I think the arrangements are generally better, you can hear it in LCMM and RDMH. I don't think they sound massively better for being performed by such a huge orchestra, however. If I didn't know there was an orchestra behind her I don't think I could have pointed it out. It's probably a different case completely in person.

Maybe so. I just remember thinking to myself....Is this MHWGO orchestra going to sound like the Oscar's Orchestra (mediocre/sounds like the band) or the WCD orchestra (orgasmic).

 

I'm curious about TPOL and BYLM. Is TPOL sung in the same arrangement it has been since 2003 or has it been shortened more/less for the new medley? And how about BYLM, it is not in a medley so is it the full version??

OHHH MYYY DIONNN....AMAZING, celine never sound better to me, you can hear thats shes more in control of her voice. Man in the mirror is just wow, and DOL is ormasmic. MHWGO is 100% live! wow i was just dreaming of celine full voice and now its happening again!

Listening DOL live again is like a miracle after 14 years But I didn't feel the excitement of that song linked with LCMM... the transition from one to another doesn't fit.

And with RDMH, does she do the majorette move with the microphone stick again? I'd love they would keep that

Yeah it could have gone either way. The Oscars orchestra was dreadful, far too slow and boring. Celine's orchestra seem to be following the band, the pop sound is the same, there's just supposedly more going on. It does sound different but I don't think it sounds an extra 31 classical instruments playing with her kind of different. I think if Celine's band played the same arrangements on their own it wouldn't be a million miles away in terms of similarity. Hard to tell from the audio, even though it is surprisingly good quality for a bag recording!

 

And we only really know that MHGWO sounds different.....and the way she was throwing her head around during the big notes on the video reminded me quite a lot of the last few million performances.

these are totally 100% live!! her voice sounds incredible!! sounds a bit weak in DOL.. maybe it's just the recording.. but when she normally hits the high notes she chooses a lower octave.. maybe thats just because of dress rehearsal. OMG tho.. MHWGO and RDMH amazing!!

Yay I'm so glad you all like them!! I couldn't wait to post them cause I knew you would all be as excited as me about the songs and how they sound! I tried playing them for my roommate but she just thought I was crazy

I forgot to mention as well that you can tell her mic cuts out at the beginning of Man in the Mirror and my heart stopped! thankfully it was just a small piece of it and they adjusted the sound but there were definitely issues with the sound last night.

I'm not going to tomorrow's rehearsal unfortunately, wish I was! I could watch this show over and over. I think we have one forum member attending so maybe she'll be able to record it. I hope they don't change it though, cause it was fantastic!

Funny you mention her head movement because as I kept reading comments about how it was 100% live and such I saw the video on Twitter and she always throws her head to the side when she lips the big notes, so I was thinking the same thing you just said

She turns her head in a lot of live performances to. And who knows, if it is live it is probably natural for her to do that head movement after having done it for the last....723 + 132 = 855 performances....

Ok I have only read to page 19 but folks you write like mad!!!

 

First of all: Ne Me Quitte Pas!!! I have long wondered what it would sound like if Céline sang this amazingly passionate song. Oooo I hope it stays in the set list for enough time for it to make it onto an official audio release!!!!

 

and then At Seventeen How lovely wasn't that Grammy performance. I since wished for Céline to pick up more of these honest, down to earth easy yet beautiful songs. Great to see it making a reprise!

 

and The Reason Wonderful song. But to sing this on a regular basis? Vocally? Really? I am afraid they'll use playback on this one, and seeing there ways in the past, I wouldn't be too surprised if they've dusted of the one from the LTAL tour.

 

and last WDMHBN how weird this is. In a good way. Still weird. It's great to see her putting in songs that haven't been in her overplayed repertoire lately (and paying homage to her first English hit!) but this song has a stiff feeling about it, and if I am not mistaken I got the impression somewhere that Céline herself didn't like performing this song.

 

These three along with Open Arms makes the show well worth looking at.

 

 

 

The number of covers don't worry me much. What does worry me is the disrespect towards the diversity of her own discography (or the lack of it judged from her set lists). On the other hand I am grateful for the "new" songs we will hear her sing.

 

If I could cut some songs it would be these:

BATB - why include it when she doesn't need to have a movie themed show anymore? It's boring. Yes it's a landmark in her career, nevertheless the song is boring, the lyrics are pointless and seems randomly put together. Plus I have a hard time with her dueting with a backup singer. Try to do a solo version instead, if you must have the song in the set list. Watch what happens.

ABM - let it sleep. It's from the FIY era. You've proved you can do it during the TC tour. We know you can still do it. Don't let it strain you voice.

Lullaby - risk of becoming too boring since there are many others better slow songs in the set list.

 

 

 

And I would also like to add: kudos for taking in jazz songs that not many know of (the Ella track). Even I hadn't heard it before. I haven't fell in love with it after a few listenings today but still it is nice to see her including songs that aren't straight of banal and embarrassing, as it would had been if she took let's say Fly Me To The Moon and had sung it just the way Frank Sinatra did without remaking it leaving a very distinct individual mark on it.

 

And folks! This isn't the set list to complain about too few uptempo tracks. It's an orchestra behind her. Ballads are a given.

1. The Reason was 100% live during the LTAL tour. It was a mess on that tour. It was mediocre at best. She sang the song in a fashion that took away any "edgyness" the song had.

 

2. Really? If proving she could do it in 09 meant to lip it then okay..... but giving me a new studio track of it did not prove anything to me! But I do agree that it should be put to rest. Even if it is one of my favorites from her. This is a touring song, not a Vegas song.

I have an iphone4 which I just got recently and it gets way better sound recordings than my past phones, I'm going to have to start recording concerts I go to more often cause I've been listening to these recordings over and over now since I put them on my computer haha

If I'm remembering right, I think the length may have been pretty close if not the same. If anything, BYLM seemed longer to me but Im really not too sure, I didn't pay close enough attention to the arrangements of those songs unfortunately, I was just too in awe the entire time haha

Nice to hear her sing MJ type of songs - even though I am no big fan of MJ the sound suits her.

 

Declaration Of Love - Ok I was very skeptic about the need to dust of this relic. To me it had its fair share of the spot light. But the new key is surely interesting. Sounds very powerful and self confident. The higher key used to sound a bit irritating and whining.

 

LCMM - Overperformed. Still is. Cut it.

 

 

I don't know why this keeps popping up in my mind - I even don't like the song that much compared to other songs of hers - but: I have a strong feeling Lovin' Proof would do really well with an orchestra, and would supply a little up tempo to the ballad fest.

 

 

OMG I just found a recording of Dusty Springfield singing Lovin' Proof. Did she cover Céline?! The recording seems to be from her 1995 album A Very Fine Love. So if that's correct she did it after Céline. Did someone else do it before Céline? How cool is it that Dusty covered a Céline track!!!

I agree that DOL sounds better in the lower key. I also thought it was lower but wasn't sure if that was just her aged voice.

 

Does anyone think that the icing on the cake would be the adlibs in DOL!?!? I'm severely missing those!!

I love her voice, she sounds amazing. I love the Mj tribute. DOL/RDMH sound great. LCMM : i just can't stand this song anymore.

MHWGO live that is a good surprise on the other hand there's an obvious lack of work on the arrangements.

Why does she have a 31 musicians orchestra and not use it fully ???
