sfbaysinger Posted February 28, 2011 at 07:30 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 07:30 AM I really couldn't be happier. Everything went just the way it needed to. She gains "cool" points with younger audiences -- because they are going to talk highly of her on the Fashion Police tomorrow (they've already complimented her). And we KNOW Joan Rivers loves her. So that will be interesting to watch. She gains "classic" points because her performance was timeless, breathtaking, and vocally stunning. And she's made all of us fans happy too - because, even though we know she hated it, she did a couple of interview on the Red Carpet. And surprised us with honoring birthdays with the American Cancer Society commercial. We got a taste of what she's going to sound like with the orchestra in Vegas. And she just looked and sounded perfect. I have never expected Celine to be one of the best dressed and most talked about. I think that mentality stems from her not being known for her looks. Her name represents vocal talent, not beauty (and I don't mean that disrespectfully). But we are all Celine Dion fans because of her voice. But tonight she genuinely was one of the best dressed people on the red carpet! I really believe this is the best vocal performance I've heard from her in a long time. As people have mentioned, her voice was warm and that impeccable tone was there. That's what frustrates me from time to time with recent performances -- she doesn't belt and that incredible tone she's famous for has been lacking. But tonight it was back. Tonight I'm even more honored to be a Celine Dion fan. And it makes me feel good to have stood behind her for so long... Guess I couldn't sleep...I think that because I've been behind her for so long it makes it even more special/bittersweet. I am always honored to be a fan, but tonight she really seriously made the world shut up, stand up and take notice. Celine Dion is here to stay...again... Totally liked/agreed with your post, well said!!! Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle!
marc-02 Posted February 28, 2011 at 08:11 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 08:11 AM This explains why unlike in past Oscars, this year's in memoriam was quiet the whole time: "7:52 p.m.: There was no favouritism for any of the deceased during this year's in memoriam segment. Before Celine Dion takes the stage, the announcer suggests that everyone hold their applause until the end. They do." http://ca.news.yahoo.com/oscar-insider-the...155333-010.html Quote

ladylindsey Posted February 28, 2011 at 08:29 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 08:29 AM (edited) Well firstly the walmart comment is still a rumor I believe. But if she said it OMG that is hilarious to me if u know the backstory of why she absolutely hates that question of what she is wearing on the red carpet. It's not about what she's wearing, it's why she is there, etc and all they care about at the end of the day is who spent the most, who is wearing what blah blah and none of that really should be made as huge a deal as it is. I was a bit surprised she said it, if she did. Just bc she is always so precise and I mean even though she prob loathed it, she went out there and answered the annoying questions over and over. While that may seem like not a big deal, apparently it is to her. She always bites her tongue, does what she's supposed to, makes sacrifices, SMILES though her heart is breaking, so to hear of her saying that and letting a little real sarcastic Celine show thru, well god bless her! If that's the rudest thing we can think of that she's done, wow. It's just really not that bad compared to what she could of said. I love it. I wish she had showed up in Walmart. U show em Celine. She should have said Target in French pronunciation lol I mean at the end of the day, it's not the dress or designer, it's the woman wearing it that makes it look like a million bucks Edited February 28, 2011 at 08:40 AM by ladylindsey Quote

What are you wearing?" is a big deal, so come on, don't try to defend Celine in everything. If she's famous, if she goes to Oscars, that's what she has to do, even if it takes two hours to get inside. Isn't she supposed to be paid, or supposed to have recognition? So work for it! Claudette Posted February 28, 2011 at 09:08 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 09:08 AM (edited) I can't believe I missed all the fun. Why do I live in a darn different time zone? Thanks for all the pictures guys! I refrained from watching (or listening ) to the performance. I want to be blown away when I watch it later tonight during the broadcast here in SA. I highly doubt Celine was rude when she said she is wearing Walmart. Even though she was probably thinking to herself ''wtf is wrong with these people'' and thinking how stupid it is to answer the same question over and over, she obviously made it sound like a joke. I mean we are talking about Celine... Edit 1: Wowie some people are just... I dunno... Edit 2: I have to say I prefer the performance dress. She looked gorgeous on the red carpet, but I'm personally not a fan of the dress. I like the more flowing dresses. But how boring would the world be if we all have the same taste, right? I'm not talking about her job while singing (although I think she should put more effort on this field), I'm saying that everyone here wanted her to do the redcarpet. She's in the public eye, she wants promo for her new Vegas show, so if she wants people talking about her, she only has to do interviews, even if this means just answer "What are you wearing". That's enough for a press report "Celine Dion, starting in 15 days in her Vegas new show, wearing Armani" Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v622/pepillo90/swingit.jpg ► My Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arts_yard/

We have seen quite a number of pregnant stars over the years on the Oscar red carpet. This year too, Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump in a lovely floor-length purple gown by Rodarte (the same label that created a few of her ballet costumes in Black Swan). There were also stunning post-pregnancy pictures of Penelope Cruz, Amy Adams and Celine Dion. Most incredible was Penelope's pictures considering she just gave birth a month ago to her son Leo Encinas Cruz. The plunging L'wren Scott red dress showed off her stunning figure to perfection as the 36-year-old Spanish actress' husband Javier Bardem, nominated for the Best Actor award for his role in Biutiful, looked on with pride. Celine Dion too stunned us with with her svelte physique. The singer, who gave birth to twins Eddy and Nelson just four months ago, looked radiant in a Giorgio Armani Prive gown. Another yummy mummy was Amy Adams, who sparkled in a blue L'Wren Scott dress. She gave Quote

marc-02 Posted February 28, 2011 at 10:24 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 10:24 AM Ostrow: Slow-paced show did manage a few fine momentsBy Joanne OstrowDenver Post TV Critic A few notables: President Barack Obama showed up on video, plugging the song "As Time Goes By," Oprah Winfrey showed up in person. Kevin Spacey sang, and film dialogue was put to rap. The Celine Dion rendition of "Smile" for the "In Memoriam" portion was tasteful, Halle Berry's grateful tribute to the late Lena Horne was beautiful. http://www.denverpost.com/ostrow/ci_17498947?source=rss Quote
mirage Posted February 28, 2011 at 10:24 AM Posted February 28, 2011 at 10:24 AM There was no intro in the rehearsals either and they showed those people full screen. The camera panned to the band for the first 14 seconds before Celine comes in. I think I see Celine more during the rehearsals though. On the live show, there were actually claps after the performance. My friend said they use clap effects on the rehearsals and live events. They might have mixed that on a different sound channel so you don't hear it unless you 5.1 sound. Is there a rehearsal video????Where o where can we find that? Or do only a few people have that privilege? :-( Quote
