thriller, and Billie Jean): I loved this instrumental. It was only three cellists who sat outside the closed curtain stage right and performed this really upbeat medley.

Michael Jackson medley, Ben / Man In The Mirror / I Just Can't Stop Loving You: she comes out in white skinny jeans and a silver jacket that is Michael Jackson-esque, very edgy and looks great. She starts singing in front of the curtain then the curtain opens and everybody from the orchestra is sitting on a stool (without instruments) and snap along with the music.

Instrumental break for changing:

Medley of DOL / LCMM / RDMH: Comes out in short black dress, gets everybody up on their feet during LCMM.

Titanic theme instrumental (costume change)

MHWGO: Comes out in the blue/aqua dress that we saw in the photo. It was completely live and was probably my favorite performance of this song that I have seen of her live. I honestly couldn’t get over how incredible her voice sounded.

BTW: I also have about 20 min of audio recording of the Michael Jackson medley, DOL/LCMM/RDMH, and MHWGO. Its pretty good quality and I'd be happy to post if someone wants to tell me how haha

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears

Let it fill my soul and drown my fears

Let it shatter the walls for a new sun

A new day has come......

ohhh you can upload it to your computer perhaps and then upload onto mediafire or megaupload and link us the link? Someone may have an easier way! Thank you so much for your review! As a fan, you know what we want to hear! I am very excited about the show, kind of surprised they didn't change anything tonight or try anything else- they may still Thursday, but it looks like they like this set! Thank you so much for your review!!!! yeeee! Edited by ladylindsey

Maybe that's a sign. Maybe all those people expected her to open the concert with one of her songs and not a random cover :giggle:

Hopefully if they're clever they will draw some conclusions from dead reactions!

Ok 2 options for this:

-they can either think the audience didn't like the setlist at all

OR

-to the contrary they were so impressed that they remained static in freeze for the whole concert (and probably that's what René would think in this case  :P )

Thanks for the full review :)

Celine in skinny jeans, yum :P ha ha

Still not totally impressed by the setlist, I want more of her older songs, and I hope Barnev does pass on that we want TYLAM.

Happy though that it does seem more classy, and all about Celine, from what you described :)

Although is it just me or would you like to see her dance/or do atleast a bit of choreography at some stage during the show.

And Celine for Christ sake, I'm sick to the teeth saying this but get rid of LCMM please!!!!!!

Great review! I cant wait to hear your audio :D...

Also is there a big orchestra intro before open arms or does she simply come out of the curtain right after the video?

Posted (edited)
I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about how they are supposedly opening the show...and Open Arms...and then WDMHBN....:o I'll be a puddle on the floor for sure! They'll just have to mop me up after the show :P Edited by ladylindsey
