Why do people make fun of Celine fans?

Recommended Posts

For many reasons dear:

1. Celine was overplayed during the Titanic period and people who don't speak a ward of Englsih knew her so, saying that you are a Celine fan is not something unique for them.

2. Drama, Drama, Drama. Unfortunately, for non-fans, that is what Celine is. The embodiement of drama, although it's not true.

3. People don't care about voices anymore. All what they want is a hot singer. Celine is not hot in the standard of Beyonce or J. Lo.

4. The concept of "LOVE" isn't as popular as before, and since Love is all what Celine sings about, then... duh... u r drama again

These are the reasons why they laugh

Yep. :thumbsup2: People are very rude about things they do not take the time to understand. -_- (Example: How amazing Celine is and how lucky we are to have her in our lifetime.)

"...It's the circle of life. You gotta look forward. Two days during the year there's nothing you can do about: yesterday and tomorrow. Today is a great day." - Celine Dion, People.

We need to all stick together, we know that we are fans of celine no matter what :) (personally more than fans :-D ) We know people take the mickey out of us sometimes because we like her but at the end of the day they are missing out on one hell of an amazing woman.

This is Nancy's friend..

I'm not exactly a fan of Celine myself, even though she is a fantastic woman:')

My idol is Cheryl Cole. Sometimes Nancy gets taken the mickey out of, just because she likes Celine. Even though she's not my biggest fan, she is still very beautiful and seems like sucha loving person who really cares about her fans. That's just an image I get and I barely know anything about her- but I know a fair bit as Nancy is always going on about her!! Personally, I don't see why people can't understand how amazing this woman is?! Just because she isn't "cool" or "hip" doesn't mean she isn't fabulous- because she really is! :D

This is interesting. I love how you respect Céline and see the beauty in her. It's rare for a non Céline-fan to be so understanding which I think is a sign of that you are very open-minded. Don't change! :thumbsup2:

My high school was very music oriented and we were actually taught to respect any and all artists no matter who they were or what they sang/played. We were told that until we can even come close to achieving what they have achieved, then we could think about bashing at them. So everyone at my school, even though many weren't Celine fans, they respected her a lot and recognized her for her success.

There are a handful of people who have been taught/raised right to respect and be open and those are the type of people to surround yourself with. :)

Well, actually, all the people that surround me have a lot of respect for Celine because of her highly succesful career and her majestic voice; I've been a Celine Dion fan for about a year and half now, and I've never had any kind of problem with anyone because of that; in fact, they respect me more because of my great taste in music.

Some of you guys said that Celine is known by some people as the queen of drama, but isn't it better to love a queen drama (which isn't true because she has a lot of popular uptempo songs such as I drove all night or Taking chances) than to love pop sensations like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus... etc (I'm not saying that they don't have talent)

It was a funny afternoon for me, I just met with an old friend of mine from the college, she is a very close friend, we got (for me) a very strange relationship in the college years, it was like we were so friends but we never cross the line... even I was thinking of it... today, talking with her, I discover that almost all our common friends thinks I' am gay.. what for me it's curious and funny because isn't true... and she always has to defend me... the point is that she spent the first two years thinking that I was gay because I confessed I liked Celine music... why?? ok.. maybe it's weird but I show many more likes too: modern music and I showed interest in her likes... so I don't know.. it is funny... that the two years she was wondering if I was gay, I was wondering if we could have been mates... funny eh? why if I'am a boy, and I'am straight.. can't enjoy in public about Celine voice without opinions about my sexual orientation... you know something.. like Cee-Lo says... f*** YOU!

If i cant push away such a people, i simply say: ''Yes, ur right, Im that or this.'' It becomes better  .

I've never really gotten made fun of for liking celine. I mean, people say i'm too obsessed, but my true friends support it. It's funny because at my high school everyone thinks it's cool to roll their windows down and blast rap music from their cars when leaving school. But i usually blast Celine music. Sure i get odd looks from people, but in a world of rap/punk rock/pop lovers, I'm glad to be a Celiniac :P

It gets frustrating! They can't see us enjoy her gorgeous voice, or listen to it. They insult her and her music because they refer to electronic beeps and synthesizers as "music" when they can't see how ridiculous they sound saying 'Blame it on the Alcohol' is good music.

Well in the end we benefit from their troubles, sooner or later they'll realize who they're missing out on :thumbsup2:

And you're right, @Sonne, only true friends support our obsessions!

Some people have everything. And they have nothing. It's wonderful... - C e l i n e ♥

Well, I think is the same with every kind of music. Let me explain: My brother is fan of heavy metal, he and his friends think Celine Dion is a good singer but taht her music is meaningless and has no real feelings. My friends are always making fun of me (in a fun way of course, even thou I don't like it) cause I like Celine, Whitney, Mariah, etc. But, I also see some clasical music musicians or fans making fun of heavy metal fans and musicians. Or people that like heavy metal make fun of hip hop music, and so on. So, is actually a problem of accepting other people's choices and tastes. We know that Celine is one of the best singers ever, and they also know that. We know there are some really good songs that she sings, and that there are some others not so good also. What we need to think of, is that whatever thing we decide to listen to, or follow to, it has to be our decision and from our opinion. It doesn't matter if my friends think Celine is trashy. I know she's not.

Anyway, here we are together, helping each other, teaching each other about different things. Learning from each other. And is all thanks to Celine and her extraordinary voice.

And of course, thanks to our "bad taste" on music... :flowers:

You see i listen to celine who i love but i also listen to country music my other passion. But i mostly hang with people that inderstand that i have an huge obession i guess if you would call that for these two people.

other people dont understand why. It is because they both get me through the day and help me feel better. you know what im talking about. But yes i sometimes get made fun of because i like celine but i ignore that.

Okay, a lot to say.

1 We are not here to convert people to her. That's not our job. it's hers and she does it Really well. We can try to help them along, I have made bigger fans of people and I'm proud of it.

2 It is hard to fight for her, but look who we have to look up to. an extraordinary fight for an extraordinary woman. She doesn't care what others think, we can learn from her. as someone on page 1 of this topic says, listen to her. Hear her when you hear those insults. Listen between the lines of her voice, and there you will find/know/unlock all you need to know. "In your heart lies the key that unlocks your destiny." Such practical advice/wisdom she has for every day problems like this.

More power to the person blaring her at school, you rep well. We are her representatives, ambassadores.

Guys, it takes a very very special person to be a Celine fan. If it didn't, we'd all be.

But, we have a very special person to be a fan of.

Continuing...sorry...

At the end of the day, it is those people's loss that not only do they not know what they are missing, but that they are missing out on and not taking a chance to grown and evolve as a human. The way they act is not loving to themselves or others, and she is all about evloving us, making us in to the people we want to be.

As a kid, long before there was even her in my life, partly due to being blind which does make me louder as sound and hearing are my main, primary senses, my Mother always told me I was too loud, too much, too intese, "pipe down." while my love of her is usually the first thing people discover about me, too, I find it adds to the label they form about me. I am known as the blind girl who makes ceramics and likes Celine, but, there could be worse labels than that.

These things my Mother has drilled in to my head like tapes that go off every chance they get reeeeeeeeeally affected me the night of the TC concert in Sacramento, California. I sat there in shock, silent, stunned, frozen. I wonder if she discovered I could not see and instead of being insecure and questioning herself, understood why I could not sing to/with her and make eye contact.

Celine is the only voice that can drown out the irritating, erie, haunting and daunting voice of my mother. Mom's voice kept telling me that night that I was gonna kill others' experience of Celine. But had I been here, I would have known that we actually enhance each other's experience of her. We feed off each others' mutual love of her, feed it to her and then she gives it back to us. I am almost as inspired by our love of her as I am of her, although I think in general that her audiences could call out to her and be a bit more supportive of her during difficult/emotional moments!

I just know that, if there is a next time for me, I will be shouting my heart and soul out to her...right along with those of you who are there and in spirit with those who are not. You are helping me in this...we are worth it and she would say so, too, I think.

Because Celine is already old and not really making hits right now.

What's in right now are a different genre of music. No longer Pop and Celine is pop music.

I don't tell my friends i am a Celine fan especially that i'm a guy. It's just embarassing and people would make fun of you.

But for girls who are Celine fans, I don't know if you should really feel ashamed cos Celine is a good model and a great singer .

It does make me sad that men I know are assumed to be gay because they like her!

Yep, but is like that for a lot of things... If you use tight pants, or long hair, or colorful clothes, etc... You just don't have to pay attention to what they say, and keep being yourself. If they like it, great !! If they don't, they can always look to the other side...

I think EVERY die-hard fan of ANY artist has this problem. People like to be mean or tease other people... (thank god I've never come across someone mean... just friends that enjoy teasing me). They don't get the fact that someone can be so devoted to an artist. They think that being a fan is superficial, that the only thing inside your head is that person or thing you're a fan of and that the only thing that defines you is fangirling.

They don't realize that having a real idol, a real role-model, it's a very good thing when it comes to being successful in life (this has been proved). And they don't realize that having different interests and and knowing additional things to what everyone in general knows, makes you way more interesting and much more special.

Personally, I've never gotten mean comments about liking Celine. And if when I come across people that don't like her, they NEVER deny the fact that she's an amazing singer (so at least these people aren't all that stupid). Whenever I say she's my favorite singer, most people are very nicely surprised, they can't believe that a 22 year-old can be a fan of Celine Dion, but they always tell me that that's someting very special and that I'm different in a good way because of that. Of course, I do get teased a lot by my friends (not in a mean way at all though), they're always calling me Celine, or teasing me in other ways... and they don't only tease me about being a Celine fan, they tease me for being a Gaga fan, they tease me even more for loving Disney and saying Mickey is my boss (he was for the three months I worked at Disney World), and they really tease for liking Miley Cyrus (she's not my favorite, but I do like her...). They're never mean which is good, but it still really bothers me sometimes, although I know they're just doing it for fun.

Being a Celine fan is one of the greatest gifts ever. Just be proud that you're smart enough to appreciate real talent and to be a fan of someone as legendary as her.

Ok, being one of the few middle-aged fans on this forum (or so it seems) after 20+ years of being a Celine fan, I have been teased, laughed at, people have told me what they dislike about Celine, immitated her singing, said they hate her because she's so skinny, and my teen daughter plus her friends have found all sorts of nick-names for Ms. Dion and the list goes on. My opinion, WHO CARES, as long as you enjoy being a Celine fan and not everyone can be...... we are special :whistling:

I don't think it's hard to fight for her. I have made three of my friends celine fans. It didn't take much work, i played some of her upbeat songs and some vocal songs (especially The Reason) and they were sold. Heck, even my dad has been converted into a fan after watching some of her concert dvds (au coeur du stade<3). And you would be surprised how many 'closeted' celine fans there are...if i ever have to chance to go through people's ipods i usually see a few celine songs other than the inevitable MHWGO. ;)

You gys want to talk about nicknames? My booger-brained little bro called her Celine Pee-on, and Celine BeGone. I did not at all find that amusing.

I am sure we have plenty of closet fans, no wonder though that some of them are acared to come out of the closet.

i think we all reflect and mirror each other. There must be something in Celine that people either like and want but just can't admit, or something about themselves that they do not like but see/project in her. either way...

Today in art class, me and one other person who I have made a bigger fan of than he was before, we had her on and another student walked in. She hates Celine and, when upon consideration I turned her down, she actually said thank you, but then added that she does not like hearing the same song seven times in an hour, wich is almost impossible...but...I hate that we have to turn celine off because this lady does not like her. In this case, I wish majority rules because we have two of us, and one of her so ha ha ha !!

In my morning class, we have a blind guy who hates her! Why I am so surrounded by Celine-haters beats me. Maybe their hate of her is equal to my intense love of her, you know, that ying/yang opposite crap!

Anyway, I told this story in another topic in fun and games, but he came to me one day while I was putting the finishing touches on a bowl and said I should carve her initials in to it. I love her, okay, yes, but why am i being made fun of for that? Maybe it was a genuine suggestion, but it sure as heck did not feel like it.

Then, today, as I was leaving my morning class, a woman told me they're going to have an oldies dance later next month. I told her I'm not crazy about 50's and 60's music, but she said no, they're playing 80's and 90's and Celine will be played if I come. So, fellow fans, I am happy to announce and report that our Celine is now...old!!! but we already knew that.

I said that if they play her, I warned her, I Will start singing and she said they'd cut her off to hear me. Sweet and flattering, but one of my biggest absolute pet pieves is when she is interrupted in the middle of a song.

Singing her is one of the ways i show my love of her. If it were in a room with a lot of you guys on CDF, I could do it in a minute cuzz you would get it, but these guys don't like her. So I need to protect myself and will not expose my singing to her, of her, with her, to non-fans who need no more amo against me and her than they already have!!

I have been a fan since I was 8, I have been picked on for liking Celine. I was teased for liking Celine, in my senior year by grade eleven boys. there just jelous, that Celine has a voice from God, and works her a$$ off. Is also generous, with her time, and money. Plus she sings about love, and other issues in her songs. I think us Celine fans, are extremely lucky to have such a talented and a legendary voice and Singer. I think us Celine fans should stick together. Also, I think people make fun of us because all the singers they like are autotuned and have really dumb songs with no real meaning.
